To reduce the risk of electrical shocks, fire, etc.:
1. Do not remove screws, covers or cabinet.
2. Do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture.

The power can be remote controlled.
Cautions:
• Do not block the ventilation openings or holes.
(If the ventilation openings or holes are blocked by a
newspaper or cloth, etc., the heat may not be able to
get out.)
• Do not place any naked flame sources, such as lighted
candles, on the apparatus.
• When discarding batteries, environmental problems
must be considered and local rules or laws governing
the disposal of these batteries must be followed strictly.
• Do not expose this apparatus to rain, moisture,
dripping or splashing and that no objects filled with
liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the
apparatus.
IMPORTANT
It should be noted that it may be unlawful to re-
ordered pre-recorded tapes, records, or discs
without the consent of the owner of copyright in the
sound or video recording, broadcast or cable
programme and in any literary, dramatic, musical,
or artistic work embodied therein.
Check the copyright laws in your country before
recording from DVD Video, SVCD, Video CD, Audio
CD, MP3 and JPEG discs. Recording of copyrighted
material may infringe copyright laws.
• You cannot record from the built-in DVD player
onto the HDD.
ATTENTIONS:
• Using a cellular phone nearby the unit may cause
picture disturbance on the TV. (In the worst case,
nothing but a blue back screen appears on the TV.)
• Some TVs or other appliances generate strong
magnetic fields. Do not place such appliance on
the unit as it may cause picture disturbance.

Failure to heed the following precautions may result in
damage to the discs, the built-in hard disc drive (HDD),
and the remote control.
1. DO NOT
• in an environment prone to extreme temperatures
• in direct sunlight.
• in a dusty environment.
• in an environment where strong magnetic fields are
• on a surface that is unstable or subject to vibration.

Moisture condensation
Moisture in the air will condense inside the unit when
you move it from a cold place to a warm place, or under
extremely humid conditions—just as water droplets form
in the surface of a glass filled with cold liquid. In
conditions where condensation may occur, keep the unit
turned on for a few hours to let the moisture dry.
Precautions for the HDD
1. Before using the unit:
When the power is on, the HDD is constantly rotating
at a high speed.
This requires you to note the following:
• DO NOT impart vibration or shock.
If given a heavy shock, not only is the data
recorded damaged but also the HDD itself is
damaged.
• DO NOT allow anything having strong
magnetism or emitting strong electromagnetic
waves (cellular phones, etc.) near the unit.
• DO NOT disconnect the power plug from the
wall outlet when the power is on.
If the power supply is cut off while the HDD is
in operation, it can be damaged or the stored
data may be damaged. Be sure to press the
(STANDBY/ON)
2. While using the unit:
• When viewing a TV program through the builtin tuner, you might notice a slight time lag
compared to the actual program being
broadcast. This happens because pictures
received are once stored in the HDD, and then
played back. The time lag is approximately 3
seconds.
• If you turn the power on with the HDD already
selected, it will take about 20 seconds before
the received pictures appear on the TV. During
this period, no operation is accepted.
• The HDD may produce mechanical noise while
power is on, but it is not a malfunction.

button to turn off the power.
Notes on the power cord
• When you are away on travel or otherwise for an
extended period of time, remove the plug from the wall
outlet. A certain amount of power (15 W) is always
consumed while the power cord is connected to the
wall outlet.
• When unplugging the unit from the wall outlet, always
pull the plug, not the power cord.

disassemble them, mix them with other refuse, or
throw them into an incinerator.
• Never touch liquid if it has leaked out of a battery.
• Do not mix new and old batteries, or batteries of
different types, when replacing them.
• Remove used-up batteries and dispose of them
properly.
When the discarding batteries, environmental
problems must be considered and the local rules or
laws governing the disposal of the used-up batteries
must be followed strictly.
Remote sensor
Point the top of the remote control toward the remote
sensor as directly as possible. If you operate it from a
diagonal position, the operating range (approx. 5 m) may
become shorter.

the satellite controller
17
The following procedure is required if you receive
satellite programmes through a satellite receiver.
Approximately 20 seconds before a timer recording
starts, the unit sets its input mode to “L-2” (or “SAT”) and
automatically changes the programme position numbers
on the satellite receiver by sending a signal to your
satellite receiver.
Installing satellite controller
Situate the satellite controller.
1
Place the satellite controller so that the path between its
transmitter and the remote sensor on the satellite receiver
is unobstructed.
Attach the satellite controller.
2
Fix securely using the adhesive strip attached on the back
of the satellite controller.
