Retain instructions
Retain the safety and operating instructions for future reference.
Heed Warnings
Observe all the warnings on the unit and in the operating instructions.
Follow Instructions
Follow all operation/use instructions.
Cleaning
Unplug the unit from the power outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
Attachments
Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer. They might cause hazards.
Use only with accessories recommended by the manufacturer or sold with the product.
Water and Moisture
Do not use this unit near water. For example:
• Near a bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub.
• In a wet basement.
• Near a swimming pool.

Installation and Operation Manual
Ventilation
Openings in the enclosure, if any, are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the
unit and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered.
This unit should not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided. Do not
place directly on other hot equipment that may increase its operating temperature.
Power Sources
This unit should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If
unsure of the type of power supply to use, consult an appliance dealer or a local power company.
For units intended to operate from battery power or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.
Grounding and Polarization
This unit may be equipped with a polarized AC line plug having one blade wider than the other. This
plug fits into the power outlet in only one way.
This is a safety feature. If unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the
plug still fails to fit, contact an electrician to replace the outlet.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
Alternatively, this unit may be equipped with a three-wire grounding-type plug (a plug having a third pin
for grounding). This plug fits only a grounding-type power outlet.
This is a safety feature. If unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact an electrician to replace the
outlet.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug.
Power Cord Protection
Power cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed
upon or against them.
Pay particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from
the appliance.
Power Lines
An outdoor system should not be located near overhead power lines (or other electric light or power
circuits), or where it might fall into such power lines or circuits.
When installing an outdoor system, take extreme care not to touch power lines or circuits. Contact
with them might be fatal.
Overloading
Do not overload outlets and extension cords. This can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
Object and Liquid Entry
Never push objects of any kind into this unit through openings. They might touch dangerous voltage
points or cause short circuits, possibly resulting in a fire or electric shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the unit.

Installation and Operation Manual
Adjustments
If the unit does not operate normally by following the operating instructions:
• Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions.
• Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage, or void the warranty, and often
requires extensive work by a qualified technician to correct.
Servicing
Do not attempt to service this unit. Opening or removing covers may expose dangerous voltage or
other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Damage Requiring Service
Unplug the unit from the outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following
conditions:
• When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.
• If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the unit.
• If the unit has been exposed to rain or water.
• If the unit has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
• When the unit exhibits a distinct change in performance, this indicates a need for service.
Replacement Parts
When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used parts specified by the
manufacturer, or that they have the same characteristics. Unauthorized substitutions may result in
fire, electric shock, or other hazards.
Safety Check
Upon completion of any service or repairs to this unit, ask the service technician to perform safety
checks to determine that the unit is in proper operating condition.
Coaxial Cable Grounding
If an outside cable system is connected to the unit, be sure the cable system is grounded.
Lightning
For added protection of this unit during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for
long periods, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the cable system. This can prevent damage
to the unit due to lightning and power-line surges.

2 INITIAL CONSIDERATIONS
2.1 Product Description
The CBR-KB3 series of remote keyboards are accessories for the Calibur 10, and 16 channel range of
multiplexers as well as the MMX (multiplexer / matrix) units and DVMR (digital video multiplexer /
recorder) units. It allows the user to set up a centrally controlled system of up to 32 devices, with
telemetry controlled (PTZ) cameras.
A CBR-KB3 keyboard can control up to 31 Calibur multiplexers and up to 992 telemetry cameras.
Multiple keyboards can be used on the same network, allowing multiple operators to control the same
set of multiplexers and telemetry cameras.
The CBR-KB3 network is based on industry standard RS-422 and RS-485 communications links, and
so, simple cabling and extended distances between devices is standard.
The CBR-KB3 remote keyboard is housed in a rugged desktop enclosure with a full tactile feedback
elastomeric keypad. A joystick version (the CBR-KB3/J) is also available and supports the use of
variable speed telemetry systems. Contact a distributor for current equipment compatibility.
2.2 Installation Site Considerations
AC Power
Ensure that the AC power supply to which the external DC power supply is connected is stable,
and is within 10% of the rated voltage.
If the power source is likely to have excessive spikes or power dips, power line conditioning, or a
UPS should be considered, to avoid possible power resets or damage to the unit.
Ventilation
Ensure that the location planned for the installation of the unit is well ventilated.
Take note of the locations of the cooling vents in the unit’s enclosure, and ensure that they are not
obstructed in the planned installation.
Temperature
Observe the unit’s ambient temperature specifications when choosing an installation site.
Extremes of heat or cold beyond the specified operating temperature limits may cause the unit to
fail or to be damaged.
Other Equipment
Do not install the unit in cabinets with, or immediately above, or adjacent to equipment that may
cause ambient temperatures around the unit to exceed the operating temperature limits for the
unit.
