Situation:
The 8751A’s Option 001 provides a high stability frequency reference for the standard 8751A. Option 001’s detailed specifications are in the 8751A Operation Manual (p/n 08751-90000).
This service note gives the procedure for installing Option 001 into a standard 8751A.
Solution/Action:
Refer to the chapter “Replacement Procedures” in the 8751A Service Manual (p/n 08751-
90036) in order to install Option 001.

Option Board Installation: For the 8751A with serial number prefix 3146J(A) and below:
1. Remove the top cover.
2. Remove the standard A12 board (p/n 08751-66512).
3. Install the Option 001 A12 board (p/n 08751-66513) in its place, and reconnect the cables which were connected to the standard A12 board.
For the 8751A with serial number prefix 3315J(A) and above:
1. Remove the top cover.
2. Install the Option 001 A60 board (p/n 04195-66560) in accordance with the serv­ice manual.
Rear Panel BNC Connector Installation:
1. Remove the rear panel assembly.
2. Remove the plug hole cap from the REF OVEN (OPTION 001) hole on the rear panel.
3. Screw the BNC center pin of RF cable “J2” into the BNC connector body.
4. Install the BNC connector body with the cable into the REF OVEN hole, using a nut and a washer.
5. Route RF cable “J2” through the top right hand side cut out (looking from the rear) of rear chassis.
6. Connect RF cable “j2” to A12J2 (for A12 board) or A60J2 (for A60 board).
7. Fix RF cable “J2” with the right hand side cable clamp (looking from the rear).
8. Reinstall the rear panel assembly, the side covers, and the bottom cover.
9. Connect between the REF OVEN and the EXT REF using the BNC(m)-BNC(m) adapter on the rear panel.
10. Attach the name plate on the right of the serial number label on the rear panel.
