Situation:
A flash firmware upgrade of the instrument will overwrite the contents of the #H05 ROM
erasing the contents permanently.
#H05 is a licenced encryption facility for GSM and is not a common option in 8922
(Currently under 50 units world wide). It is not on CPL.
This option consists of one ROM, GSM Controller board U17.
#H05 Encryption ROM for firmware B.07.07 or below is 08922-87249 (8922H/M).
#H05 Encryption ROM for firmware B.07.08 or above is 8922M 08922-87391,
#H05 Encryption ROM for firmware C.01.04 or above is 8922P/X
(ie 8922M#010) 08922-87392.

To date (Sept 98) the #H05 option has NOT been identified on the instrument - this option
will be identified on new instruments and retro-fit labels are being distributed to current
instruments which will include the serial number of the instrument to which the licence
applies.
How to check if #H05 is fitted :
a) On MS INFO screen, select CYPHERING. If options are OFF and DISABLED,
#H05 is not fitted. If ENABLED is also an option, then #H05 is fitted.
b) On GSM Controller board, if U17 is one of above ROMs, then #H05 is fitted.
Solution / Action:
Having identified that #H05 is fitted, there are 3 scenarios to consider :
1) Upgrading from below B.07.07 to B.07.07.
The #H05 ROM 08922-87249 needs removed from the instrument and a ’dummy’
ROM inserted for the duration of theupgrade.
’Dummy’ ROM part no is 1818-5035.
Remove ’dummy’ and replace with #H05 ROM after upgrade is complete.
2) Upgrading from B.07.08/C.01.04 to later versions
The #H05 ROM 08922-87391or 08922-87392 needs removed from the instrument
and a ’dummy’ ROM inserted for the duration of the upgrade.
’Dummy’ ROM part no is 1818-5035.
Remove ’dummy’ and replace with #H05 ROM after upgrade is complete. (ROM
part numbers also advised at firmware web page)
3) Upgrading from B.07.07 or below to B.07.08/C.01.04 or above.
This is the transition which will require ROM upgrading. Please contact Linda Keir,
QMD Specials Engineering, with the instrument serial number.
The original #H05 ROM will need to be returned to QMD after completion of the
upgrade to comply with the licence conditions.
