When the equipment is installed in a cabinet or on a shelf, make sure that it has sufﬁ cient space on all sides to allow for ventilation (10 cm (3-15/16 or more on both sides, on top and at the rear). Do not block the ventilation holes. (If the ventilation holes are blocked by a newspaper, or cloth etc. the heat may not be able to get out.) No naked ﬂ ame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus. When discarding batteries, environmental problems must be considered and the local rules or laws governing the disposal of these batteries must be followed strictly. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing. Do not use this equipment in a bathroom or places with water. Also do not place any containers ﬁ lled with water or liquids (such as cosmetics or medicines, ﬂ ower vases, potted plants, cups etc.) on top of this unit. (If water or liquid is allowed to enter this equipment, ﬁ re or electric shock may be caused.)

Do not point the lens directly into the sun. This can cause eye injuries, as well as lead to the malfunctioning of internal circuitry. There is also a risk of ﬁ re or electric shock.

The following notes concern possible physical damage to the camera and to the user. Carrying or holding the camera by the LCD monitor can result in dropping the unit, or in a malfunction. Do not use a tripod on unsteady or unlevel surfaces. It could tip over, causing serious damage to the camera.

CAUTION!

Connecting cables (Audio/Video, S-Video, etc.) to the camera and leaving it on top of the TV is not recommended, as tripping on the cables will cause the camera to fall, resulting in damage.

The battery pack, the camera with battery installed, and the remote control with battery installed should not be exposed to excessive heat such as direct sunlight, ﬁ re or the Iike.

To select an on-screen button appearing

on the left side, touch the portion of the sensor next to the on-screen button.

To select an on-screen button appearing at

the bottom of the screen, touch the touch sensor under the on-screen button you want to select.

NOTE

The cursor moves from 1 to 9 on the index screen when you slide your ﬁ nger on the touch sensor.

CAUTION

Touch the sensors with your ﬁ nger. The sensors do not function if you touch them with your ﬁ nger nail or with gloves on.

Make a backup of important recorded data

JVC will not be responsible for any lost data. It is recommended to copy your important recorded data to a DVD or other recording media for storage. ( pg. 22)

Make a trial recording

Before the actual recording of important data, make a trial recording and play back the recorded data to check that the video and sound have been recorded correctly.

Reset the camera if it does not operate correctly

This camera uses a microcomputer. Factors such as background noise and interference can prevent it from operating correctly. If the camera does not operate correctly, reset the camera. ( pg. 33)

Precautions on handling batteries

Be sure to use the JVC BN-VF808U/VF815U/VF823U battery packs.

•

If the camera is subjected to electrostatic discharge, turn the power off before using it

•

again.

If a malfunction occurs, stop using the camera immediately and consult your local JVC dealer

If a problem occurs when using the microSD card, take the card together with the

•

camera for repair. If one of them is not included, the cause of the malfunction cannot be diagnosed, and the camera cannot be repaired.

Recorded data may be erased while the camera is being repaired or inspected. Back up

•

all data before requesting repairs or inspections.

Because the camera may be used for demonstration in a shop, the demonstration mode is set to [ON] by default

To deactivate the demonstration mode, set [DEMO MODE] to [OFF] from the MENU.

When connecting the camera to other devices using an optional DV cable, make sure to follow the procedure below. Connecting the cable incorrectly may cause malfunctions to the camera and/or other devices.*

Connect the DV cable ﬁ rst to the device, and then to the camera.

Connect the DV cable (plugs) correctly according to the shape of the DV connector.

How to Use the Everio Dock*

You can connect cables to the connectors of the Everio dock. The connection is completed when you place the camera on the dock.

NOTE

For the connection using the S-Video jack and DV jack, an optional S-Video cable and DV cable are needed. Consult the JVC Service Center described on the sheet included in the package for details on its availability. Make sure to connect the end with a core ﬁ lter to the camera. The core ﬁ lter reduces interference.

The S-Video cable (optional) enables even higher playback quality on TV. ( pg. 19)

Charging the Battery Pack

Close the LCD monitor to turn off the camera.

Attach the battery pack.

Slide the battery pack down until it locks in place.

Open the LCD monitor to turn on the camera.

When [SET DATE/TIME!] appears, select [YES] within 10 seconds.

A battery is included inside the remote control at the time of purchase. Remove the insulation sheet before use.

A new ﬁ le will be created for every 4 GB of continuous shooting.

This camera records video in MPEG2 format compliant with SD-VIDEO format. This camera is not

compatible with other digital video formats.

Types of Copying and Connectable Device

The Camera

You can copy video/still images from HDD onto microSD card or from microSD card to HDD with this camera alone.

DVD Burner (CU-VD3)

You can copy video ﬁ les recorded on this camera onto DVD discs. ( right column)

You can copy video/still image ﬁ les on this camera onto your PC. ( pg. 23 to 32)

Using a DVD Burner to Copy Files from the Camera

Supported discs: 12cm DVD-R, DVD-RW Regarding DVD-R discs, only unused DVD-

•

R discs can be used. Regarding DVD-RW discs, used DVD-RW discs can also be used, but they need to be formatted before recording. Formatting a disc deletes all content recorded on the disc up until that time.

Dual-layer discs cannot be used.

Regarding ﬁ nalization after copying

The disc is automatically ﬁ nalized so that it can be played on other devices. After ﬁ nalizing, the disc is a play-only disc, so no more ﬁ les can be added.

Always follow the procedures below when disconnecting the camera, or turning off the power of the camera/PC. Failing to do so may cause damage to the camera and PC.

1) Conﬁ rm that the access/charge lamp on the camera does not light or blink. (If the access/charge lamp lights or blinks, wait until it is turned off before proceeding.)

2) Double-click the [Safely Remove Hardware] or [Unplug or Eject Hardware] icon in the status bar.

3) Select [USB Mass Storage Device] or [USB Disk], and then click [Stop].

File Backup on the PC

This method uses the software on the provided CD-ROM to back up ﬁ les onto your PC. Video ﬁ les that have never been backed up onto the connected PC are automatically selected from the back up history and backed up. If you could not install the software, turn to page 27 for details of how to back up your ﬁ les without using this software.

Troubleshooting

The camera is a microcomputer-controlled device. External noise and interference (from a TV, a radio, etc.) might prevent it from functioning properly.

The following phenomena are not malfunctions.

The camera heats up when it is used for a

Before cleaning, turn off the camera and remove the battery pack and AC adapter.

Wipe gently with a soft cloth. If the camera is particularly dirty, dip the cloth into diluted mild soap and wring it out well before wiping. Then wipe again with a dry cloth.

Wipe gently with a soft cloth. Be careful not to damage the monitor.

Wipe gently with lens cleaning paper.

mode if the lens cover is closed or when it is dark. Perform clean up to restore the capacity of the recording media.

Turn off the camera. Remove the microSD card and insert it

again. Turn on the camera after inserting the microSD card. If the error message appears again, replace the card with one that is certiﬁ ed to operate correctly.

It is also recommended to run check disc regularly on the

PC, providing that there is no data on the hard disk of the camera.

The video management ﬁ le is broken. Recovery is required

to record or play back video ﬁ les. Select [YES], then touch the OK button to recover the video management ﬁ le.

The writing speed of recording medium is slow, or the

recording medium is corrupted. Use a microSD card that is guaranteed to operate correctly.

The hard disk was subjected to vibrations or jolts. Be careful

not to subject the hard disk to vibrations or jolts.

Appears when the recording medium is full and recording

Realice una copia de seguridad de los datos importantes que haya grabado

JVC no se responsabilizará de ninguna pérdida de datos. Se recomienda que guarde los datos importantes que haya grabado copiándolos en un DVD o cualquier otro soporte de grabación. ( p. 22)

Realice una grabación de prueba

Antes de grabar los datos importantes, realice una grabación de prueba y reproduzca los datos grabados para comprobar si el vídeo y el sonido se han grabado correctamente.

Reinicie la cámara si no funciona correctamente

Esta cámara utiliza una microcomputadora. Determinados factores, como el ruido de fondo y las interferencias, pueden afectar a su funcionamiento. Reinicie la cámara si no funciona correctamente. ( p. 33)

Precauciones sobre el uso de baterías

Asegúrese de utilizar baterías JVC BN-VF808U/VF815U/VF823U.

Si se produce un problema al utilizar la tarjeta microSD, lleve la tarjeta junto con la

cámara al servicio técnico. Si falta alguno de los dos, no se podrá diagnosticar la causa del fallo y la cámara no se podrá reparar.

Durante la reparación o la revisión de la cámara, es posible que se borren datos

grabados. Antes de realizar una reparación o revisión, haga una copia de seguridad de todos los datos.

Si la cámara ha sido utilizada en un punto de venta para realizar demostraciones, el modo de demostración estará ajustado en [ON] de forma predeterminada

Para desactivar el modo de demostración, ajuste [MODO DEMO] en [OFF] en el MENU.

A la hora de conectar la cámara a otros dispositivos con el cable DV opcional, asegúrese de seguir el siguiente procedimiento. Si se conecta el cable incorrectamente, pueden producirse fallos de funcionamiento en la cámara y/o en otros dispositivos.*

Tipos de copia y dispositivos conectables

La cámara

Se pueden copiar imágenes ﬁ jas de la unidad de disco duro a la tarjeta microSD o a la inversa en la propia cámara.

Grabadora de DVD (CU-VD3)

Se pueden copiar en discos DVD archivos de vídeo ﬁ ja grabados en esta cámara. ( columna derecha)

Uso de una grabadora de DVD para copiar archivos de la cámara

Discos admitidos: DVD-R, DVD-RW de 12 cm

En cuanto a los discos DVD-R, sólo

se pueden emplear discos DVD-R no utilizados. En cuanto a los discos DVD-RW, se pueden emplear discos DVD-RW ya utilizados, pero se deben formatear antes de la grabación. Al formatear un disco se elimina todo el contenido grabado en él.

No se pueden utilizar discos de doble capa.

Acerca de la ﬁ nalización tras la copia

El disco se ﬁ naliza automáticamente para que pueda ser reproducido en otros dispositivos. Una vez ﬁ nalizado, el contenido del disco sólo se puede reproducir, por lo que ya no se pueden agregar más archivos.

L Cuando haya ﬁ nalizado la operación

Siga siempre los procedimientos descritos a continuación para desconectar la cámara o apagar la alimentación de la cámara y el PC. De lo contrario, podría dañar la cámara y el PC.

1) Compruebe que la luz de acceso/carga de la cámara no esté encendida ni parpadee. (Si la luz de acceso/carga se enciende o parpadea, espere a que se apague antes de seguir adelante.)

2) Haga doble clic en el icono [Desconectar hardware con seguridad] o [Desconectar o retirar hardware] en la barra de estado.

3) Seleccione [USB Mass Storage Device] o [USB Disk] y haga clic en [Detener].

4) Haga clic en [Aceptar].

5) Desconecte el cable USB.

6) Apague la cámara y el PC.

Copia de seguridad de archivos en el PC

Este método utiliza el software del CDROM suministrado para hacer una copia de seguridad de los archivos en el PC. Los archivos de vídeo de los que nunca se haya hecho una copia de seguridad en el PC conectado se seleccionan automáticamente del historial de copias de seguridad y se hace una copia de seguridad de ellos. Si no pudo instalar el software, vaya a la página 53 para saber cómo puede hacer una copia de seguridad de los archivos sin utilizar este software.

Preparativos:

Instale el software desde el CD-ROM

Conecte la cámara al PC con el cable USB.

Abra la pantalla LCD para encender la cámara.

En la cámara, pulse el botón DIRECT BACK UP.

Aunque aparezca un cuadro de diálogo en el PC, no es necesario utilizarlo. Se inicia la copia de archivos automáticamente.

Cuando desaparezca la barra de progreso, el proceso se habrá completado.

NOTA

Cuando se realiza la copia de seguridad, se crea una carpeta para cada uno de los soportes (HDD o SD) almacenados en la carpeta [MyWorks] ( p. 25), y se hace una copia de seguridad de los archivos en esas carpetas. (Si se hace una copia de seguridad desde más de un disco duro (HDD) de cámara, se crean carpetas de discos duros individuales.)

Solución de problemas

La cámara es un dispositivo controlado por una microcomputadora. El ruido externo y las interferencias (de un televisor, una radio, etc.) podrían impedir su correcto funcionamiento.

Los siguientes fenómenos no son fallos de funcionamiento.

La cámara se calienta cuando se utiliza

•

de forma prolongada.

La batería se calienta durante la carga.

•

Cuando se reproduce un archivo

•

de vídeo, la imagen se detiene momentáneamente o el sonido se interrumpe en las uniones entre escenas.

que no necesite o reemplace la tarjeta microSD.

Limpieza

Antes de proceder a la limpieza, apague la cámara y extraiga la batería y el adaptador de CA.

Pase con cuidado un trapo suave. Si la cámara está muy sucia, humedezca el trapo con un jabón suave diluido, escúrralo bien y limpie la cámara. A continuación, pase un trapo seco.

Pase con cuidado un trapo suave. Procure no dañar la pantalla.

Límpielo suavemente con papel de limpieza para objetivos.

Evite usar agentes de limpieza fuertes como bencina o alcohol.

operación de recuperación para poder grabar o reproducir archivos de vídeo. Seleccione [SÍ] y toque el botón OK para recuperar el archivo de gestión de vídeo.

La velocidad de escritura del soporte de grabación es baja

o el soporte de grabación está dañado. Utilice una tarjeta microSD cuyo funcionamiento correcto esté garantizado.

El disco duro se ha sometido a vibraciones o sacudidas.

Si utiliza el adaptador de CA en países fuera de los EE.UU.

El adaptador de CA suministrado tiene una función de selección automática de tensión en la escala de corriente alterna de 110 V a 240 V.

USO DEL ENCHUFE ADAPTADOR DE CA

En caso de conectar el cable de alimentación de la unidad a un tomacorriente de CA que no sea de la serie American National Standard C73, emplee un enchufe adaptador de CA, denominado “Siemens Plug”, como el mostrado.
