JVC Releases Alneo XA-HD500 Studio Quality Digital Audio Player
Featuring JVC’s Unique Audio Quality Enhancing Technology

Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (JVC) will release the alneo XA-HD500 digital audio player featuring
JVC’s unique K2 technology and the studio tuning for high fidelity reproduction of compressed music
files. The XA-HD500 has a built-in 1-inch hard drive and is capable of a world-leading approximately
30 hours of continuous playback.

1. Studio quality digital audio player featuring JVC’s unique audio quality enhancing
technology
z The XA-HD500 is equipped with JVC's CC Converter to improve sound quality from
compressed audio files using JVC’s unique K2 Technology for creating high-fidelity sound
and featured in JVC’s Hi-Fi components. The CC Converter reclaims audio information lost
during compression to WMA or MP3 format, enabling a more natural audio playback
experience.
z Victor Studio recording engineers, who are experts in music software for original master
sound recordings, have helped design the audio tuning in the XA-HD500, combining high
fidelity the inner-ear headphones that feature powerful neodymium driver units. The
recording engineers created audio quality that faithfully reproduces the intent of the artist.

z The KS-PD500 interface adapter (sold separately; scheduled to be released in
mid-December, price not yet determined) can be used to display song information and
control the XA-HD500 when connected to a JVC car receiver that supports MP3 changer
control that supports CD texts.*

Development Concept
For the rapidly expanding digital audio player market, JVC has developed and is releasing the
XA-HD500 digital audio player with built-in hard drive. This product succeeds the XA-AL55 and
XA-MP101/51 as part of the alneo series of digital audio players with built-in memory.
The XA-HD500 has been designed to produce high fidelity sound resulting from JVC’s unique K2
Technology, audio tuning designed by Victor Studio recording engineers, and various sound effect
features. The XA-HD500 has also been designed for ease of use, as exemplified by its support for
the latest music download methods, long playback times needed in a portable device, and
convenient and enjoyable use while connected to home or car audio components. The product
targets users seeking new music styles and high quality.

1. Supports WMA/ MP3 files
The XA-HD500 is capable of storing songs in the popular WMA and MP3 music compression
formats. It also supports the latest digital rights management (DRM

) technology from Windows
Media® Technologies, supporting a new online music download style including not only
purchase, but also a membership service.

2. Comes standard with the latest Windows Media® Player 10 media software
The XA-HD500 comes standard with the latest Windows Media® Player 10 (WMP10) media
software from Microsoft®. It supports auto synchronizing of songs and playlists when connected
to a computer. In addition, for computers with WMP10 installed, the XA-HD500 can be used as
an external storage device (MTP device*

) that supports drag and drop of music and other data
files for simple storing and copying.

3. Features various sound effects
z Features Emotional Surround comprised of four music modes—ENERGY, CRYSTAL,
HEARTFUL, and SUBWAY—each with clear acoustic field characteristics that appeal to
the emotions and create an enjoyable acoustic space.
z Features Digital AHB (Active Hyper Bass) for clear and booming bass.
z The XA-HD500 features a 5-band manual equalizer for adjusting audio characteristics to
the music type, Train Mode to reduce annoying emanating sound while riding on the train,
monaural playback, and left-right balance control.
z Features two function keys that can be used to change settings such as playback mode
and various sound modes.

About K2 Technology
K2 Technology is a digital signal audio enhancing technology for eliminating non-signal noise that
affects music signals, and is used in JVC recording studios and mastering studios. K2
Technology dramatically improves audio quality for everything from high quality linear PCM used
in CD and DVD audio to compressed digital signals such as MPEG-2 AAC used in Dolby Digital,
DTS and broadcast satellite and CS digital broadcasts. K2 Technology, the JVC’s “Only One”
