AFIT—Active Fuel Injector Tester FMU—Fuel Management Unit
DLC—Diagnostic Link Connector MCU—Main Control Unit
—Testing—
1. Connect the tester to
the vehicle
• DLC Connection
• Direct Connection
2. Hang the FMU vertically from
the vehicle’s hood
3. Connect the MCU to power
• 12V power adapter
• Battery hookup
4. Insert the drain hose into an
approved fuel container
(min. 16 oz.)
5. Turn the MCU on
6. Press ENTER to continue to Vehicle
Selection
7. Select a vehicle
8. Select a test
• Injector Test
• Pressure Test
• Leak Down Test
9. View the test results
• On-screen
• Upload to a computer
—DLC Connection—
Used with most vehicles, this connection controls the injectors and the fuel
pump through the DLC. Use this hookup when using the vehicle’s diagnostic
link for injector control. This connection does n ot require the use of the
injector harness.
IMPOR TANT
Hang the FMU vertica lly
from v ehicle’s hoo d
1. Connect the 10’ serial cable to the MCU and the DLC adapter.
2. Connect the DLC adapter to the vehicle’s OBDII connector.
3. Connect the Fuel Schrader Connector to the vehicle’s fuel rail at the fuel
test port.
—Direct Injector Connection—
This connection directly controls the injectors from the MCU. The fuel pump is
controlled through the DLC connector. Use this hookup when testing vehicles
that do not suppor t diagnostic link injector control. You must the use the
injector harness with this connection. However, do not connect the injector
harness until instructed to by AFIT.
IMPORTANT
If t he engine is hot, or after cl eaning the injec tors, make sure you allow for
a coo l down period bef ore you begin test ing. A h ot soake d engine condition
may affec t the test re sults.
—Connecting the Tester to Power—

J-Cab les to c onnect t he MCU
to th e vehicle’s i njectors
1. Connect the 10’ serial cable to the MCU and the DLC adapter.
2. Connect the DLC adapter to the vehicle’s OBDII connector.
3. Connect the Fuel Schrader Connector to the vehicle’s fuel rail at the fuel
test port.
4. Connect the injector harness (or J-Cable adapter and cable, depending
on vehicle) to the MCU and the vehicle’s injectors. IMPORTANT! Do not
perform this step until instruc ted to by AFIT (the unit will prompt for the
correct injector harness or J-Cable adapter and cable).
Note: To correctly match test results to the i njector, always use the injector
locator function on a d irect connection hookup.
When usin g the option al kits for older GM an d other manufacturers’
vehicles, direc t hookup to the fuel pump circuit may be required. See the
AFIT User Guide for detail s.

You can view the results of the last completed test by navigating to, and
selecting, View Test Results. Press UP and DOWN to scroll through the
following results:
• Injector Balance Graph • Injector Balance Table
• Injector Flow Graph • Injector Flow Table
• Vehicle Information
DLC co nnections results are disp layed as Injector 1, 2, 3 etc. corresponding
to engine cylind er numbers. Direc t connection results are displa yed as
Inje ctor A, B, C etc. and the Injector Lo cator should be u sed to match the
resul ts to the in jector.
IMPORTANT!
Results from test to test on the same engine can vary by+/-3%. Small
test to test result variations should not be a source of concern. Consult the
Service Information/Shop Manual for information on test results that should
be of concern.
—Uploading Test Data to the Shop Computer—
Before you begin, make sure the software is installed on the computer. Also,
if you need to use the USB serial por t adapter, make sure to install the USB
serial port adapter software driver included on the AFIT CD.

—Viewing Results on the Shop Computer—
After uploading test data to the shop computer, you can view the results
of any saved test by navigating to, and selecting, Customer/Vehicle Info
Search. Select the line for the customer or vehicle you wish to view. By
default, the most recent upload is displayed.
DLC co nnection results are displ ayed as Injector 1, 2, 3 e tc. corre sponding to
