Using the A2 Ethernet Multi Dock
1. The ethernet dock is a freestanding desktop base. It can
also be mounted to a horizontal surface like a desk or
shelf. To mount the dock, drill three holes in a horizontal
line 10 7/8” (27.65 cm) apart up through the mounting
surface. Screw #6-32 screws up into the threaded holes in
the dock’s boom base plate.
Note: The screws should not penetrate the dock more than 1/4”.
2. Handhelds must have a docking I/O module. The lower
right side of the module has docking pin contacts as
shown below:
If you have a standard I/O module, replace it with a
docking I/O module. Follow the instructions included
with the kit.
3. To use an Archer 2 with the dock, install the insert as
shown below. This step is not required for the Allegro 2.

Accessories
Included with the Multi Dock
Archer 2 insert and 2 screws (4 sets)
AC universal power adapter
US AC power cord (adapters for international plugs are
available separately from Juniper Systems or your dealer)
RJ-45 CAT5 twisted-pair 7 foot ethernet cable
Accessories Available Separately
Docking I/O modules for the handhelds if they are not
factory installed (available from Juniper Systems or your
dealer)
Communication software to communicate with the
handheld over an ethernet network (options include
custom software or programs from a third party vendor
such as Soti MobiControl, www.soti.net/mobicontrol or
Ai rWatch, ww w.a ir-w atch .com)
Three #6-32 screws to mount the dock to a surface
(optiona l)
4. Aach the AC power cord to the power adapter. Plug
the power cord into an AC power supply and the power
adapter into the power input jack on the dock. This
provides power to the dock and charges handhelds. The
green LED turns on when power is applied.
5. If a handheld has a connector protector, open it to reveal
the connector ports. Pull it back as shown below.
6. To insert a handheld, hold it so the connector ports are
at the boom and the keypad is facing forward. Insert
the handheld into the dock as shown below so it is rmly
seated. The handheld automatically turns on.
7. When you insert a handheld into the dock, a red LED on
the handheld is illuminated, indicating that it is properly
docked and ready to communicate over the network.
8. For networking, use an ethernet cable to connect the dock
to an ethernet switch or to an internal network.
9. Use communication software to communicate with
the handhelds over an ethernet network. Follow the
instructions included with the software.
10. Handhelds can be used when they are in the dock. The
keys and display are accessible.
Connecting Docks Together
You can daisy-chain multiple and/or single docks together
using the ethernet ports and ethernet cables. For the network
installation, consult your network administrator for best
practices. Designs should avoid long chains of more than ve
docks or switches in series (including the upstream network
sw itches).
Maintenance and Environmental Issues
The ethernet dock is intended for indoor use only. Temperatures should be between 0°C to 50°C. Avoid using the dock in
situations where water can enter the connector ports. It is not
sealed against water and must be kept dry, although it sheds
moisture that is on handhelds when placed into the dock.
Do not touch the docking pins (spring loaded contacts) with
conductive items when power is applied to the dock.
Do not drop items on the dock that can damage the pins.
Keep debris o of the docking pins and the connectors to
maintain the best performance.
