OPERATION
Starting-up and Temperature Regulation
Insert the plug into the wall socket. Open the refrigerator door and turn the thermostat knob, to be found on the upper right side of the inner liner clockwise, beyond the «O» position, to start the appliance. Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium setting is generally the most suitable. However, the thermostat knob setting should be adjusted depending on the temperature required inside the appliance. This, in turn, depends on a number of factors such as the ambient temperature, the number of times the door is opened, the quantity of food stored and the location of the appliance. Turn the knob clockwise, to higher numbers, to obtain a lower temperature, or anticlockwise if a higher temperature is required.
Freezing fresh food
The 4-star compartment ( ) is suitable for long term storage of commercially frozen food (i.e. for 3 months, unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer), and for freezing fresh food. Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it is not necessary to change the setting of the thermostat knob with respect to the normal running position. However, for a quicker freezing operation, turn the thermostat knob to the coldest setting, but remember that, in this condition, the refrigerating compartment temperature might drop below 0°C. If this occurs reset thermostat knob to a warmer setting.
To help you make the most of the freezing process, here are some important hints:
Place the food to be frozen on the shelf. The maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in
24 hrs is shown on the rating plate. Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned
foodstuffs. Prepare the fresh food in small portions to enable it to
be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity required at the time.
Important
Do not put carbonated liquids (fizzy drinks, etc.) in the freezing compartment as they may burst.
Water ices, if consumed immediately after removal from the freezing compartment, can possibly cause the skin to be freeze burnt.
Remember that, once thawed, frozen food deteriorates rapidly.
On the rear of the door you will find a list of foods followed by a number. These numbers indicate the maximum period of time for which the food in question may be conserved (in months).
Storage of frozen food
To obtain the best performance from this appliance, we strongly recommend that you make sure that the commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately stored by the retailer and, furthermore, be sure that these frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the foodstore to the consumer in the shortest possible time (a temperature increase of the frozen food could shorten its storage period). It is also advisable not to exceed the storage period indicated by the producer of the food. Finally, do not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than is absolutely necessary. If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer, do not open the door of the freezing compartment. The frozen food will not be affected if the power cut is of short duration (a temperature increase of the frozen food could shorten its safe storage period), otherwise it is recommended that the food should be used within a very short time.
Thawing
Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature, depending on the time available for this operation. Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer.
Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and make sure that the packages are airtight.
It is advisable to show on the single food packet the freezing-in date to enable you to keep tap of the storage time.
Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperature of the latter.
18
Ice-cube production
This appliance is equipped with trays for the production of ice-cubes. Fill these trays with water to 3⁄4 of their height, then put them in the freezer compartment. The ice-cubes may be shaken out from the trays by simply twisting; do not use metallic instruments to remove the trays from the freezer.

Storage of foods in refrigerator compartment
Movable wire shelves
To achieve the best results with the refrigerator compartment, you should follow one or two very simple rules:
Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator
Cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a strong smell or contain aromatic herbs)
Do not cover the shelves (grids) with paper or plastic since this blocks circulation of air in the compartment
In addition, foods should be positioned inside the refrigerator compartment as indicated in Figure 11:
Fig. 11

The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as desired (Fig. 12).
Fig. 12
D040
1. Cold cuts, cheese, butter, milk
2. Meat and fish
3. Fruit and vegetables In this position, fresh meat can be stored for 1-2
days at most.
Further hints for getting the best out of your refrigerator are as follows:
Cooked foods, cold dishes, jellies, etc., should be well covered;
Fruit and vegetables should be washed before being stored;
Raw meat (of all types, including poultry) should be stored in plastic bags.
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the shelves (grids) can be positioned as desired.

Defrosting
Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost water drains out through a trough (Fig. 13) into a special container on the back of the appliance where it evaporates.
Clean periodically the water discharge hole in the centre of the drip collector. Use the special cleaner provided, which you will find already inserted into the discharge hole (Fig. 13).
Fig. 13
D037
The freezer compartment, however, will become progressively covered with frost. This should be removed with the special plastic scraper provided, whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds mm. During this operation it is not necessary to switch off the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs. However, when the ice becomes very thick on the inner liner, complete defrosting should be carried out and it is advisable to carry out this operation when the appliance is empty.
To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer compartment ( ) proceed as follows:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set the thermostat on the «O» position. Remove the ice-cube trays and the frozen foods and wrap them in several sheets of newspaper or, even better, in thermally insulated containers, and then keep them in a cool place.
Keep the freezer door open and introduce a container filled with hot water (taking care to place this on a layer of cardboard) so as to accelerate the defrosting process.
Place a basin on the first grill shelf in the refrigerator directly below the drainage hole and lift up the small lid (Fig. 14).
Fig. 14
20
D016
Absorb all remaining water with a sponge and then accurately dry the freezer. Reconnect the appliance to the power supply and then set the thermostat to coldest position for approximately 2 hours and then shift it into the normal functioning status. Replace the foods previously removed from the fr eezer.
Important
Never use knives or metal objects to scrape away the accumulated frost which might damage the cooling circuit.
Periodically clean the defrosting water drainage hole of the refrigerator (Fig. 13), using the special cleaner provided.
Remember that an increase in the surface temperature of already-frozen foods may significantly decrease the duration of their conservation.
Page 11
MAINTENANCE
Unplug the appliance before carrying out any maintenance operation.
Internal cleaning
Clean the interior periodically with lukewarm water and some bicarbonate of soda; the cabinet exterior with a Silicone wax spray; the condenser and the motor compressor with a brush or a vacuum cleaner.
During periods when the appliance is not in use, take the following precautions:
unplug the appliance from the power supply; remove all foodstuffs from the appliance; clean the interior and all accessories; leave the doors ajar to facilitate the circulation of air in
the interior of the cabinet so as to prevent unpleasant odours from accumulating in the appliance.
Replacing the interior light bulb (Fig. 15)
The light inside the refrigerator compartment is easy to get at through the opening in the light holder. If the light does not go on when the door is open, check that it is screwed into place properly.
If it still does not light up, change the bulb. The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
What to do if the appliance is not functioning properly
If something is not working properly, check that: the plug is firmly in the wall socket and the mains
power switch is on; there is an electricity supply (find out by plugging in
another appliance); the thermostat knob is on the correct position.
Furthermore
If the appliance seems too noisy, check that the sides are not touching furniture that can transmit or amplify a noise or a vibration.
Also, check that the piping of the refrigerant system does not vibrate. If there are water drops on the bottom of the cabinet check that the defrost water drain opening is not obstructed (Fig. 13).
If your appliance is still not working properly after making the above checks, contact the nearest service centre. To obtain fast service, it is essential that when you apply for it you specify the model & serial number of your appliance which can be found either in the warranty or on the rating plate.
