1. INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the Kidde Combinaon Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm with a 10-year sealed-in baery.
Please take a few minutes to thoroughly read this user guide which should be saved for future reference. Teach children how to respond to the alarms, and ensure that they don’t ever play with this unit.
IMPORTANT: Addional markings on back of the unit.
Your alarm was designed to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide from any source of combuson in a residenal environment. It is not tested for use in a caravan or boat.
This apparatus is NOT a substute for maintenance of fuel burning appliances and venng /exhaust systems.
If you have any quesons about the operaon or installaon of your alarm, please call our Freephone Consumer Hotline on 0800 917 0722- between 9am - 5pm Mon - Fri.
This apparatus is to be installed by a competent person.
2
2. SMOKE ALARM BEST PRACTISE
A smoke alarm paern is 3 long beeps, repeated every 1.5 seconds.
At all mes and before installing your smoke alarm you must;
• Have an escape plan with alternate exits
• Train your family in this escape plan and pracse it regularly
• Ensure your family know what the alarm sounds like
If the alarm sounds, check for fires first of all, and if one is discovered then;
• DO Alert small children
• DO Exit the home according to your escape plan
• DO Crawl if the smoke is dense, using a damp cloth to breathe through
• DO Call the fire brigade from a neighbour’s home
• DO Ensure that everyone is awake, and assistance is given to those who require it
• DON’T stop to dress or retrieve valuables
• DON’T open doors that are warm, or through which smoke is seeping
NOTE – Situaons where a smoke alarm might not be effecve;
• Smoking in bed
• Leaving children unaended
• Cleaning with flammable liquids resulng in explosive vapour.
3
3. IMPORTANT SMOKE ALARM INFORMATION
• Before temporarily silencing the alarm with the Hush buon, idenfy the source of the smoke.
• Smoke alarms need to be tested regularly
• Smoke alarms cannot provide an alarm if smoke cannot reach them
• Fires in chimneys, walls, roofs, different levels or behind closed doors might not be detected
• For the physically or mentally impaired, or very young, escape may be difficult and so
alternave escape strategies should be adopted
• The smoke alarm may not wake heavy sleepers or those impaired by the use of drugs or
alcohol. In this case an alarm should be fied in each sleeping area
• Smoke alarms can save lives, but they are not an alternave for an adequate insurance policy
to protect lives and property
Leading authories recommend that both ionisaon and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detecon of the various types of fires that can occur within the home. Ionisaon sensing alarms may detect invisible fire parcles (associated with fast flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible fire parcles (associated with slow smoldering fires) sooner than ionisaon alarms.

4. CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) ALARM BEST PRACTISE
!
A CO alarm paern is 4 quick beeps, repeated every 5 seconds.
WARNING: Carbon monoxide alarm acvaon indicates the presence of CO at high
concentraons which can kill you. NOTE: If you recognise any of the symptoms on page 8 consult your Doctor immediately.
NOTE: Young children, elderly and pets are more suscepble to the dangers of CO.
NOTE: This alarm is designed to detect CO gas. It is not designed to detect other gases
such as natural gas.
NOTE: This alarm is intended for use in ordinary family homes. It is not designed to measure compliance with occupaonal safety and the HSE.
NOTE: Individuals with certain specific medical condions may need an alarm that operates below 30ppm. If this applies consult your Doctor.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that all family members are familiar with the symptoms of CO poisoning and how your alarm works.
5
5. WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CO ALARM SOUNDS
!
Carbon Monoxide Alarm Procedure
WARNING! When this alarm sounds it indicates the presence of CO which can kill you. Based on recommendaons from EN 50292, follow these steps if alarm sounds (4 loud audible pulses followed by a pausefor 5 seconds):
1) Keep calm and open all doors and windows. Turn off all fuel-burning appliances if possible. Note: it is possible that outdoor condions could influence domesc CO alarms (bad traffic polluon in cold weather, for example). In these circumstances, the level of indoor CO might actually increase when doors and windows are opened.
2) If the alarm connues to sound, even aer being reset (where appropriate), then evacuate the premises, alerng other occupants to the risk. Leave doors and windows open. Do not re-enter the premises.
3) Get medical help for anyone suffering the effects of CO poisoning, and advise that CO inhalaon is suspected.
4) Call Gas Emergency Services: 0800 111 999, or your local Gas Safe Registered Engineer: Engineer.
PHONE NUMBER
Never restart the source of a CO problem unl it has been corrected. Never ignore the sound of the alarm! Pressing the test/reset buon will silence the alarm. If the CO condion that caused the alert connues, the alarm will reacvate. If the unit alarms again within six minutes, it is sensing high levels of CO which can quickly become a dangerous situaon.

6. WHAT IS CARBON MONOXIDE?
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly poisonous gas with no taste, colour or smell.
Potenal Sources of CO
Wood-burning stoves
Gas boilers and fires
Gas Hobs
Oil and coal burning appliances
Portable gas heaters
Blocked flues and chimneys
Fumes from integral garages
Barbecues
High concentraons of tobacco smoke
This CO alarm is not a substute for the correct
maintenance of your appliances.
Carbon monoxide can be produced from poorly burning
appliances or from blocked flues and chimneys.
If your alarm has sounded and you have venlated the
room the CO may have dispersed before help arrives. It is
crucial that the source of CO is determined and
appropriate maintenance carried out.
Carbon monoxide is a cumulave poison. This alarm is me-weighted – the higher the level of CO, the sooner it will alarm.
NOTE: The apparatus may respond to brief exhaust gas emissions, for example during the inial start-up of an appliance. Also, hydrogen acts as an interferent and can arise from some baery charging acvies and the curing of concrete or cement under certain circumstances. Volale Organic Compounds (VOCs), e.g. alcohols, which may eventually acvate the alarm, can be generated from use of damp-proofing materials or other coangs containing alkylalkoxysilanes.
