Page 2 Service Note 8713B-02
Situation:
QMD has discovered that the PHONO cables used in the A3 Frac-N board assembly
were improperly made and may be intermittent. All 871xB instruments shipped prior to
mid-January, 1996 with a “GB” serial prefix within the above range may be affected.
These units are generally shipped to European destinations.
These cables are the four RCA phono cables. Examination of these parts reveals insufficient solder at the tips of the connector. Since there are several cables per board, the
failure symptoms may be varied. The RF output of analyzer may not change frequency,
the trace may be noisy, or excess spurs may exist.
Solution/Action:
For any analyzer in the above range, it is recommended that all four cables on the A3
Frac-N assembly be replaced if any are found to be a problem. There are two different
lengths involved; three of one length and one of another. Make sure that each end of
each cable is fully seated on the connector.
