Situation:
Noise filters on the A1 Source board are stressed by an applied DC voltage over the specified
withstanding voltage of the filters. This may affect the lifetime of the filters and, as a result, the
reliability of the A1 Source board.
Solution/Action:
Replace the A1 Source board assembly with new one in accordance with the instruction below.
(1) See E5070A rear panel and, if a gray label above the instrument serial number has been pasted, do
not perform the following modification. See Figure 1 for the location of the label.
Note: The gray label indicates that the modification for this service note has already been
accomplished.
(2) Remove the cover of the E5070A instrument cabinet.
(3) Verify that a gray label (same as that on the rear panel) is not on the shield cover of the A1 board.
If there is a gray label on the A1 board (even if there is no gray label on the rear panel), do not
perform the following modification. See Figure 2 for the location of the label.
(4) Replace the A1 board with new one (p/n E5071-69501).
(5) Restore the cover of the instrument (removed in step 2).
(6) Perform the following adjustments contained in the Source Board adjustment of the E5070A
adjustment program. Execute the program using Spot adjustment mode.
Frequency reference adjustment
Source power adjustment
Test port characteristics adjustment
(7) Perform the following function tests using the service test function of the E5070A:
Internal Test (see To Execute the Interna l Test on the E5070A/E5071A service manual)
External Test (see To Execute the External Test on the E5070A/E5071A service manual)
(8) Perform all the performance tests and verify that the instrument meets the E5070A specification.
(9) Paste the gray label (p/n 5080-3270) on the rear panel of the E5070A. See Figure 1 for the location
of the label.
Note: Refer to page 3 for Figure 1 and Figure 2.
