Procedure for Proving LV Systems are Dead
For your safety please read and follow each step carefully!
STEP 1
Check with the user that it is
OK to isolate the circuit.
STEP 2
Visually inspect the
voltage detector
and proving unit
that they are not
damaged in any way.
STEP 3
Prove your
voltage
detector is
working using
your proving
unit.
STEP 5
Re-test your
voltage detector
using your
proving unit.
Make sure that
your voltage
detector is
working.
STEP 6
Replace the
cover on the
circuit board and
lock off.
STEP 4
Test the circuit
you wish
to isolate is
powered off
by checking
line-neutral,
line-earth and
neutral-earth.
STEP 7
Test again on the circuit being worked
on. In the case of a ring main, test at
the socket and then test the voltage
tester in the proving unit again, to
conrm isolation.
STOP!!!
If the voltage detector fails to
operate correctly when used
with the proving unit remove
it from service and start the
procedure again with another
voltage detector.
