Situation:
Instruments within the above serial range can experience an intermittent screen "flic ke r" due to a
cold solder joint on pin 7 of the transf or mer on the backlight inverter board. The backlight
inverter board a tta c he s to the f ro nt pa ne l interface board (A1A1) on the a na lyz e r. The atta ch ed
figures below in the Sol ution/Action section c a n be refere nc e d on the proc e dur e to use to co rrec t
for this pro b le m.
The backlight inverter board and LCD displa y a re proc ur e d toge ther as an assembly from NEC.
Manufactu ring ha s tr oubleshot screen flic ke r is sue s to poor solder qualit y on pin 7 of the
transformer on the backlight inve rt er boar d. NEC has been notified and an in spe c tion process
implemen te d in ma nufacturing to cur e th is pr oblem.
Solution / Action:
If an ESA or EMC analyze r is returne d a nd the fail description r el ates to a di spla y problem (no
display or intermittent "flicker"), Agilent Service Centers should remove the backlight inverter
board and perfor m the f ollowing procedure:
1) Peel back the plastic shield on the backlight inverter board. See Figure 1.
