Situation:
On the A12 and A13 assemblies, the power FET’s mounted on the heat sinks can loosen over time and cause these assemblies to fail. The insulator material thickness appears to change causing the torque on the nuts holding the FET’s to change. The looser torque causes an intermittent FET contact resulting in an A12 or A13 failure.
Solution / Action:
It is recommended anytime an 836x is in for repair and the covers removed, the torque on the nuts holding the FET’s on the A12 and A13 assemblies be checked. The nuts should be torqued to 6" lbs. Be careful not to over torque, 7" lbs can strip the stud. After torquing the studs, re-flow the solder on the FET leads to reduce stress.
