NOTES ON USING THE KAM KEQ152 HIFI GRAPHIC EQUALISER
Prior to first switching on, set all controls to mid-position. Disengage the buttons EQ ON. Switch on the
KEQ152, if there is a humming due to a hum loop (e.g. ground connection from the housing via the rack
to another housing), set the ground lift switch to FLOAT. This will separate the signal ground from the
housing ground. Pass an input signal to the KEQ152, if one of the PEAK LEDs lights up, reduce the
input levels of both channels.
NOTES ON FREQUENCY RANGES
The range of average human hearing reaches from approx 20Hz to 20KHz. The greatest sensitivity is
between approx 1 and 4KHz. Therefore changes of the KEQ152 can be heard more clearly in this range
than changes in the high and low frequencies. CAUTION: With extensive boosting of the frequency band
levels (mainly the bass and top ranges), speakers may be quickly overloaded and destroyed. Additional
equalisers in your system e.g. the amplifier, must first be set to zero (mid position).
The individual controls for the frequency levels should separately be adjusted as follows.
Subwoofer range 25Hz / 40Hz: These really only control non music frequencies like turntable rumble and
subsonic noise. They should be slided into the lower (negative) range when adjusting.
Bass range 63Hz / 100Hz / 160Hz / 250Hz: Many musical instruments have their frequencies in this
range. If boosted too much, there is a thick, muddy sound. If it is attenuated too much, there is a thin
weak sound. If the speakers are unfavourably placed, (e.g. too close to walls), the bass can be boosted
too much, therefore can be equalised using the KEQ152.
Mid range 400Hz / 630Hz / 1KHz / 1.6KHz / 2.5KHz: In this range, the human hearing is most
sensitive. Therefore the equaliser adjustment is most likely to be used at these frequencies. In dance
and pop music boosting these signals can give a more aggressive effect, especially good for improving
the voice intelligibility.
Tweeter range 4KHz / 6.3KHz / 10KHz: In this range are many of the harmonics of the music input. As
soft materials (e.g. carpet) can reduce these signals, these sometimes need boosting to restore the
original sound.
Super Tweeter range 16KHz: This is most useful for filtering out interfering noises (e.g. hiss).
