Situation:
Instruments with specific serial numbers noted below may have defective RPP (Reverse
Power Protection) assemblies. The RPP assembly protects the RF output circuitry from
damage due to externally applied power. Failure symptoms include no RF output or a low
output level (relative to front-panel settings).
The RPP assembly consists of several components, one of which is reed relay encased in a
glass tube with teflon plugs at both ends. An elastomer envelope is used to secure coil
windings around the glass tube and to provide consistent electrical characteristics.
The RPP fails when the elastomer expands beyond its nominal size and contacts the
external connections of the reed relay. This causes a low impedance RF path to ground.

Solution/Action:
1. Remove the original RPP assembly and replace it with the part number listed above.
Refer to Figure 1 for assembly and component location.
2. Run the internal diagnostics after replacing the RPP assembly.
3. Perform RF Level Accuracy Performance Test to insure that the instrument meets
specifications.
