SITUATION:
EMI suppressio n filte r s (pn 9135-0461) on referenc e bo ards with pa rt num be rs E4400-60009 and
E4400-60010 ( A11) , may shor t power supplies or cau se no digital control on the ESGs
mentioned above. During of some of the A11 boards, corrosive flux came in contact with the
filters. As a result, when the instr ument is in norma l ope r a tion, the filters m ay shor t to gr ound.
This process has now be e n ch anged to prevent the c or ro sion problem. If th ere are an y failures,
they should oc cu r within two to six months of nor ma l oper a tion. A high tempera ture and low
humidity environment will dry out the remaining flux and prevent the filters from being shorted
to ground. It is e stimated that approximately 4.0 % ( 12 to 16 units) will fail.
SOLUTION:
Maintenance is required on the specific failure. Service will be provided at Agilent Service
Centers (for loc a tions see the ESG Fa mily Signal Gen era tor s U se r ’ s G uide ) . The resolution will
be to replace the reference board A11 and do all the necessary performance test in accordance
with the ESG Fa mily Signal Gene r at or s Ca libration Guide.
