Using the Flash MatrixTM, you can connect up to eight A/V devices and switch them to one, two, or three TVs or monitors at the same time. Examples include:

Do not use this apparatus near water

Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, con-

Introduction
The Flash MatrixTMis a versatile multi-input A/V matrix switcher for connecting video and audio sources to one or more video displays, Televisions or video monitors. It features eight inde­pendent component video/audio inputs and three independent component video/audio out­puts. PCM Digital audio can also be switched through the Flash Matrix

.
The Flash Matrix
TM
is the ideal solution when your TV, monitor, or receiver doesn't have
enough video and audio inputs. Using the Flash Matrix
TM
, you can connect up to eight A/V devices and switch them to one, two, or three TVs or video displays at the same time. Examples include:
DVD players
Electronic game boxes
Cable TV, satellite, and terrestrial DTV set-top receivers
Digital video recorders (DVRs)
D-VHS, S-VHS, and VHS VCRs
How It Works
The Flash MatrixTMhas the capacity to independently switch eight sets of component Y, Pb, Pr (three-wire) or component five-wire (R, G, B, H, V) video and analog/digital audio signals to any or all of three output jack fields. All input/output selections are clearly displayed on the front panel with blue LED indicators.
You can also switch S-video (with adapter) and composite video signals from VCRs, digital video recorders, and satellite set-top receivers through the Flash Matrix

.
Color-coded BNC jacks are provided on the rear panel for fast and easy hook-up. Each time an input/output combination is selected, all of the video and audio jacks that correspond to the selected input are assigned to the selected output.
Switching can be done in any of three ways:
Manually, using the front panel buttons and indicators Remotely, using the supplied infrared remote control

Connecting A/V Equipment
Connecting your A/V equipment to the Flash MatrixTMis a simple process. Start with Input #1 and proceed to the next higher input each time you add an A/V device.
First, determine the video signal format you want to connect. If an A/V device has component Y, Pb, Pr (three-wire) or component RGBHV (5-wire) video outputs, use these outputs for best video quality. If component Y, Pb, Pr or RGBHV video outputs are not available, use the S­video output instead, but an S-Video adapter cable is necessary. Composite video signals can also be switched through the Flash Matrix
TM
, but these signals will have the lowest overall
video quality.
Next, determine whether you want to use the A/V device's analog audio outputs or an avail­able digital audio output. Use analog outputs if you are switching audio to the analog inputs of a TV or monitor. Use digital outputs if you are switching audio to an A/V receiver that uses coaxial digital audio inputs for decoding surround sound signals.
WARNING - Do not connect a digital audio output signal to analog inputs on your TV or monitor! It may damage your speakers!
The Flash MatrixTMis wired with professional-grade BNC female connectors. These connec­tors offer a better match to video cables than do smaller RCA connectors. BNC plugs also provide a positive bayonet lock when installed.

sumer A/V devices do not use BNC connectors. If this is the case with some or all of the equipment, you will need to use RCA-to-BNC adapter plugs or adapter cable assem­blies in order to connect the Flash Matrix

to your associated equipment.

Example 1. Connecting a digital TV set-top receiver with component Y, Pb, Pr (three-wire) or component five-wire (RGBHV) video outputs to the Flash Matrix

Connect the three-wire green, blue, and red (Y, Pb, Pr) cables from your set-top receiver to the green, blue, and red jacks on the Flash Matrix

. Connect the white and red analog stereo
audio cables from your set-top receiver to the white and red jacks on the Flash Matrix
TM
. If you have a digital audio coax output available on your set-top receiver, you can connect it to the yellow jack on the Flash Matrix

.
Connect the green, blue, and red jacks from Outputs 1, 2, or 3 on the Flash Matrix
TM
to the corresponding component video jacks on your TV or monitor. Connect the white and red analog audio jacks from the same output to the corresponding audio jacks on your TV or monitor.
If you wish to listen to digital audio from your set-top receiver, connect a cable from the yel­low BNC jack in the same output section (1, 2 or 3) to your A/V receiver's coaxial digital audio input.
Do not connect the Flash MatrixTMdigital output to either of the analog audio
inputs on your TV or monitor!
If your set-top receiver uses RGBHV outputs, you will need a 15-pin 'breakout' adapter cable to use the switcher with your set-top receiver. Connect the red, green, and blue BNC plugs from this adapter cable to the red, green, and blue jacks on the Flash Matrix

. Connect the black and yellow wires from the breakout cable to the white and red (analog audio input) jacks on the Flash Matrix
TM
.
You can now connect an RGBHV signal to your monitor or TV by connecting red, green, blue, white, and red outputs on the Flash Matrix
TM
directly to red, green, blue, black, and yellow input jacks on your monitor or TV. These jacks may also be labeled R, G, B, H, and V. A second 15­pin breakout cable may be required for certain sets.
You will not be able to use analog audio switching in RGB mode, so connect digital audio (PCM) from your set-top receiver to the Flash Matrix as described above.

Example 2. Connecting a DVD player or game console with component Y, Pb, Pr (three-wire) video outputs to the Flash Matrix

Connect the three-wire green, blue, and red (Y, Pb, Pr) cables from your set-top receiver to the green, blue, and red jacks on the Flash Matrix
TM
. Connect the white and red analog stereo audio jacks on your set-top receiver to the white and red jacks on the Flash Matrix. If you have a digital audio output jack on your set-top receiver, you can connect it to the yellow jack on the Flash Matrix.
Connect the green, blue, and red jacks from Outputs 1, 2, or 3 on the Flash Matrix to the cor­responding component video jacks on your TV or monitor. Connect the white and red analog audio jacks from the same output to the corresponding audio jacks on your TV or monitor.
If you wish to listen to digital audio from your DVD player or game console, connect a cable from the yellow BNC jack in the same output to your A/V receiver's coaxial digital audio input. Do not connect the Flash Matrix digital output to either of the analog audio inputs on your TV or monitor!

Example 3. Connecting devices with S-video (two-wire) or composite video out­puts to the Flash Matrix

S-video connection: You will need a 'breakout' adapter cable to connect your satellite receiver, DVR, or S-VHS VCR to the Flash Matrix

. This cable has a S-Video (DIN) plug at one
end and a pair of BNC plugs at the other connected to white and yellow wires.
Connect the white (Y) wire to the green BNC jack in the selected input jack field, and connect the yellow (C) wire to either the blue or red BNC jack. Connect the white and red analog stereo audio jacks on your set-top receiver to the white and red jacks on the Flash Matrix

.
Connect the green BNC jack in the selected output jack field to the white (Y) wire of a sec­ond S-video to BNC adapter cable. Connect the blue or red jack to the yellow (C) wire on the adapter cable. Plug the other end into your TV or monitor's S-video input. Connect the white and red analog stereo audio jacks to your TV or monitor.
Composite video connection: Connect the composite video jack (yellow) from your VCR or DVR to the green BNC jack in the selected input jack field. Connect another com­posite video cable from the green BNC jack in the selected output jack field to your TV or video monitor. Follow the instructions above for connecting analog audio.

Manual selection and switching of A/V inputs and outputs with the Flash Matrix
Selecting video/audio inputs and switching them with the Flash Matrix is easy and fast.
There are three large pushbuttons with rows of blue LED indicators to the right of them on the front of the Flash Matrix. Each pushbutton corresponds to a separate video/audio output, and each indicator lamp corresponds to a video/audio input.
To switch an A/V device connected to a specific input to Outputs 1, 2, or 3, simply push the button for that output repeatedly until the LED indicator for the desired input is lit. All video and audio signals connected to that input are automatically sent to the selected output.
With the Flash Matrix, you can send video and audio signals from one input to one, two, or all three outputs. Simply repeat the input selection process for Outputs 2 and 3. This is a practi­cal way to send the signal from one device to several TVs or monitors at the same time.

Remote selection and switching of A/V inputs and outputs with the Flash Matrix
You can operate the Flash Matrix using the supplied infrared (IR) remote control.
Press two digits on the IR remote control to perform the desired input and output switching function. The first digit you enter corresponds to the desired video/audio output (1,2,3). The second digit you enter will be the desired input (1-8).
For example, if you wished to connect a DVD player from Input 5 to Output 2, you would depress the keys 2,5 in that order.
When the first numeric key has been pressed to select the desired video/audio output, a blue LED channel input indicator on the front panel of the Flash Matrix will blink. Once you select the desired A/V input, this indicator will stop blinking to confirm your selection.
If you prefer, you can also use the CH+ and CH- keys on the IR remote control to step through and select input channels once an output channel has been entered with a numeric key.
RS-232 Control and Multiple Unit Operation
The Flash Matrix can be controlled remotely through its RS-232 and IR ports from AMX, Crestron, and Dataton systems using standard commands.
You can operate more than one Flash Matrix at the same time by setting the rear panel four­position DIPswitch. The first two digits represent the unit number (1-15), the third digit repre­sents the video/audio output (1-3) and the fourth digit represents the video/audio input (1-8).
Example: To switch unit 8's Output 3 to Input 7, you would enter the code 0,8,3,7 followed by <Enter>. The first two digits, 08, represent the unit number, 3 are the output, and 7 is the input.
