Unpacking

Unpack the unit carefully and make sure that all accesso
ries are put aside so they will not be lost.
Examine the unit for any possibility of shipping damage, if
your unit is damaged or fails to operate, notify your dealer
immediately. If your unit was shipped to you directly, notify the shipping company without delay. Only the consignee (the person or company receiving the unit) can file a claim against the carrier for shipping damage.
We recommend that you retain the original carton and
packing materials for use should you transport or ship the unit in the future.

This unit operates on 110-1 20 or 220-240 volts AC. The AC voltage selector switch Type A or Type B on the rear pane! is set to the voltage that prevails in the area to which the unit is
shipped. Before connecting the power cord to your AC outlet, make sure that the setting position of this switch matches your line voltage. If not, it must be set to your voltage in accordance with the following direction.

Please read all of the safety and operating instructions before operating this unit. For best results, follow ail warnings placed on the unit and adhere to the operating and use instructions. These safety and operating instruc tions should be retained for future reference.
1. Power sources "The unit should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions or as marked on the appliance.
2, Power-cord protection - Power-supply cords should
be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, pay particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience
receptacles, and the point where they exit from the unit.
Never puil or stretch the cord.
3. Grounding or polarisation - The precautions should be taken so that the grounding or polarization means
of this unit is not defeated.
7. Heat “The unit should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other units (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
8. Electric shock ~ Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquid is not spilled into the enclosure through openings, If a metal object such as a hair pin or a needle, comes into contact with the inside of this unit a dangerous electric shock may result. For families with children, never permit children to put anything, especially metal, inside this unit
4. Ventilation “The unit should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper
ventilation.
To maintain good ventilation, do not put records or a table-cloth on the unit. Place the unit at least 1 0 cm away from the walls.
Do not use the unit on a bed, sofa, rug or similar
surface that may block the ventilation openings.
5. Water and moisture-The unit should not be used near water - for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a swimming pool, etc.
9. Enclosure removal - Never remove the enclosure. If the internal parts are touched accidentally, a serious electric shock might occur.
10. Magnetic fields - Keep the unit away from sources of magnetic fields such as TV sets, speaker systems, radios, motorized toys or magnetized objects.
11. Cleaning - Do not use volatile solvents such as alco hol, paint thinner, gasoline, or benzine, etc. to clean the cabinet. Use a clean dry cloth.

12. Carts and stands-An appHance and cart combina tion should be moved with care. Quick stops, exces sive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appli ance and cart combination to overturn.
13. Nonuse periods-The power cord of the unit should
be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period of time,

D. The unit does not appear to operate normally or

E. The unit has been dropped, or the enclosure damaged.
16. Servicing - The user should not attempt to service the unit beyond that described in the operating instructions. Ail other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.
17. Outdoor antenna grounding - If an outside antenna
is connected to the receiver, be sure the antenna system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built up static charges.
Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANS!/-
NFPA No. 70- 1984, provides information with re
spect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting
structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna
discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location
of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding
electrodes, and requirements for the grounding elec
trode. See Figure.

Handling
Hold a compact disc so that you do
not touch the playing surface.

Cleaning

If fingerprints or foreign matter become attached to the disc, lightly wipe the disc with a soft
cotton cloth (or similar} from the
center of the disc outwards in a radial manner. Never use chemical solvents, such as thinner, benzine, etc. and con ventional record cieanersor aero sols.
Storage
When a disc is not to be played for a long period of time, remove it from the CD player and store it in
its case.
The 8 cm CD adaptor on sale cannot be used with this unit If it is used with this unit it is possible that the disc or CD player will be damaged. ® In the case of CDV, the time display'and music calendar
display are all for the audio section only.
® If it is required to place CD single discs using a
magazine, please purchase and use the optional CDM­608 CD single disc magazine.

Beware of condensation

When water vapor comes into contact with the surface of cold material, water drops are produced.
If condensation occurs, correct operation may not be possible, or the unit may not function correctly.
This is not a malfunction, however, and the unit should be
dried. (To do this, turn the POWER switch ON and leave, the unit as it is for several hours.)
Be especially careful in the following conditions:
® When the unit is brought from a cold place to a warm
place, and there is a large temperature difference.
• When a heater starts operating,
• When the unit is brought from an air-conditioned place to a place of high temperature with high humidity.
® When there is a large difference between the internal
temperature of the unit and the ambient temperature, or In conditions where condensation occurs easily.

System connections

Do not plug the AC power cord into the outlet until all connections are completed. Connect the output Jacks of this unit to the input Jacks of the amplifier using audio cords. Refer to the Instruction manual provided with your amplifier to ensure proper connection.

1. Be sure to connect the connection cordis) securely. If connec tions are not made securely, sound may not be produced ■ and/or noise may be generated. Improper connections can also cause player misoperation.
2. Before plugging/unplugging connection cords, be sure to switch the power off and set the amplifier's volume control to its minimum position. If connection cords are plugged or unplugged without carry ing out the above precautions, malfunction or damage may result.

System control connections

System control connection

When connected to an amplifier having KENWOOD SYS TEM CONTROL terminals, system operation such as remote control is made possible. For details, refer to the instruction manual of the amplifier.
if your amplifier is not equipped with the SYSTEM CONTROL terminals, do not connect anything to any SYSTEM CONTROL terminai.
Do not connect the unit in any system configuration other than specified.
® Be sure to insert the system control cord plugs fully Into
the SYSTEM CONTROL termináis.
® If the system control cord and audio cords are not
connected properly, the automatic system governing
remote control and system functions will not operate.

M CCRS recording

1. Select the CD input with the input selector switch of the amplifier or receiver,
2. Load a CD into the CD player.
3. Insert the tape to be used for recording into the cassette deck.
4. Select the desired DISC No. to record on the cassette deck by the DISC SELECTOR keys on this unit.
5. Press the CCRS key on the cassette deck.

1. In PGM (program) mode, CCRS recording cannot be per formed.
2. CCRS recording cannot be performed for multiple play of
many discs. For each disc, perform the operations given in procedures 4 and 5,

By connecting the SYSTEM CONTROL jack of this unit with the IXS]'' SYSTEM CONTROL jack of a KENWOOD cassette deck, CCRS recording can be carried out. The CCRS function is used when recording from a compact disc to a tape in a cassette deck, and operates to adjust the cassette deck's recording level to the optimum setting according to the playing level of the compact disc.
For details on the CCRS function, refer to the ihstruction manual provided with your cassette deck. "CCRS" appears on the display window.

® The pause indicator will light and the play will stop at
that point.

REPEAT key

M To play from a desired disc

Select the desired disc No. by pressing the DISC SELEC TOR key,
« Play starts from the first tune of the disc selected. When
the disc has been played, the disc of the next disc No. will be played, and when all discs have been played, the player enters the stop mode.
® If there is no disc in the selected disc No. the next disc
No. will be selected automatically.
® When the DISC SELECTOR key is pressed during play,
the play stops. At this time, the disc No. display shows the disc No. selected.
® Once the indicator of a key has gone out, the key has no
effect even when it is pressed again.

H Forward and reverse searching

During play you can search forward (or backward) at high
speed by pressing the SEARCH keys.

M To play from a specified track

Select a desired track No. by pressing the numeric keys (1 to 0, +■ 10). If the track No. consists of 2 digits, be sure to first select the ten's digit
* The selected track No. is displayed, the play indicator
lights, and then the track is located and played.
® If the selected track No. is larger than the last track No.
on the disc, the last track will be played automatically.

WTo repeat play

When the REPEAT key is pressed once, player enters the one disc repeat mode, and when the REPEAT key is pressed twice, the repeat function will be canceled.
»'When one of these keys is pressed during play you will
hear a cueing sound as the pickup moves forward or backward across the disc. If you release the key refer ring to this sound, normal play will be returned from that point.

Programmed play (Program mode)

The programmed play allows the desired tunes to be played in the desired order. The maximum of 32 selections specified from disc numbers of 1 to 6, and track numbers of 1 to 99 can be put into memory.

To check the program contents, press the CHECK key, ® Each time the CHECK key is pressed,.the disc No. and
track No. of the next selection in the program will be displayed.
® The previous display resumes about 4 seconds after the
CHECK key is pressed.

H To modify the program

© In programmed play mode, continue to press the
CHECK key until the track No, to be modified appears. The program can be modified while jP.C.i is blinking.

Auto SPACE function
When in the program mode, interval with no sound of­about 4 seconds are created between the programmed tracks. This function is for making use of the DPSS system on the cassette deck.
If all disc program has been selected for a particular program number. 4 seconds interval are not inserted
during play of tracks of that disc.

with a DISC SELECTOR key.

H To clear the whole program

All of the program contents is cleared if any of following happens. © When program mode is canceled by pressing the
P-MODE key {so that the PGM indicator goes off).
© When the CLEAR key is pressed for the same number
of times as the number of selections in the program.
@ When the POWER switch is switched OFF.

® At the moment the CLEAR key is pressed once, the
final selection in the program is cleared.
® By pressing the CLEAR key several times in se
quence, the program contents can be cleared in a backward sequence from the final selection,
® The track being played cannot be erased from the
program with the CLEAR key.
® The CLEAR key does not function during checking
the program contents.

When the REPEAT key is pressed once in programmed play mode, the entire program will be played repeatedly. When the REPEAT key is pressed twice, the repeat function will be canceled.

the track mode).

M To start programmed play

Random playing

This function allows for random selection of the tracks from one or ail discs and continuous playing in any order. It is
particularly useful for playing so that people will not get tired of the same sequence of music when hearing it for a long time.
(Random play cannot function in PGM mode )

CD Edit recording

This function allows to edit tracks on a disc to a accommodate them within the recording time of a specific tape so that they can be recorded efficiently without any waste of the tape.

® While the EDIT indicator is lit, enter the recording time
of the tape to be used for recording with the numeric keys. ® With a C“60 tape, press the I +10 j key six times then
press the key once.
® With a C-46 tape, press the 1 +10j key four times then
press the key once.

Editing is executed as follows.

© The set recording time is divided by two, and tracks
which can be accommodated in file A (for tape side A) are edited and programmed in the order of their track Nos.
© Next, the tracks for file B {for tape side B} are also
edited in the same manner.
@ Start recording on the cassette deck.
Put the cassette deck in the record mode, and start playing the CD.

M To check conterits of edited program

Press the CHECK key.
® Each time the CHECK key is pressed there after, the
track numbers are displayed from the first one on in the
order they were edited.

m To erase an edited program

AH the contents of edited program will be erased if you perform any of the following operations:
© Pressing the play mode selector and selecting other
than program mode.
© Pressing the EJECT key m
© Pressing the CLEAR key repeatedly until all the tracks
are cleared in the program,
© Turning off the power.
