Introduction
1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Kanguru USB2.0 DVDRW drive with LightScribe from Kanguru Solutions!
The Kanguru DVDRW drive provides high speed DVD and CD burning for PC, Mac and Netbook users. Dual Layer technology allows you to burn nearly twice as much data (up to 8.5GB) to a single disc, allowing you to create high quality DVDs.
Simply plug the drive into an available USB port for instant access to a 24x DVD/RW drive.
These high-speed USB2.0 DVDRWs are a great way to add the ability to burn DVDs and CDs to your computer. The Kanguru DVDRW utilizes USB2.0 connectivity, providing plug and play ability and speeds 40 times faster than USB1.1. This allows you to take advantage of some of the fastest burn speeds ever! Discs are created with “Burn Proof Free” technology to ensure fast, accurate burns.
Note: In order to reach USB 2.0 speed, you must have a computer or host adapter card that has USB
2.0 support. This device will automatically sense the speed of your USB port and adjust between USB
1.0 and USB 2.0 speed. If you do not have USB 2.0 support, the device will work at USB 1.1 speeds. Kanguru Solutions carries a wide variety of USB 2.0 PCI cards, adapters, and hubs should the need arise.

2.1 Use with Windows Vista / 7 / 8
The Kanguru DVDRW does not require any driver files for use with Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating systems. These operating systems already have builtin drivers that support USB connection with the Kanguru DVDRW. Simply connect your Kanguru DVDRW to your PC and turn it on. Windows will automatically detect the new hardware and install the appropriate driver. When the installation has completed successfully, you will find a “DVD/CDRW Drive” icon displayed under My Computer.
Turn on the power to your drive and you will see a new “DVD/CD-RW Drive” icon in My Computer. Current Windows operating systems come with the ability to burn CD and DVDs through Windows Explorer. Please refer to Microsoft Windows’ documentation for instructions on burning CDs and DVDs.
To properly disconnect the drive from your computer, click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon located in the taskbar. This will allow you to select any removable devices that you have connected to your computer. Select the drive that you want to remove and Windows will alert you when it is safe to remove the device.
WARNING! Do not unplug the Kanguru DVDRW from the USB port of your computer or hub while copying files to or from the device or while files or applications stored on the Kanguru DVDRW are in use. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF DATA.

General Operation
2.2 Use with Macintosh OS X 10.3 and later
Mac OS X 10.3 and later have a built-in driver to support the Kanguru DVDRW. Simply plug in the Kanguru DVDRW to your Mac and the operating system will automatically install the necessary driver. Once the driver has been installed a CD/DVD icon will appear on your desktop whenever a CD or DVD is inserted into the drive.
Note: The CD or DVD icon will only appear on your desktop when a CD or DVD is inserted in the drive. You will not see a CD or DVD drive icon on your desktop if there’s no CD or DVD present.
To properly eject a disc from the drive, drag the CD/DVD icon from your desktop to the trash bin. This will safely eject the disc from the drive. Once the dic has been removed you can safely disconnect your Kanguru DVDRW. Your system may freeze up or give you an error message if you remove the device without properly stopping it first.
WARNING! Do not unplug the Kanguru DVDRW from the USB port of your computer or hub while copying files to or from the device or while files or applications stored on the Kanguru DVDRW are in use. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF DATA.
