Grounding Requirements
|H PORTANT: Please read carefully.
To Connect Electricity
FOR PERSONAL SAFETY, this appliance must be
properly grounded.
The power cord of this appliance is equipped
with a three-prong
(grounding) plug which
mates with a standard
three-prong (grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard fiom this appliance.
Have the wall outlet and the circuit chedced by a qualified
electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded.
Preferred Method
Insure proper ground exists before use°
If the outlet is a standard two-prong wall outlet, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded three-prong
wall outlet. The refrigerator should always be plugged into its own
individual electrical oudet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating plate. This provides the best
performance and also prevents overloading house
wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from
overheated wires.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUHSTANCES, CUT OR REHOVE THE THIRD (GROUND)
PRONG FROMTHE POWER CORD.
Grounding Requirements
Use of Extension Cords
Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly recommend against the use
of an extension cord, However; if you still elect to use an extension cord, it is absolutely necessaly that it be a UL-listed, 3-wire grounding type appliance extension
cord having a grounding type plug and outlet and that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes
(minimum) and 120 volts.
Refrigerator Installation
Clearances
Allow the following clearances for ease of installation,
proper air circtflation, and plumbing and electrical connections:
B
Use of an extension cord will increase the clearance needed for the back of the refrigerator.

Trim Kits and Decorator
For Built-In models
Some models a_e equipped with trim Idts that allow you
to install door panels° You can order pre-cut black or'
white decorator panels from your Seais Service Center, or you can add wood panels to match your kitchen cabinets°
Panels Less Than !14" (6 mm) Thick
When installing wood panels less than 1/4" (6 ram) thick, you need to create a filler pane!, such as 1/8"
cardboard, that will fit between the face of the door and the wood panel. If you are installing the pre-cut
decorator panels, pre-cut filler panels are included in the Idto The combined thiclmess of the decorator or
wood panel and the filler panel should be 1/4" (6 mm)o
To make the doors even, adjust the flesh
food door_ Insert a 3/16" Allen wrench into the bottom of
the hinge pin. Turn the door adjusting screw to the right to raise the door, to the left to lower it. (A nylon plug, imbedded in the threads of the pin, prevents the pin from turning unless a wrench is used°) After one or two turns of the wrench, open and close rile fresh food
door and check the alignment at the top of the doors.
Panel Installadon
314" (19 mm) or Raised Panel
A raised panel design screwed or glued to a I/4"
(6 ram) thick bactdng, or a 3/4" (t9 mm) routed board can be used. The raised portion of the panel must be fabricated to permit clearances of at least 2" (51 ram) from the handle side for fingertip clearance.
Weight limitations for custom panels:
Fresh Food: 35 lb. (I6 kg) max, Freezer Door: 25 lb. (11 kg) max.
1/4" (6 ram)
Thick Backing
Care of Pre-Cut Panels
Cleaaa these panels using an anti-static cleaner or a mild detergent and water° (Look for' anti-static cleaner in electronic or computer' departments°) Rinse
thoroughly and blot dry with a clean, damp cloth or chamois° Do not use paper towels to wash or dry the panels. Do not use cleaners that contain solvents, such
as ammonia, because they can damage the panels. Shallow scratches arid abrasions can be corrected with
a good grade of hard automobile paste wax° Do not use a cleanedwax combination. The wax wil! fill in any
minor surface scratches and will help to maintain the luster of the panels. Apply the wax sparingly and buff lightly with a clean, soft cloth using a circular motion.

Water Line mnstallation Instructions
Before You Begin:
° If the water supply to the refrigerator is fi'om a
Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System and the refrigerator is equipped with a built-in filtration
system, it is not necessary to use the refrigerator's
water filter, Use the refiigerator's Filter Bypass Plug_
Using the refrigerator's water filtration cartridge in conjunction with the RO filter can result in hollow ice cubes and slower water flow from the water
dispenser_
This water line installation is not warranted by the refrigerator or icemaker manufacturer. Follow these instructions carefully to minimize the risk of
expensive water damage_
o Water hammer (water banging in the pipes) in house
plumbing can cause damage to refrigerator parts and lead to water' leakage or flooding. Call a qualified
plumber to correct water hammer before installing the water supply line to the refrigerator_
o To prevent burns and product damage, do not hook
up the water Iine to the hot water lineo
° If you use your refrigerator befbre connecting the
water line, make sure the icemaker feeler arm is kept in the STOP (up) position_
DO NOT install the icemaker tubing in areas where temperatures fall below freezing°
° When using any electrical device (such as a power'
drill) during installation, be sure the device is
insulated or wired in a manner to prevent the hazard of electric shock_
M1 installations must be in accordance with local plumbing code requirements°
WhatYou WRI Need
To determine how much copper tubing you need:
Measure the distance fiom the water valve on die back of the refrigerator to the water' supply pipe, Then add
8 feet (244 cm), Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing
[about 8 feet (244 cm) coiled into 3 turns of about !0
inches (25 cm) diametel] to allow the iefrigerator to move out from the wall after' installation,
A water supply kit (containing copper tubing,
shutoff valve and fittings listed below) is available at extra cost from your Sears store oK'Seas Selvice Center;
Cold water supply. The water' pressure must be
between 40 and 120 p.s.i.
° Power drill.
° Copper tubing, 1/4" outer diameter to connect the
refrigerator to the water supply. Be sure both ends of the tubing are cut squale.
DO NOT use plastic tubing or plastic fittings because the water supply line is under pressure at all times. Certain types of plastic tubing may become brittle with ageand crack, resulting in water leakage.
Two 114" outer diameter compression nuts and
2 ferrules (sleeves)_to connect the copper tubing to the shutoffvalve and the refrigerator water' valve.
° If your existing water line has a flaked fitting at the
end, you will need an adapter (available at plumbing supply stores) to connect the water line to the
refrigerator OR you can cut off the flared fitting with a tube cutter and then use a compression fitting,
° Shutoff valve to connect to the cold water line. The
shutoffvalve should have a water inlet with a minimum inside diameter' of 5/32" at the point of
connection to the COLDWATER LINE. Saddle-type
shutoffvalves ate included in many water supply kits. Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-type valve complies with your local plumbing codes.
Shut Off the Hain Water Supply.

Fresh Food Storage Tips
To store unfrozen meats, fish and poultry=
Always remove store wrappings.
Rewrap in foil, film or wax paper and refrigerate
immediately
To store cheese, wrap well with wax paper or aluminum foil, or put in a plastic bag.
Carefully wrap to expel air and help prevent mol&
Store pre-packaged cheese in its own wrapping if you wish.
To store vegetables, use the vegetable drawers-- they've been designed to preserve the natural moisture

Covering vegetables with a moist towel helps maintain crispness.
As a further aid to freshness, pte-packaged vegetables can be stored in their original wrapping.
Tips on Freezing Foods
o Freeze only top-quality foods. Freezing retains
quality and flavor; it cannot improve quality.
° Freeze fruits and vegetables quicldy after piddng.
The sooner you do, the better the frozen product will
be, with less culling and sorting to do.
* Use food wraps designed especially for freezing. To store ice cream--Fine-quality ice cream, with high
cream content, will normally require slightly lower temperatures than more "airy" already-packaged brands
with low cream content.
° It will be necessary to experiment to determine the
freezer compartment location and temperature control setting to keep your ice cream at the right
serving temperature°
° The rear of the freezer compartment is slightly colder'
than the frontr
To freeze meat, fish and poultry, wrap well in freezer-weight foil (or other heaw-duty wrapping material) forming it carefully to the shape of the contents. This expels air. Fold and crimp ends of the package to provide a good, lasting seat.
Don't refreeze meat that has completely thawed; meat, whether raw or cooked, can be frozen
successfully only once.

Convenience Center
The Convenience Center consists of an automatic
icemaker, an ice & water dispenser and a special
compartment with its own door that becomes a
counter' when you open it. Frequently used items stored
on the fresh food door are readily accessible through the Convenience Center

Throw away the first few batches of ice cubes (16 or
24 cubes), This wi_ flush away any impurities in the
water line. Do the same thing after vacations or
extended periods when ice isn't used°
To make sure the bin fills with ice, level the cubes
occasionally. When cubes fall into the bin they may pile
up close to the icemaker and push the feeler arm to the STOP (up) position before the bin gets full. Keeping the
cubes level allows the icemaker to fill the bin.
The icemaker ejects cubes in groups of 8, and it is normal for several cubes to be joined together:

bulb when it burns out..
CAUTION: Never put fingers or any other objects into the ice crusher discharge
opening.
Important Facts AboutYour Dispenser
* Add ice before filling the glass with a beverage. * Do not add ice flom trays or bags to the storage bin°
It may not crush or dispense welt.
o Avoid overfilling glass with ice and use of narrow
or extra-tall glasses. Backed-up ice can jam the chute or cause the door' in the chute to freeze shut.
If'ice is blocldng the chute, poke it through with a
wooden spoon.
, Beverages and fi_ods should not be quick-chilled in the
ice storage bin. Cans, bottles or food packages in the
storage bin may cause the icemaker or auger to jam.
, Some crushed ice may be dispensed even though
you selected CUBED ICEo This happens occasionally when a few cubes accidentally get directed to the
crusher.
* After crushed ice is dispensed, some water may drip
flom the chute,
* Sometimes a mound of snow will form on the door
in the ice chute. This condition is normal and usually occurs when you have dispensed crushed ice
repeatedly. The snow will eventually evaporate.
* Dispensed water' is not ice coldo For colder water, add
crushed ice or cubes before dispensing water:
