WARNINGS
It is most important that this instruction book
should be retained with the appliance for future
reference. Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner, or should you move
house and leave the appliance, always ensure that
the book is supplied with the appliance in order
that the new owner can be acquainted with the
functioning of the appliance and the relevant
warnings.
These warnings are provided in the interest of
safety. You must read them carefully before
installing or using the appliance.
ª This appliance is designed to be operated by
adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper
with the controls or play with the appliance.
ª Any electrical work required to install this appliance
should be carried out by a qualified electrician or
competent person.
ª This appliance should be serviced by an authorized
Service Centre, and only genuine spare parts
should be used.
ª It is dangerous to alter the specifications or modify
this appliance in any way.
ª Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance
does not stand on the electrical supply cable.
ª The domestic refrigerators and freezers are designed
to be used specifically for the storage of edible foodstuffs only.
ª Frozen food must not be re-frozen once it has been
thawed out.
ª Manufacturers’ storage recommendations should
be strictly adhered to. Refer to relevant instructions.
ª During normal operation, the condenser and
compressor at the back of the appliance heat up
considerably. For safety reasons, minimum ventilation must be as shown in the relevant Figure.
Attention: keep ventilation openings clear of
obstruction.
ª Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried
out, be sure to switch off and unplug the appliance.
ª If the appliance is transported horizontally, it is
possible that the oil contained in the compressor
flows in the refrigerant circuit. It is advisable to wait
at least two hours before connecting the appliance
to allow the oil to flow back in the compressor.
ª The inner lining of the appliance consists of chan-
nels through which the refrigerant passes. If these
should be punctured this would damage the appliance beyond repair and cause food loss. DO NOT
USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to scrape off frost or
ice. Frost may be removed by using the scraper
provided. Under no circumstances should solid ice
be forced off the liner. Solid ice should be allowed
to thaw when defrosting the appliance. See defrost
instructions.
ª Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial
means to speed up the thawing process other than
those recommended by the manufacturer.
ª Do not place carbonated or fizzy drinks in the
freezer as it creates pressure on the container,
which may cause it to explode, resulting in damage
to the appliance.
ª This appliance is heavy. Care should be taken when
moving it.
ª Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed
straight from the appliance.
ª This appliance contains hydrocarbons in its cooling
unit; maintenance and recharging must therefore
only be carried out by authorized technicians.
ª Never use metal objects for cleaning your appliance
as it may get damaged.
ª Under no circumstances should you attempt to
repair the appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by
inexperienced persons may cause injury or more
serious malfunctioning. Refer to your local Service
Centre, and always insist on genuine spare parts.
ª This appliance does not contain gasses which
could damage the ozone layer, in either its
refrigerant circuit or insulation materials. The
appliance shall not be discarded together with
the urban refuse and rubbish. Avoid damaging
the cooling unit, especially at the rear near the
heat exchanger. Information on your local
disposal sites may be obtained from your
municipal authorities.
ª Take utmost care when handling your appliance
so as not to cause any damages to the cooling
unit with consequent possible fluid leakages.
ª The appliance must not be located close to radi-
ators or gas cookers.
ª Avoid prolonged exposure of the appliance to
direct sunlight.
ª There must be adequate ventilation round the
back of the appliance and any damage to the
refrigerant circuit must be avoided.
ª For freezers only (except built-in models): an
ideal location is the cellar or basement.

INSTALLATION
If this refrigerator featuring magnetic door seals is to
replace an older appliance having a spring lock (latch)
on the door or lid, be sure to make that spring lock unusable before you discard the old appliance. This will
prevent it from becoming a death-trap for a child.
Positioning
The appliance should be installed well away from
sources of heat such as radiators, boilers, direct sunlight etc.; best performance is obtained with ambient
temperature between +18°C and +43°C (class T);
+18°C and +38°C (class ST); +16°C and +32°C (class
N); +10°C and +32°C (class SN).
The class of your appliance is shown on its rating
plate.
For building into kitchen units follow the special
“Building-in” instructions given.
Electrical connection
Before plugging in, ensure that the voltage and frequency shown on the serial number plate correspond
to your domestic power supply.
Voltage can vary by ±6% of the rated voltage.
For operation with different voltages, a suitably sized
auto-transformer must be used.
The appliance must be earthed.
The power supply cable plug is provided with a contact for this purpose.
If the domestic power supply socket is not earthed,
connect the appliance to a separate earth in compliance with current regulations, consulting a specialist
technician.
The Manufacturer declines all responsibility if the
above safety precautions are not observed.
This appliance complies with EEC directive
number 87/308 of 2/6/87 relative to radio interference suppression.
This appliance complies with the following
E.E.C. Directives:
- 73/23 EEC of 19.2.73 (Low Voltage Directive) and
subsequent modifications;
- 89/336 EEC of 3.5.89 (Electromagnetic Compatibil-
ity Directive) and subsequent modifications.
Cleaning the interior
Before using the appliance for the first time, wash the
interior and all internal accessories with lukewarm water and some neutral soap so as to remove the typical
smell of a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly.
Do not use detergents or abrasive powders, as these
will damage the finish.

Remove the pins «P» and «P1».
Left opening
Remove «P» from both sides and the door. Remove
(A) from the left side and (B-C-D) from the right side.
Refit (B-C-D) on the left side and (A) on the right side.
Refit door and «P» on the left side. Remove «P1» from
the right side.

If after having carried out the operation described in
section 3 there is still some space left between the appliance and the kitchen unit, fit the trimming provided
together with the appliance on the stop strip (A).

Open the door and push the appliance against the
side of kitchen furniture opposite to that of appliance
hinges.
Fasten the appliance with 4 screws provided in the kit
included with the appliance. Snap vent grill (C) and
hinge cover (D) into position.

Apply covers (B) on joint cover lugs and into hinge
holes.

Position the runners (H) at the top and bottom of the
inside of the kitchen unit as shown in Fig. 8 and mark
the position of the external holes.
After preparing the holes, screw the runners to the
kitchen unit door using 3.5x16 mm screws.

Open both the appliance door and that of the kitchen
unit to approx. 90°.
Place the little plates over the runners. Hold the doors
of the appliance and the unit together and mark the
holes.

Remove the little plates and make the holes with a diam. of 2 mm. Replace the little plates over the runners
and screw in the screws provided (3.5x16 mm).
For the alignment of the kitchen unit door, if necessary, use the clearance size of the slotted holes.
At the end of the procedure, check that the doors of
the appliance and the kitchen unit open properly.

In case of side fixing of the appliance, it will be sufficient to loose the screws fixing the bracket (G) and to
position it as shown in Fig. 11.

OPERATION
The freezer compartment of this model is of the
«frost-free» type. This means that no frosting occurs on the inner walls of the compartment or on
food during operation. The absence of frosting is
achieved by constant circulation of cold air inside
the compartment, produced by an automatic fan
blower.
Refrigerator/Freezer - Starting-up and
Temperature Regulation
Insert the plug into the wall socket.
Open the refrigerator door and turn the thermostat
knob, to be found on the upper right side of the inner
liner, clockwise, beyond the «O» (STOP) position, to
start the appliance.
Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the
thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium
setting is generally the most suitable.
However, the thermostat knob setting should be adjusted depending on the temperature required inside
the appliance. This, in turn, depends on a number of
factors such as the ambient temperature, the number
of times the door is opened, the quantity of food
stored and the location of the appliance.
Turn the knob clockwise, to higher numbers, to obtain
a lower temperature, or anticlockwise if a higher temperature is required.
Ambient switch
To ensure a regular operation also at low ambient temperatures this appliance is provided with a switch located beside the thermostat.
This switch must be switched on when the ambient
temperature is below +16°C (the built-in light will
come on).

Fresh food refrigeration
To obtain the best performance, do not store warm
food or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator; do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a strong flavour.
To help you use your refrigerator correctly, here are
some more useful hints:
Raw meat (beef, pork, lamb & wild fowl): wrap in
polythene bags and place on top of the salad crisper
and, for safety, only store in this way for one or two
days at the most.
Fruit & vegetables: these should be thoroughly
cleaned and placed in the bottom salad crisper.
Butter & cheese: these should be placed in special
airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.
Milk bottles: these should have a cap and should be
stored in the bottle rack on the door.
Movable shelves
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series
of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as
desired.
For better use of space, the front half-shelves can lie
over the rear ones.

Important:
If the ambient temperature is high and the appliance is
set to the lowest temperature, it may run continuously
causing frost to form on the rear wall. In this case the
dial must be set to a higher temperature to allow for
automatic defrosting and consequently a saving in
electricity consumption.

Freezing fresh food
Frozen food storage
The compartment marked by the 4-star symbol
is suitable for freezing fresh food. This process permits long-term storage of food that cannot be
consumed rapidly.
To freeze fresh food, it is not necessary to change the
thermostat knob setting from normal. If you require
fast freezing, instead, you should turn the thermostat
knob to the coldest setting. In this case, though, be
sure that the temperature in the refrigerator compartment does not drop below zero.
Place the food to be frozen in the bottom basket of
the freezing compartment.
To obtain the best result from the freezing process,
here are some useful hints:
Freeze only high-quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned
food; prepare the food to be frozen in small portions.
This not only ensures rapid freezing, but it also enables you to use a part of the product instead of having
to wastefully thaw the entire piece.
Remember that lean foods last longer and better than
fat foods, and that salt will reduce their storage life.
Wrap all foods in aluminium foil or polythene bags,
and make sure the wrapping is hermetically sealed
and air is excluded: this will help preserve colour, taste
and nutritional value of the food.
Do not freeze fresh foods, all at the same time, in a
quantity exceeding that shown on the appliance’s rating plate.
Mark the packs with contents and dates so that you
can keep a check on storage periods.
During the freezing process, do not add new food to
be frozen and do not open the door frequently. The
freezing process may be regarded as completed after
24 hours from its beginning.
On the door liner of the 4-star compartment
you will find a pictorial guide with numbers shown
next to each type of meat or food, and these numbers
indicate the approximate storage times in months
from the freeze-in date.
Do not put carbonated liquids (fizzy drinks, etc.) or
warm food in the freezer compartment and do not fill
covered containers to the brim.
If during the storage of frozen food there is a power
cut, it is advisable to use up the food within a short
time or to cook it immediately and then freeze it again.
The compartment marked by the symbol is
also suitable for storing ice cream and frozen food.
To obtain the best results, make sure – first of all – that
the frozen food to be stored has been kept at the
proper temperature in the shop.
Also, wrap frozen food in newspaper when you buy it
and get it home and store as soon as possible.
When the appliance is used for the first time or after
an idle period, it is necessary to let it run for at least
two hours with the thermostat knob on the coldest
setting before placing any frozen food in this compartment, then turn the thermostat knob back to the normally required setting.
Important
Do not exceed the recommended storage times given
on the packets by the producer of commercially-frozen food;
avoid opening the door too often and do not leave it
open longer than absolutely necessary.
If there is a power failure, do not open the door during
the whole time of the failure. If the compartment is fully loaded, frozen food is not affected if the power failure is short. Otherwise it is recommended to use the
food within 24 hours.
Thawing
Deep-frozen and frozen food, prior to being used, can
be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room
temperature depending on the time available for this
operation. Small pieces of food – such as hamburgers, cutlets, chips, and fish fingers, for example – can
be cooked still frozen, directly from the freezer; in this
case, though, cooking will take longer.
Ice cube trays
This refrigerator features ice cube trays.
These trays should be filled with drinking water and
then placed in the freezer compartment.
Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed straight
from the freezer.

Defrosting
The inner walls of the freezer are automatically defrosted every 8 hours.
In the case of the refrigerator, the evaporator is automatically defrosted every time the compressor stops
operating.
The water produced by defrosting flows away – in the
case of both the freezer and refrigerator compartments – through special drainage grooves into a container positioned at the back of the appliance above
the compressor where it then evaporates.
We particularly recommend that you periodically
clean the defrost-water drainage outlet, located in
the center of the drainage groove (Figure 14) in the
refrigerator compartment, to prevent the defrost
water form overflowing on to foods stored in the
compartment.
Use the special cleaner provided, which you will
find already inserted into the discharge hole.

MAINTENANCE
Unplug the appliance before carrying out any
maintenance operation.
Warning
This appliance contains hydrocarbons in its cooling
unit; maintenance and recharging must therefore only
be carried out by authorized technicians.
Periodical cleaning
Never use metal objects for cleaning your appliance
as it may get damaged.
Wash the interior of the appliance with lukewarm water and sodium bicarbonate.
Idle periods
During periods when the appliance is not used, you
should take the following precautions:
remove the plug from the wall socket;
remove all food from the appliance;
defrost and clean the interior and all accessories;
leave the door slightly open, thus letting air circulate
and preventing the formation of mould and unpleasant
smells.
Replacing the interior light bulb
The light inside the refrigerator compartment is easy
to get at through the opening in the light holder.
If the light does not go on when the door is open,
check that it is screwed into place properly.
If it still does not light up, change the bulb.
The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.

SOMETHING NOT WORKING...
What to do if the appliance is not functioning properly.
If something is not working properly, check that:
The plug is firmly in the wall socket and the mains
power switch is on:
There is an electricity supply (find out by plugging in
another appliance);
The thermostat knob is not on the «O» position.
Furthermore:
If there are water drops on the bottom of the refrigerator check that the defrost water drain opening is not
obstructed.
If your appliance is still not working properly after
making the above checks, contact your local dealer or
the nearest service center.
To obtain fast service, it is essential that when you apply for it you specify the model & serial number of your
appliance which can be found on the rating plate, inside the cabinet.
