Situation:
The front panel flex circuits that are green in co lor can gr ow de ndrites, which can ul timately short out traces causing the front panel keys not to function. The "green" circuits utilize silv er w hich can cause this de ndr ite gr owth. The new "copper" colored flex c ir c uits utilize copper/nickel/gold plating which perfo rms ve r y we ll under various environmental condit ions .
Solutio n / A ction:
Agilent Ser vice Centers should replace the f le x ci rcuits if the instru me nt se r ia l f al ls within the specified range . Ano ther me thod would be to look at the co lor of the existing flex circuit. All green flex circuits are suspect and should be replaced. Se rv ic e Cente r pe rs onne l should refer to the ESA Service Guide for prope r insta ll ation of the f le x circui t.
