Introduction

UX-N5 Compact Component system consists of the main unit (CA-UXN5) and the speaker system (SP­UXN5).

Precautions

Do not cover the ventilation openings. Doing so keep the heat to remain inside of the unit, which may cause fire. Use extra cautions about the following:

Do not place the unit on its side, upside down, or the front side facing upward.

Do not place the unit in a place such as bookshelves, closet, etc without adequate ventilation.

Preparation for Use

System Connections

After checking all the connections have been made correctly, plug the AC power lead of this unit into the wall socket.

Aerial connection
Included FM aerial
When connecting the FM areal to the main unit, connect it to the center of the FM areal terminal firmly.
Extend the FM aerial when connecting so that you can obtain the best reception.
External FM aerial (commercially available)
If the included FM aerial is unable to receive well, use an external FM aerial. When an external FM aerial is used, disconnect the included FM aerial wire.
Note
Placing the aerial on the unit, near the AC power or electronic devices lead may cause noise pickup. Move the aerial away from the AC power lead if it is located nearby.
Speaker connection

Do not connect more than 2 speakers into 1 terminal.

Do not allow the speaker wire to touch the metal part of the main unit.

Speakers of the main unit are not designed to shield magnetics. When placing this unit near a CRT television, place it away from the television to avoid color irregularity of the television.

Do not let the speaker wires touch each other.

You can connect a subwoofer with an amplifier to the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT socket.
Connecting to the external devices (TV, etc.)
This unit can output sound from external devices, such as TV, etc.
Connect to the TV using an audio cable.

On main unit, press h[SOURCE] button repeatedly until “AUX” is displayed.

On the remote control, press h[AUDIO IN/AUX] button repeatedly until “AUX” is displayed.
Connecting iPod/iPhone to TV
Video files from iPod/iPhone can be viewed by connecting the unit to TV/monitor.
Place the iPod/iPhone to the dock, and then connect the Video input terminal of the TV or monitor and the VIDEO OUT socket at the back of this unit. Then, by press and hold the [iPod DISPLAY / TV OUT] button on the remote control, set the TV out function to On. (p. 21)

To playback videos on iPod/iPhone screen, press [iPod DISPLAY/TV OUT] for more than 2 seconds, until “TV OUT OFF” is displayed.

Open the battery cover.

Insert the included battery according to the terminal indicated in the battery compartment.
Operating range of the remote control
Point the remote control directly at the remote sensor on the unit. The remote control can be used within the range shown below:

The included battery is for checking system operations. Replace it with a new one as soon as possible.

If the range or effectiveness of the remote control decreases, replace the battery.

Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote control and the sensor on the unit with a soft cloth.

Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may interfere with operations. Change the direction of the unit if this occurs.

Keep the remote control away from moisture, heat, shock, and vibrations.

Read through the attached Safety Precaution to ensure the safe usage of the batteries.

Basic Operation

Turning on the Power

Volume up/down

Turn the volume knob (on main unit) or press [VOLUME+/-] (on remote control) to increase or decrease the volume.
Volume auto fade-in
If you turn off and on the main unit with the volume set to 27 or higher, the volume starts at 16. The volume fades in to the last set level.

Press the [A] button.
Press the [A] button to enter the power standby mode.
When you press any of the following buttons, the unit turns on.

Setting the Network Standby

The first time the unit is plugged in, the unit will enter NETWORK STANDBY.

Auto power on function is activated when the main unit is set to Network Standby. (p. 11)

To cancel Network Standby, press the [DIMMER/ NETWORK STANDBY] button (remote control) during power standby mode. The unit will enter the low power consumption mode.

To return to Network Standby, press the [DIMMER/ NETWORK STANDBY] button (remote control) again.

When iPod or iPhone is connected to the iPod/ iPhone dock, battery charge starts and “Charge Mode” is displayed. NETWORK STANDBY is invalid during charge mode.
To mute the volume temporarily

Press the [MUTING] button.
“MUTING” is flashed and the sound is muted temporarily.

Press again to restore the volume.
Bass (HBS) adjustment

Press the [HBS] button.
Current HBS setup is displayed.

When the power is turned on for the first time,
Bass mode is set to ON.

Press the [HBS] button to switch the Bass
mode to ON or OFF.

Selecting a Source

Pressing the buttons for each sound source on the remote control, or the [SOURCE] button on the main unit will switch from the currently selected source to the other source. Press the [iPod], [CD], [USB/iPad], [AUDIO IN/AUX], [TUNER] or [NETWORK] on the remote control.
Select the desired source by pressing the [SOURCE] button on main unit repeatedly.

A.P.S. (Auto Power Save) Function

The main unit will enter the standby mode after 15 minutes of inactivity during:

CDh: In the stop mode or no disc.
0
USBh In a stop mode or not connected.
0
iPodh: Not docked.
0
AUDIO IN/AUXh No detection of input signal.
- when AUDIO IN/AUX is selected, it may take a little while for the power of the unit to be shut off, depending on the noise condition.

When iPod/iPhone is connected to the iPod/iPhone dock, battery charge starts. “Charge Mode” will be displayed.

If the sound source is USB and iPod/iPhone is connected to the iPod/iPhone dock (when “iPod Dock Charge Mode” is displayed), A.P.S function is not active.

Auto Power On function

During Network Standby, if UX-N5 is selected by AirPlay/DLNA device and playback is started, this unit turns on the power automatically and the music is output from the speaker of this unit.
This condition applies when:

Network has previously been set up between the unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device. (p. 14)
0
This unit is set to NETWORK STANDBY. (p. 10)

Press the [ENTER] button on the remote control when “Press ENTER to start streaming” is displayed.

AirPlay/DLNA Auto Switch

For sources other than NETWORK, if “UX-N5” is selected by AirPlay/DLNA device and playback is started, the source is switched to NETWORK automatically and music from AirPlay/DLNA device is played back.
This condition applies when:

Network has previously been set up between the unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device. (p. 14)

Press the [S/T] button once to advance the time by 1 hour. The time will be changed by pressing the button repeatedly.

To confirm the time display

Press the [CLOCK/TIMER] button.
The time is displayed for 5 seconds.

When power supply is restored after unit is plugged in again or after a power failure, time indicator will flash. Reset the clock again.

Display Brightness Control

To dim the display brightness, press the [DIMMER/ NETWORK STANDBY] button on the remote control.

Using AirPlay / DLNA

There are two ways to connect this unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device, wireless connection (direct wireless connection) and wireless connection via wireless LAN router.

Use of a wireless LAN router is recommended if possible.
0
This unit cannot be used as a wireless LAN router. Use a wireless LAN router to connect your AirPlay/ DLNA device to the internet.
Caution

When this unit is placed too close to a wireless LAN device or microwave, noise interference may occur, causing crackling sound. It may also reduce the communication speed and cause invalid connection. Place the unit away from the wireless LAN device or microwave.
0
This unit is not guaranteed to operate with all the AirPlay/DLNA compatible devices or wireless LAN routers. Please be noted in advance.

About AirPlay

With Apple AirPlay technology, you can stream your music from your Mac/Windows/iPod touch/iPhone/ iPad to external speakers.

Depending on the DLNA application, you may experience malfunctions during network connection or playing back. Try another application in such a case.

DRM files cannot be played back.

Streaming audio sounds of the recorded videos from DLNA devices is not supported by this unit.

Radio Data System

Using Radio Data System

Increasing number of FM stations has started providing the Radio Data System service. These FM stations send additional signals along with their regular programme signals. They send their station names, and information about the type of programme such as sport, music, etc.
“TP” (Traffic Programme) will appear on the display when the received broadcast carries traffic information, and “TA” (Traffic Announcement) will appear while a traffic information is on air.
PTYI (Dynamic PTY Indicator) will appear while the Dynamic PTY station is received.

You can control the Radio Data System by using the buttons on the remote control only.

Each time the [Radio Data System DISPLAY] button is pressed, the display will switch as follows:

Using the Auto Preset Memory

While in the Auto Preset Memory mode, the tuner will automatically search for new Radio Data System stations. Up to 40 stations can be stored.

Once timer play works for one time only at a preset time, to play the selected source.
