Before You Throw Away Your Old Refrigerator or Freezer:
Takeoff the doors.
Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.
When Moving "{our Refrigerator: Your refrigerator is heavy. When moving the refrigerator
for cleaning or service, be sure to protect the floor. Always pull the refrigerator straight out when moving it. Do not wiggle or "walk" the refrigerator when trying to move it, as floor damage could occur.
If the ice storage bin is located on the door, remove the temporary shield from underneath the ice storage bin. See "Ice Maker and Storage Bin."
Remove packaging materials. Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids, or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue. These products can damage the surface of your refrigerator. For more information, see "Refrigerator Safety."

and covers:
Do not clean glass shelves or covers with warm water when they are cold. Shelves and covers may break if exposed to sudden temperature changes or impact, such as bumping. For your protection, tempered glass is designed to shatter into many small, pebble-size pieces. This is normal. Glass shelves and covers are heavy. Use special care when removing them to avoid impact from dropping.

To ensure proper ventilation for your refrigerator, allow for V2" (1.25 cm) space on each side and at the top. When installing your refrigerator next to a fixed wall, leave 2" (5.08 cm) minimum on each side (depending on your model) to allow for the door to swing open. If your refrigerator has an ice maker, allow extra space at the back for the water line connections.

It is recommended that you do not install the refrigerator near an oven, radiator, or other heat source. Do not install in a location where the temperature will fall below 55°F (13°C).
Normal minimum cabinet cut-out width required for product installation is 36" (91.44 cm). However, if the product is placed against an extended wall and the ability to remove the crisper pans is desired, an additional 18" (45.72 cm) of cabinet width is required, so a total cabinet opening width of 54" (137.16 cm) is recommended.

Electrical Shock Hazard

Before you move your refrigerator into its final location, it is important to make sure you have the proper electrical
connection.
Recommended Grounding Method
A 115 Volt, 60 Hz., AC only, 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded
electrical supply is required. It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only your refrigerator be provided. Use an outlet that cannot be turned off by a switch. Do not use an
extension cord. NOTE: Before performing any type of installation, cleaning, or
removing a light bulb, turn the control (Thermostat, Refrigerator or Freezer Control depending on the model) to OFF and then disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical source. When you are finished, reconnect the refrigerator to the electrical source and reset the control (Thermostat, Refrigerator or Freezer Control depending on the model) to the desired setting. See "Using the
Controls."
Gather the required tools and parts before starting installation. Read and follow the instructions provided with any tools listed
here.

NOTE: Your refrigerator dealer has a kit available with a V4" (6.35 mm) saddle-type shutoff valve, a union, and copper tubing.
Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-type valve complies with
your local plumbing codes. Do not use a piercing-type or ¾e"
(4.76 mm) saddle valve which reduces water flow and clogs more easily.
IMPORTANT:
All installations must meet local plumbing code requirements.
Use copper tubing and check for leaks. Install copper tubing only in areas where the household temperatures will remain
above freezing.
Cordless drill
Water Pressure
A cold water supply with water pressure of between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa) is required to operate the water dispenser and ice maker. If you have questions about your water pressure, call a licensed, qualified plumber.
Reverse Osmosis Water Supply IMPORTANT: The pressure of the water supply coming out of a
reverse osmosis system going to the water inlet valve of the refrigerator needs to be between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa).
If a reverse osmosis water filtration system is connected to your cold water supply, the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system needs to be a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa).
If the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system is less than 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa):
Check to see whether the sediment filter in the reverse osmosis system is blocked. Replace the filter if necessary.
Allow the storage tank on the reverse osmosis system to refill after heavy usage.
If your refrigerator has a water filter, it may further reduce the water pressure when used in conjunction with a reverse osmosis system. Remove the water filter. See "Water Filtration System."
If you have questions about your water pressure, call a licensed, qualified plumber.
Read all directions before you begin. IMPORTANT: If you turn the refrigerator on before the water line
is connected, turn the ice maker OFR
6. Fasten the shutoff valve to the cold water pipe with the pipe clamp. Be sure the outlet end is solidly in the 1/4"(6.35 mm) drilled hole in the water pipe and that the washer is under the pipe clamp. Tighten the packing nut. Tighten the pipe clamp screws slowly and evenly so the washer makes a watertight seal. Do not overtighten or you may crush the copper tubing.
7. Slip the compression sleeve and compression nut on the copper tubing as shown. Insert the end of the tubing into the outlet end squarely as far as it will go. Screw the compression nut onto outlet end with adjustable wrench. Do not overtighten.
8. Place the free end of the tubing in a container or sink, and turn ON the main water supply. Flush the tubing until water is clear. Turn OFF the shutoff valve on the water pipe. Coil the copper tubing.
Connect to Refrigerator
Style 1
1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
2. Attach the copper tube to the valve inlet using a compression nut and sleeve as shown. Tighten the compression nut. Do not overtighten.
3. Use the tube clamp on the back of the refrigerator to secure the tubing to the refrigerator as shown. This will help avoid damage to the tubing when the refrigerator is pushed back against the wall.
4. Turn shutoff valve ON.
5. Check for leaks. Tighten any connections (including connections at the valve) or nuts that leak.

Connect to Water Line
1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
2. Turn OFF main water supply. Turn ON nearest faucet long enough to clear line of water.
3. Locate a 1/2"(12.70 mm) to 11/4"(3.18 cm) vertical cold water pipe near the refrigerator.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure it is a cold water pipe.
Horizontal pipe will work, but drill on the top side of the
pipe, not the bottom. This will help keep water away from the drill and normal sediment from collecting in the valve.

Determine the length of copper tubing you need. Measure from the connection on the lower rear corner of refrigerator to the water pipe. Add 7 ft (2.1 m) to allow for cleaning. Use 1/4" (6.35 mm) O.D. (outside diameter) copper tubing. Be sure both ends of copper tubing are cut square.

Using a cordless drill, drill a 1/4"(6.35 mm) hole in the cold water pipe you have selected.

The ice maker is equipped with a built-in water strainer. If

your water conditions require a second water strainer, install it in the 1/4"(6.35 mm) water line at either tube connection. Obtain a water strainer from your nearest appliance dealer.
Style 2
1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
2. Remove and discard the black nylon plug from the gray water tube on the rear of the refrigerator.
3. If the gray water tube supplied with the refrigerator is not long enough, a 1/4"x 1/4"(6.35 mm x 6.35 mm) coupling is needed in order to connect the water tubing to an existing household water line. Thread the provided nut onto the coupling on the end of the copper tubing.
NOTE: Tighten the nut by hand. Then tighten it with a wrench two more turns. Do not overtighten.

Complete the Installation
There may be an occasion when you will need to remove the
factory-installed trim kit, such as moving the refrigerator to a new home or installing custom-made decorator panels. Please read all instructions before removing the trim kit and decorator panels.

2. Flush the water system. See "Prepare the Water System" or "Water and Ice Dispensers."
NOTE: Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Allow 3 days to completely fill ice container.
Remove the Door Panels
NOTE: When removing and replacing decorator panels, only the handle is removed. All other trim pieces remain attached to the
doors.
1. Remove the refrigerator and freezer handles:
Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws that hold each handle in place.
Lift off handle. Make sure you keep screws for reattaching handles.
2. Remove the door panels:
Open refrigerator or freezer door.
Slide out decorator panel and filler board.
Repeat process for other panels and filler boards.
Store panel and filler boards to prevent scratching.
Replace the Door Panels

Replace the refrigerator or freezer door panels:
Open refrigerator or freezer door.
Slide the 1/8"(3.18 mm) decorator panel into place behind the side trim.
Push the filler board into place behind the decorator panel.
Repeat process for other panels and filler boards.

Attach the handles: NOTE: Freezer door handle is notched to fit around the
dispenser panel.
Align the top of the refrigerator or freezer handle flush with the top trim. Fasten the handle to the refrigerator or freezer door with the screws, using a Phillips screwdriver.
Repeat the process for the other handle.
Care for Decorator Panels
1. Clean panels with an anti-static cleaner (available in electronics or computer departments) or mild soap and water with a clean, soft, damp cloth.
2. Rinse panels thoroughly and blot dry using a dry, soft cloth or chamois.
NOTE: Do not use paper towels or cleaners which contain solvents such as ammonia. They can damage the surface of the panels.
3. If small scratches should appear on the panels, they may be filled using an automotive paste wax (not a cleaner/wax combination). Apply wax sparingly and buff lightly with a clean, soft cloth using a circular motion.

Install Custom Wood Panels
Ifyou plan to install custom wood decorator panels, you will need to create the panels yourself or consult your cabinetmaker or carpenter. See dimension drawings for wood panel inserts.
Flat panels:
You can create a custom flat panel a maximum of 1/4"(6.35 mm) thick to replace your decorator panels. Flat wood panels less than 1/4"(6.35 mm) thick are not recommended.
Raised panels: A raised panel design can be created by screwing or gluing wood
panels to 1/4"(6.35 mm) backing or by using 3/4"(19.05 mm) stock with routed edges.
Weight requirements for raised panel inserts:
Refrigerator door panel should not exceed 25 Ibs (9.98 kg).
Freezer door panels should not exceed 18 Ibs (6.80 kg) combined weight.

REFRIGERATOR USE
For your convenience, your refrigerator controls are preset at the factory. When you first install your refrigerator, make sure that the controls are still preset. The Refrigerator Control and the Freezer Control should both be set to the "mid-settings."
Your model may have Slide Controls, Electronic Controls or Digital Controls.
IMPORTANT (All Controls):
The Refrigerator Control adjusts the refrigerator compartment temperature. The Freezer Control adjusts the freezer compartment temperature.
Wait 24 hours before you put food into the refrigerator. If you add food before the refrigerator has cooled completely, your food may spoil.
NOTE: Adjusting the Refrigerator and Freezer Controls to a higher (colder) than recommended setting will not cool the compartments any faster.
If the temperature is too warm or too cold in the refrigerator or freezer, first check the air vents to be sure they are not blocked before adjusting the controls.
The preset settings should be correct for normal household usage. The controls are set correctly when milk or juice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm.
Wait at least 24 hours between adjustments. Recheck the temperatures before other adjustments are made.
Slide Controls (on some models)

For Style 1, your product will not cool when the Refrigerator control is set to OFR For Style 2, your product will not cool
when the Freezer Control is set to OFF
The Automatic Exterior Moisture control continuously guards against moisture buildup on the outside of your refrigerator cabinet. This control does not have to be set or adjusted.
Adjusting Slide Controls
Settings to the left of the mid-setting make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-setting make the temperature colder.
Slide the FREEZER or REFRIGERATOR control one setting to the right or left depending on the needed temperature change.
NOTE: For Style 1, after adjusting the refrigerator temperature, wait 24 hours and then recheck the FREEZER temperature before making additional adjustments.

Adjusting Electronic Controls
Settings to the left of the mid-setting make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-setting make the
temperature colder.
Press the FREEZER or REFRIGERATOR arrow to move the indicator light to the right, one setting at a time. Continue moving the indicator light until it is at the desired setting.

Accelerated Ice Production
This feature assists with temporary periods of heavy ice usage by increasing ice production over a 24-hour period.
Press ICE touch pad to set the freezer temperature to -10°F (-23°C). The Accelerated Ice setting will remain on for 24 hours unless manually turned off. The display will continue to show your normal temperature set point.

Max Cool
The Max Cool feature assists with periods of heavy ice usage, full
grocery loads, or temporarily warm room temperatures.
Press MAX COOL pad to turn on the Max Cool feature. The Max Cool indicator light will remain on for 24 hours unless manually turned off.
NOTE: The temperature display will not change. After 24 hours, the refrigerator returns to the previous temperature set points.
NOTE: If increased ice production is desired at all times, set the Freezer Control to a colder setting. Adjusting the freezer to a colder temperature may make some foods, such as ice cream, harder.

To turn the refrigerator on, press and hold POWER (ON/OFF) for 2 seconds.The factory recommended set points are 0°F (-18°C)
for the freezer and 37°F (3°C) for the refrigerator.
NOTES:
To view Celsius temperatures, press the °C SELECT pad. The indicator will light up. To return the display setting to
Fahrenheit, press the °C SELECT pad again.
If the freezer temperature is below zero, the negative sign next to the freezer display will light up.
Adjusting Digital Controls
The set point range for the freezer is -5°F to 5°F (-21 °C to -15°C). The set point range for the refrigerator is 33°F to 41°F (1°C to 5°0).
To adjust the set point temperatures, press the refrigerator or freezer PLUS (+) or MINUS (-) pad until the desired
temperature is reached.
Accelerated Ice Production (on some models)
This feature assists with temporary periods of heavy ice use by
increasing ice production over a 24-hour period.
Press OPTIMICE ®feature touch pad to turn on the Optimlce ® feature. The Optimlce ®setting will remain on for 24 hours unless manually turned off.
If increased ice production is desired at all times, set the Freezer Control to a colder number. Setting the freezer to a colder temperature may make some foods, such as ice cream, harder.
Temperature System
The Temperature System feature lets you know the compressor
or evaporator fan is running. It is normal for this indicator light to be on.

The control can be adjusted to properly chill meats or vegetables. The air inside the pan is cooled to avoid "spot" freezing and can
be set to keep meats at the National Livestock and Meat Board recommended storage temperatures of 28 ° to 32°F (-2° to 0°C).
The convertible vegetable/meat drawer control comes preset at
the lowest meat setting.
To store meat:
Set the control to one of the three MEAT settings to store meat at its optimal storage temperature.
To store vegetables:
Set the control to VEG to store vegetables at their optimal storage temperatures.
NOTE: If food starts to freeze, move the control to the left (less cold). Remember to wait 24 hours between adjustments.

You can control the amount of humidity in the moisture-sealed crisper. Adjust the control to any setting between LOW and
HIGH. LOW (open) for best storage of fruits and vegetables with skins.
HIGH (closed) for best storage of fresh, leafy vegetables.
Cool air from the freezer is directed to the refrigerator door bin directly beneath the vents.
NOTE: The dairy compartment and can rack are not associated with the Chilled Door Bin feature.
Chilled Door Bin Control
The chilled door bin control is located on the left-hand side of the refrigerator compartment.
The Water Dispenser
IMPORTANT: Dispense enough water every week to maintain a
fresh supply. To Dispense Water:
1. Press a sturdy glass against the water dispenser lever.
2. Remove the glass to stop dispensing.
The Ice Dispenser
Ice dispenses from the ice maker storage bin in the freezer. The dispensing system will not operate when the freezer door is open.
To turn off the ice maker, see "Ice Maker & Storage Bin."
Some models dispense both cubed and crushed ice. Before dispensing ice, select which type of ice you prefer.
For crushed ice, cubes are crushed before they are dispensed.
This may cause a slight delay when dispensing crushed ice.
Noise from the ice crusher is normal, and pieces of ice may vary in size. When changing from crushed to cubed, a few ounces of
crushed ice will be dispensed along with the first cubes.
To Dispense Ice:
1. If the ice storage bin is located on the door, remove the temporary shield from underneath the ice storage bin. See "Ice Maker and Storage Bin."
2. Press button for the desired type of ice.

A. Chilled door bin control
Slide the door chill control to the left to reduce the flow of cold air to the bin and make it less cold.
Slide the door chill control to the right to increase the flow of cold air to the bin and make it colder.
Depending on your model, you may have one or more of the following options: the ability to select either crushed or cubed ice, a special light that turns on when you use the dispenser, a special AUTO mode, or a lock option to avoid unintentional dispensing.
NOTES:
The dispensing system will not operate when the freezer door is open.
After connecting the refrigerator to a water source, flush the water system. Use a sturdy container to depress and hold the water dispenser lever for 5 seconds, then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat until water begins to flow. Once water begins to flow, continue depressing and releasing the dispenser lever (5 seconds on, 5 seconds off) for an
additional 2 minutes. This will flush air from the filter and water dispensing system. Additional flushing may be required
in some households. As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of the dispenser.
Allow 24 hours for the refrigerator to cool down and chill water.
Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced.
Cut Hazard
Use a sturdy glass when dispensing ice. Failure to do so can result in cuts.
3. Press a sturdy glass against the ice dispenser lever. Hold the glass close to the dispenser opening so ice does not fall
outside of the glass. IMPORTANT: You do not need to apply a lot of pressure to
the lever in order to activate the ice dispenser. Pressing hard will not make the ice dispense faster or in greater quantities.
4. Remove the glass to stop dispensing.
The Dispenser Light
Style 1
The dispenser area has a light. It can be turned on manually by
pressing the ON button (touch pad or rocker switch). On some models: Whenever you use the dispenser the lever will
automatically turn the light on.

When you use the dispenser, the lever will automatically turn the light on. If you want the light to be on continuously, you may
choose either ON or AUTO.

ON: Press the LIGHT button to turn the dispenser light on. AUTO: Press the LIGHT button a second time to select the AUTO
mode. The dispenser light will automatically adjust to become brighter as the room brightens, dimmer as the room darkens.
OFF: Press the LIGHT button a third time to turn the dispenser light off.
The dispenser lights are LEDs which should not need to be changed. If it appears that your dispenser lights are not working, check to be sure that the light sensor is not blocked (in AUTO mode). See "Troubleshooting" for more information.
The Dispenser Lock (on some models)
The dispenser can be locked for easy cleaning or to avoid unintentional dispensing by small children and pets.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the refrigerator, to the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates the dispenser levers.
Style 1 To turn off the dispenser, press the LOCK button until the
indicator appears. The ice and water dispensers will not work. To unlock the dispenser, press the UNLOCK button until the indicator appears. Then continue to dispense ice or water as
usual.
Style 2
To turn off the dispenser, press and hold the LOCK OUT button until the indicator appears. The ice and water dispensers will not work. To unlock the dispenser, press the LOCK OUT button until the indicator disappears. Then continue to dispense ice or water
as usual.
Style 2
The On/Off switch is located on the top right-hand side of the
freezer compartment.
To turn on the ice maker, slide the control to the ON (left) position. To manually turn off the ice maker, slide the control to the OFF
(right) position. NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker
sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the control will remain in the ON (left) position.
REMEMBER:
Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced.
The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of the water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid connecting the ice maker to a softened water supply. Water softener chemicals (such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoided, make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well maintained.
Do not use anything sharp to break up the ice in the storage bin. This can cause damage to the ice container and the dispenser mechanism.
Do not store anything on top of or in the ice maker or storage bin.
Removing and Replacing Ice Storage Bin
Style 1
1. Pull the covering panel up from the bottom and then slide it back toward the rear.
2. Lift the wire shutoff arm so it clicks into the OFF (up) position. Ice can still be dispensed, but no more can be made.
3. Lift up the front of the storage bin and pull it out.
Turning the Ice Maker On/Off
Style 1
To turn ON the ice maker, simply lower the wire shutoff arm. To manually turn off the ice maker, lift the wire shutoff arm to the
OFF (arm up) position and listen for the click. NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. As ice is made,
the ice cubes will fill the ice storage bin, and the ice cubes will raise the wire shutoff arm to the OFF (arm up) position. Do not force the wire shutoff arm up or down.

Replace the bin by pushing it in all the way or the dispenser will not work. Push the wire shutoff arm down to the ON
position to restart ice production. Make sure the door is closed tightly.
Style 2
1. Hold the base of the storage bin with both hands and press
the release button to lift the storage bin up and out. NOTE: It is not necessary to turn the ice maker control to the
OFF (right) position when removing the storage bin. The sensor cover ("flipper door") on the left wall of the freezer stops the ice maker from producing ice if the door is open or the storage bin is removed.
2. Replace the storage bin on the door and push down to make sure it is securely in place.
Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
Water Filter Status Light (on some models)
The water filter status light will help you know when to change your water filter. The light will change from green to yellow. This
tells you that it is almost time to change the filter. It is
recommended that you replace the water filter when the status light changes to red OR water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably. The filter should be replaced at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and usage.
After changing the water filter, reset the water filter status light.
Style 1
Press the light switch 5 times within 10 seconds. The status light will change from red to green.
Style 2
Press and hold the water filter reset button until the status light turns green. Your reset button may be located on the water dispenser or on the control panel in the refrigerator compartment.
Non-Indicator Water Filter (on some models)
If your refrigerator does not have the water filter status light, you should change the water filter cartridge at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and usage. If the water flow to the water dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably before 6 months have passed, replace the water filter more often.
Using the Dispenser Without the Water Filter
You can run the dispenser without a water filter. Your water will not be filtered.
1. Remove the water filter.
2. Slide the cap off the end of the filter and replace the cap in the base grille.
IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.
REFRIGERATOR CARE
Explosion Hazard
Use nonflammable cleaner. Failure to do so can result in death, explosion, or fire.
Both the refrigerator and freezer sections defrost automatically. However, clean both sections about once a month to avoid buildup of odors. Wipe up spills immediately.
IMPORTANT: Because air circulates between both sections, any odors formed in one section will transfer to the other. You must
thoroughly clean both sections to eliminate odors. To avoid odor transfer and drying out of food, wrap or cover foods tightly.
To Clean Your Refrigerator: NOTE: Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners such as window
sprays, scouring cleansers, flammable fluids, cleaning waxes, concentrated detergents, bleaches or cleansers containing petroleum products on plastic parts, interior and door liners or gaskets. Do not use paper towels, scouring pads, or other harsh cleaning tools.
1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
2. Hand wash, rinse, and dry removable parts and interior surfaces thoroughly. Use a clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm water.
3. Wash stainless steel and painted metal exteriors with a clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm water.
4. There is no need for routine condenser cleaning in normal home operating environments. If the environment is particularly greasy or dusty, or there is significant pet traffic in the home, the condenser should be cleaned every 2 to 3 months to ensure maximum efficiency.
If you need to clean the condenser:
Remove the base grille.
Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush to clean the grille,
the open areas behind the grille and the front surface area of the condenser.
Replace the base grille when finished.
5. Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.
