Incorrect part in service kit/incorrect procedure in manual
Parts Required: Part No. 08711-60017
Situation:
It was recently discovered that a cable supplied in the 8711 service kit was improperly
designed. While it may work in some cases, it could produce a failure in service test
adjustment #103, External Detector Correction Adjustment.
In addtion, the procedure in the service manual for this adjustment is also incorrect.
Service manual 08711-90003 edition 2 (and before) are incorrect; edition 3 is correct.
Solution/Action:
1. If you already have the service kit (p/n 08711-60010), either re-order the external
detector adapter cable (p/n 08711-60017) or modifiy it as follows.
Add another wire (green) from pin K of the detector connector to an alligator clip. This
will be your ground connector. Also note that some previous versions of this cable may be
miswired. Verify the red wire goes to pin D and the black wire to pin C of the connector.
