KANE & ROACH HEW IMPROVED ANGLE BENDERS
TO? ROUSING - High strength alloy iron, extra heavy solid casting, designed
to take the direct load of the thro© bending rolls
.
LOWER BASE HOUSING *• High strength alloy Iron, extra heavy solid casting -•
houses the lower roll shaft and intermediate gear shaft bearings,
This
housing at the same time forms base for the Bending Roll Unit,
FRAME - Close grained gray iron, of box form construction, connects top
housing and lower bass housing, and also encloses roll
shaft and train gears
and provides a substantial tie for connecting the bop and lower housings into
a complete unit,
SWING ARM ~ Cast steel; the adjustable roll lhaf
t is housed in this swing
arm
and a ball thrust bearing is pro*vided at the pivot shaft to facilitate case o
adjustments
NOTE: The high strength alloy referred
had
a
stencile strength of from 40,000 to 45,000 PSI, and
deflection around ,25 as against oj
to
above, paragraph 1 -
dinary iron with tensile
strength of 24,000 to 28,000 PSI and deflection of .16.
This iron is dense, close grained, .ough structure, with
machinability comparable to a high grade cast iron,
ADJUSTING SCREW - Special alloy steel, heat treated,
ADJUSTING SCREW HOOK - Cast steel, pivoted on the e?;d of the adjusting screw,
sjo
it can be swung out of engagement with the awing aim for quick outward
adjustment of the swing arm, to permit removal from the roll passes of sectio;
having a deep leg or flange, without the necessity cf changing the setting of
the adjusting screw.
SCALE AND POINTER - Are provided, for recording adjustable roll setting,
facilitating resetting when changing from one setting be another,
The pointer
is attached to the swing arm and moves along a stationary scale.
COMBINATION CONTROL PLATES AND SIDE ROLLS - Ref. Photo '.82.
CONTROL PLATES - Special analysis cast steel, with inserted
tool steel hardened front face..
When the diameter of the stock being bent
is smaller than minimum-
diameter o-'the side
roll range, the use of control pi?; ves, fitting
close into the point of bending, .::lvas control
impossible on a machine with plain aide rolls.,
SIDE ROLLS - Tool steel, hardened and ground, mounte< in control
plates, quiekly removable.
ADJUSTMENT OP COMBINATION CONTROL PLATES - On both the hoh.Kontal and vertical
plane is provided.
CENTER PLATE - With hardened front face is provided. This p'iate (patened

PRODUCTION - approximately 30 feet per minute.
LEG-IN EQUIPMENT - Angles - when bending angles to relatively small
diameter circles,
bent with the leg in - we recommend our leg-in equip
ment (patent pending), Leg-In Equipment includes special rolls which
are used v/ith and are in addition to standard rolls which are quoted with
the machine.
Leg-In Equipment is designed to provide an edge bearing against the leg
of the angle bent in, therefore, relieving the excessive strain on the
leg being bent on the flat.
A taper roll plate Is used in order to offset the natural tendency of the
legs of the angle to go out of true less than 90 degrees, and to maintain
the inside leg parallel to a straight edge laid across the face of the
circle.
This equipment gives a quality of angle which vie believe is unattainable
by the use of stretcher finger or any other method, and permits bending a
given size angle with the leg on the inside of the circle to a much
smaller diameter than was possible heretofore
.
Leg-In Equipment includes four "double sided outer edge bearing plates”.
Each
plate will permit the handling of two size angles in one thickness
or one size in two thicknesses.
A total of eight sizes can be handled
in the equipment.
PF4-3-48-3000
Additional double sided edge bearing plates can be furnished at a nominal
cost or if four double sided outer edge bearing plates are not furnished,
a deduction will be allowed for those not needed.
