KEYSTONE PED - OPERATION AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
KEYSTONE SERIES 36/37 K-LOK HIGH PERFORMANCE BUTTERFLY VALVES
Before installation, these instructions must be read fully and understood
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING
For safety reasons, it is important to take the
following precautions before starting work on
any valve:
1. Personnel making any adjustments to the
valves should utilize proper equipment
and wear all necessary personal protective
equipment (PPE) normally used to work with
the process where the valve is installed.
2. The piping must be depressurized, drained
and vented before installing the valve, to
avoid injuries and spillage of process fluid.
3. Personnel trained in all aspects of manual
and mechanical handling techniques must
carry out handling of all valves.
4. Verify the pressure/temperature limitations
of the valve are within the process design
conditions. Limitations are shown on the
nameplate of the valve. Users can also refer
to the limitations shown on P/T diagrams in
the product data sheet.
5. Verify the valve's material of construction,
shown on the name plate, are compatible
with the process fluid.
6. Misuse of the valve is not allowed.
7. Examples of misuse include using the valve,
handles, actuators or other parts as climbing
tools, tie offs or leverage devices.
INSTALLATION
Detailed instructions are shown in the product
manual and installation and operating
instructions.
1. Flush the piping system clean to remove dirt,
scale, weld wire and other foreign debris
which will damage the valve during operation.
2. Wafer body style valves are suitable for bi-
directional shutoff once installed between
two flanges. Lug body style valves are
suitable for bi-directional end-of-line shutoff.
3. Remove protective covers from valve faces,
and verify the valve is fully closed.
4. Verify mating flanges, valves faces and
gaskets are clean and undamaged.
5. Verify mating pipe flanges are aligned.
6. Spread the piping to allow the valve to
slip between the mating flanges without
interference. Do not use the valve as a lever,
crowbar or wedge.
7. Tighten the flange bolts in a cross bolt
diagonal pattern.
8. Check the valve operation to verify there is
no interference between disc and mating
flanges/pipe.
IMPORTANT
Do not finish weld the flanges in the pipe with
the valve in place. If required for alignment
considerations, the mating flanges can be tack
welded to the pipe with the valve located in place.
The valve shall be removed after tack welding for
final welding of the flanges. Proper protection
of the valve interior shall be taken during tack
welding to protect the valve. Cleaning of the
line after welding shall be completed prior to
installation of the valve.
STORAGE AND PROTECTION
Packed valves are to be stored off the ground
in a clean, dry, indoor area.
Valves are delivered with protection covers,
which should be left in place until fitting to
the pipe.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
K-LOK valves are clockwise to close. Actuators
on valves are set at the factory, if equipped.
No routine maintenance is required other
than periodic inspection to ensure satisfactory
operation and sealing.
Any sign of leakage from packing gland should
be addressed immediately by tightening the
gland bolts evenly. If leakage continues, please
refer to the product manual.
SPARE PARTS
Only use OEM Keystone spare and replacement
parts. Fordetailed information please refer to
the product manual. References on the valve
name plate shall be quoted for any spare parts
inquiry.
