• Lees deze gebruiksaanwijzing zorgvuldig
door voor gebruik en bewaar deze goed.
• Laat je cargo cruiser geregeld door een
specialist onderhouden.
beladen of verkeerd beladen bakfiets.

Afstelling
Links
klok). Bij het losdraaien dus altijd tegen de
rijrichting in draaien.
COMFORT

Afstelling
Shimano nexus3
rijden. Tijd om in te (laten) grijpen! Voor de
enthousiaste doehetzelver geven wij enkele instructies.
Terugtraprem

Shimano nexus7
goed afgestelde, spelingsvrije naaf.

Rock Steady
Bij de cargo cruiser wordt een zandzak
of betonblok geleverd.
Optimale verdeling;
Banden
Regelmatig even controleren
voorkomt narigheid.
Regelmatig even controleren

langere levensduur.
ONDERHOUD
Vitale delen zoals kabels, spaken en rem-
men, krijgen in de aanloopperiode kans

Zitten
de remblokjes en bouten goed vast?
• Is de spaakspanning correct? Laat

Getting acquainted
Take the time to find out what the brakes
and gears are capable of and if the positions of the handlebars and saddle are
correctly adjusted and tightly fixed.
• Certain parts, require further adjustments
after some time. It is best if you have this done by a bicycle specialist.
• This manual will be an important source
of help. However, we advise you to consult a bicycle specialist.
Handling
Important: Before transporting children in
the cargo cruiser it is important to spend sometime learning the handling of a cargo cruiser. A cargo cruiser is not a standard bicycle, it takes a little getting used to before the optimal ride technique for this form of transport can be achieved.
When riding in a bend there are forces that push the bicycle to the outside, in order to compensate for this force the rider has to lean to the inside of the bend. A cargo cruiser can not tilt and therefore

number registered with us. You can find this serial number under the crank axle.
• Please read this user manual carefully before your first ride and keep it safe.
the rider has to use their body weight to compensate(with higher speeds more compensation is needed) to the inside of the bend, this insures that the cargo cruiser will not topple over. This phenomenon is most
obvious when the box of the cargo cruiser is
empty or the load is incorrectly spread out. It is important that in bends the steering is
turned to its maximum for example in a left
turn grab the steering on the left side with the right hand this will cause the rider to automatically lean with their body weight to the inside of the bend.
PREPARING
Assembly
If you have received your Johnny Loco cargo cruiser through a 3rd party and not
a bicycle specialist here you will find a
detailed description of how to proceed. Make sure all bicycle parts are greased thoroughly before adjusting/ connecting them. You can always ask a bicycle specialist to do the
final preparations/ check-up.

Left
Turn the left pedal (with the letter L on top of the screw) manually in the left crank. Then tighten it with a 15 mm
flat key. Note: while fixing the left pedal always turn

COMFORT
Preparing
The saddle and handlebars form the basis of your driving position. There is a simple
rule for the correct height of the saddle. With the crank in line with the seat tube, your leg must be stretched but not locked. [1].Too high a saddle will cause sliding and strain on your back. Too low a saddle causes strain in the knees.
Tips
• Ladies will find a horizontal position of
the saddle or the front pointing slightly downwards the most comfortable. A saddle with front slightly raised is most comfortable for men.
• Take care when parking not to put
the saddle against a rough wall, to avoid damage.
• A saddle covered in leather can, if it is
Wet, bleed color onto other materials. You should take this into account.
Saddle adjustment
Put the saddle pin in to the frame tube (at least 80 mm) please look at the safety line. Adjust the saddle tube carefully with a 5 mm Allen key.
• To adjust the height, the saddle tube
bolt should be loosened.
• The safety marks with the warning note
must no longer be visible after the adjustment [2].
There will then be sufficient
length in the frame tube (80 mm) to prevent breakage.
• By loosening the saddle fixing bolt you
can tilt the saddle as well as adjust it backwards and forwards [3].
• After everything has been adjusted
tighten all the nuts and bolts securely (as indicated in the torque table in the safety section.)
• Check regularly between trips if the
nuts and bolts are tight.

at a Johnny Loco dealer. It is possible that during the summer and winter a different position is need with regards to the viscosity of the oil inside the damper.
Bottom Bracket
The rear frame is attached to the box with a ball bearing hinge , if there is any ''play'' in the hinge make sure that it is looked at as soon as possible by a bicycle specialist. This hinge is also the setting for the rear frame, if the rear frame is no longer be up right then a specialist can make adjustments using the bolts of the stabilization strips.
Tips
''Play" in the bottom bracket can be checked by moving the box from front to back from the steering, grove ''play'' is then immediately noticeable. Bring the cargo bike to a specialist on a regular basis
for a check up.
Tips
To check for play/seizing simply place the bicycle with its front wheel against a wall or fence and then push on the bicycle, damage to the groves will be instantly noticeable.
Steering
The handlebars position is key to your riding
position. By adjusting the steering tube
position higher or lower, the riding position changes.
Tips
A cargo cruiser is the type of bicycle that offers a comfortable ride position. This means that the ergonomics of the frame and all the different components were designed for sitting straight up. Make sure that handlebars are higher than the saddle, now sit on the bicycle and check if you are sitting up straight. If you are leaning over the handlebars just raise the handlebars until you are able to sit up straight. The handlebars can be rotated as well. You do not want to be leaning on them, if this is happening then rotate them upwards a little as well.
Steering Damper
In order to assure the stability of the cargo cruiser steering Johnny Loco has used a steering damper. The oil damper is adjustable, by moving the ball joint to another position under the box (closer to the bottom bracket is lighter, further from the bottom bracket is heavier.) Adjust this
BRAKES
Johnny Loco has 2 different brake types: the coaster brake and
the roller brake. Braking is all about knowledge, trust, experience and feel.
During wet weather your braking distance increases (brake blocks) and on longer descents it is safer to pump the brakes to avoid overheating the brakes. A cargo cruiser is not designed to operate at high speeds, so on descents begin breaking directly. This way the cargo cruiser will remain under control. Further more an off balance load can cause balances issues and therefore affect the break performance.
Tips
Make sure that the angle of the brakehandles are reachable while still keeping your hands on the handlebars.
Important
• Nuts and bolts should be tightened
securely.
• Cables should show no kinks or fraying.
• The intuitive experience that you will
quickly acquire will certainly let you know if after some time the braking power is lacking. When there is a brake not adjusted properly or worn, then you cannot continue

to ride. It is time to act! visit a bicycle specialist.
Coaster brake
Corrective work on the coaster brake can only be performed by a specialist.
Rollerbrake
The Nexus ‘Rollerbrake’ brakes need little
maintenance and are sealed optimally against dust and moisture. If the brake levers touch the handlebars when applying the brakes the cable should be tightened. This can be done with the cable setting screw on the brake lever. Rollerbrakes must be greased with special grease, a job to be done by the bicycle specialist.
GEARS
Flexible riding
Use the highest gear only on descents or when the wind is behind you. It is better to cycle in a low gear rather than in a high gear. To be able to change gear with certainty and to spare the mechanism it is advisable not to continue peddling with full power during a gear change. Should in the course of time your gear jump spontaneously or make a cracking sound then just ride to a specialist. He can correct the
problem quickly.
Important
• Hubs should never be oiled.
• Hubs should not have too much play. This
causes unnecessary wear.
Adjustment NEXUS 3-speed hub
• Set the gear change to position 2 [13].
• Check if the Yellow mark inside the change
unit (on the outside of the rear wheel) is aligned between the two yellow lines on the window If they are not opposite, set the position with the setting screw on the change unit.
NEXUS 7-speed hub
• Set the gear change to position 4 [15].
• Check if the red markings on the change
unit (on the rear wheel hub, on the chain side) are aligning. To see the red markings you should stand behind the bicycle [16].
• If they are not opposite, set the position
with the setting screw on the grip shift.[15]

Steering
It is important, for safe steering, that
the handlebar grips are fixed firmly.
Checking them regularly will prevent trouble.
Luggage carrier
As the name indicates the luggage carrier is intended for luggage and not for people.
The maximum load for a (rear) luggage
carrier is 25 kg.
Loading
Do not load the cargo cruiser with more
than a total of 150 KG, with maximums as
follows:
In the box a maximum of 4 children with a total weight not exceeding 80KG so that the total load of 150 KG is not exceeded. Or a
combination of children and goods with a
total weight not exceeding 80 KG.
The rear frame of the cargo cruiser is rated
for a rider not exceeding 100KG. With a
transport carrier on the rear frame, baggage or a children's seat can be attached but at no time can the total load for the cargo
cruiser exceed 150 KG.
With a loaded cargo cruiser always be aware of the changes in the handling with regards
WHEELS
The rim, hub and spokes together form (in combination with the rim tape,
inner tube and tire) an extremely light yet
strong wheel. It is a key part to ensuring that the bicycle is pleasant to ride. There are various aspects that are important for light ‘running’ such as, tires pumped up correctly (please look at the indicated tire pressure on the tires), taut spokes and a properly adjusted hub. You can look after
the first point yourself, the other two should
be handled by a bicycle specialist.
Spokes
Spokes are an important part of your wheels. If they are too slack the stabil-
ity of the bicycle can be influenced nega-
tively (and may cause critical damage to the wheel) After the running in period (100 km) the spokes should be checked Tightening the spokes is very precise work. This is why it has to be done by a bicycle wheel specialist.
Important
• The spokes should be adjusted for the first time a few weeks approximately after 100
km (80 miles).
• If any spokes are loose or broken please
go to the bicycle wheel specialist. He will solve it quickly, which will prevent further damage to the wheel.
• Have the tension of the spokes regularly
checked by a bicycle wheel specialist.
Tires
Tires are an important part in the comfort of your bicycle. They affect the ride in a couple of different ways. It is important that
the tire is inflated to the optimal pressure. A tire that is under-inflated will be prone to
faster tire wear as well as requiring more strength to pedal due to increased surface area making contact with the pavement.
Over-inflated tires can lead to flat tires
and loss of traction due to reduced contact between the tire and the pavement. Check your tires on a regular basis making sure
that they are filled with the recommended
amount of pressure.
SAFETY
A bicycle that has loose parts is not a safe bicycle. On a regular basis perform a check to make sure that you are using a safe bicycle. A bicycle specialist can quickly determine if your bike is in good working order or needs a servicing.

to breaking and steering in bends.
Optimal allocation
The seat in the box is equipped with safety
belts for 2 children. If the seat is being used by 1 child then the seat can be turned around so that the child can sit in the middle of the seat. When
2 children are in the box then one child
should be on the left and the other on the right in order to maintain balance. Make sure that the children do not
hang over the sides of the box.
When transporting things instead of people make sure that they are equally placed with
the box, on the right, the left, and in the
centre. This will help avoid tipping over of the bicycle.
Children are required to wear the seat belts at all times while in the cargo cruiser, for their and your safety.
Rock Steady
The cargo cruiser is delivered with either
a cement block or a bag that can be filled
with sand. This counter weight should be used to increase the stability of the cargo
cruiser. The bag should be filled with 13-15 KG of sand and placed in the front of the box on the floor. This will increase stability
in bends and increase the stability while
breaking when the box is empty. Johnny
Loco has chosen to make the cargo cruiser
as light as possible, so that the expression
"a brick on the road" no longer applies to
our cargo cruiser. A rider with experience or
rider that has a loaded cargo cruiser does not need this counter weight and can leave it at home. Cruising along the boulevards and avenues becomes a breeze with
experience.
A cargo cruiser's wheels are stronger than those of a normal bicycle. The Johnny Loco cargo cruiser has been equipped with wheels that match the light weight of the cargo cruiser.
Tips
In order to achieve the maximum life span
of the cargo cruiser: Remain aware of the surroundings while riding the cargo cruiser,
for example do not ride up or off the
sidewalk however when this is unavoidable do so with two wheels at a time. The greater the load on the cargo cruiser the more attention is needed.
Accessories
Lighting
The cargo cruiser can be used from sunset till sunrise with out fear on the public roads. For cruising after the sunsets until the sunrises it is required by law to have proper lights on the cargo cruiser. That means lights in the front and lights in the rear. Johnny Loco always recommends riding with lights on in the dark. A lighting system recommended by Johnny Loco is available
with out having to add any extra parts to the cargo cruiser simply fixed in place with
a screw.
Extra seat
A second seat is available for in the cargo
cruiser, the position of the extra seat is directly in front of the first one [17]. It can be easily mounted in the box by using the
2mm marker points. Chose the position for
the extra seat then using a 6.5mm drill bit,

About battery and battery charger
Use a power supply of AC100 to • 240V (50/60Hz). Also use outlets and extension cords within the ratings. Ignoring this may cause fire.
About electric-power assisted bicycle
Do not kick yourself forward while • standing on one pedal. Always start while sitting on the saddle. When force is given onto the pedal, the Turbo unit will be activated and the bicycle could fall over or cause a minor collision. Do not park, stop or push the bicycle • with the control-unit switch set to ON. The Turbo unit will operate when the pedals are touched by foot or luggage, causing injuries due to a fall-over of the bicycle. Do not operate the control-unit switch • during traveling. Operate the switch after stopping the bicycle. Otherwise, the bicycle could fall over, causing accidents. Never ride on the bicycle with the •

may come off, causing injuries due to a fall-over of the bicycle. Touching the
Rear Carrier
The Johnny Loco rear carrier fits the cargo
cruiser, this is the same carrier as on the normal beach cargo cruisers. Available in the colour of the cargo cruiser.
E-Cargo Cruiser
The cargo cruiser is also available as an E-bike(pedelec.) The pedal assist electric
motor has a top speed of 25KM/h and assists
25% of the energy needed when coasting
and more when first starting. With the
Johnny Loco cargo cruiser the choice has
been made to limit the maximum speed to 19KM/H. After reaching that speed the
electric assist cuts out. In practice that means that the parts of the trip that are over shadowed by having to pedal to hard can be once again fully enjoyed. In other words the assist from the motor makes any ride a pleasant one, even if you are alone or have a fully loaded cargo cruiser. The active radius of the electric assist varies depending on the load of the cargo cruiser. The electric assist upgrade is also available as a separate accessory for adding later on.
the holes larger. This way the seat can be adjusted for big or small.
Baby Seats
It is possible to equip the cargo cruiser
with a maxi cosy from the firm Steco.
These take up a large amount of space in
the box. A better option is a special baby seat recommended by Johnny Loco that fits
well on the seat in the cargo cruiser. The recommended baby seat can attached to the seat already in the cargo cruiser and is
fit so that in the end a seconded one or a
child can sit beside the baby seat. So two baby seats on one bench or even better a
maximum of 4 baby seats on 2 benches.
Rain cover
A special designed rain cover is available for the cargo cruiser. This rain cover has zipper openings for the 2 benches. This rain cover
is closed off at the height of the box so it
protects children sitting on the benches from the shoulders down.
Deluxe Rain cover
There is also a hooded rain cover available. This rain cover seals the children off completely from the rain and wind.

in particular, may shift the battery mounting position and cause accidents. Do not drive through deep puddles. • Do not drive in the heavy rain during the typhoon, etc. If the assist unit is
exposed to lots of water or immersed
in water, current leakage or electric chock may occur. If abnormal noise is produced or • other abnormality is observed during traveling, stop using the bicycle to have it inspected and serviced by the dealer. immediately after traveling is finished.
The assist unit may be highly heated and cause burn injuries.
What is an Electric-Power Assisted Bicycle?
Riding is possible with little force. When the pedals are pressed, a sensor detects the pressing force. The assist force (electric-assist force) of the turbo unit acts corresponding to the force acting onto the pedals, and riding is possible
with little force. Riding uphill, against the wind, or with luggage is possible easily.
Riding is possible with comfortable speed.
When the riding speed increases, the ratio of the electric-assist force for the pedal force decreases, and the electric-assist force becomes zero when the speed becomes 19 km/h or more in normal mode or turbo mode or 12 km/h or more in economy mode. For this reason, the electric-assist force will
not cause an excessively high speed.
When there is no pedaling or when the pedals are moved in reverse direction, no electric-assist force act.
Riding in the same way as a normal bicycle is also possible.
When the electric assist is set to “OFF”, use is possible in the same way as a normal bicycle. Normal use is possible even when the
battery is exhausted.
Normal mode
When starting to ride and the largest assist force is needed, the ratio between pedal force and electric-assistforce is 1:1.
When the riding speed increases, the electric-assist force gradually decreases. At speeds of 19 km/h or more, the electricassist force becomes zero.
Turbo mode
From 0 to 12 km/h, the ratio between pedal force and electric-assist force is 1:1. When the riding speed increases in the range from 12 to below 19 km/h, the electric-assist force gradually decreases. At speeds of 19 km/h or more, the electricassist force becomes zero.
Economy mode
When starting to ride and the largest assist force is needed, the ratio between pedal force and electric-assist force is 1:1. When the riding speed increases, the electric-assist force gradually decreases.

Riding with increased power
The electric-assist force becomes more powerful than in the normal mode, but the riding distance per one charge becomes
approximately 60% of that in the normal

Riding while conserving battery power
In economy mode, the electric-assist force is set to an upper limit of 15 km/h. For this reason, the electric-assist force becomes weaker than in normal mode, but the riding

The indicating lamps of the control-switch unit show the battery capacity remaining and the status of the Turbo unit.
Approximate riding distance per charge
This is an estimate for the riding distance in normal mode until the remaining charge of the battery becomes zero after a full charge. The riding distance is given for a new battery, an air temperature of 25ºC, a load of 60 kg, a dry road surface, and no wind according to the data of our company. The riding distance in turbo mode becomes 40% to 60% of that in normal mode. The riding distance in economy mode becomes 140% to 160% of that in normal mode.
At speeds of 12 km/h or more, the electricassist force becomes zero.

Riding without the assistance of the Turbo unit
When the OFF button of the control-unit switch is pressed, the intelligent bike can be used as an ordinary bicycle. Even when the battery has been run out, the intelligent bike still can be used as an ordinary bicycle.
Charging the battery
Charging can be done when the battery is on the bike or removed from it. When not charging, always pull out the charging plug from the battery and the power plug from the outlet before storing the battery charger. charging Do not use (discharge) the battery while charging. Damage to the battery charger or the battery is to be feared. Charging will start only when the battery temperature is in the range from 0ºC to 45ºC. As the battery temperature is higher directly after riding, charging may not start, but this is not a defect. Charging will also not start when the temperature is too low (0ºC or lower). When the temperature inside the battery is not
suitable, the orange charging standby lamp
continues to flash, and charging starts when
the temperature inside the battery is in the range from 0ºC to 45ºC. For this reason, charging may take time. Always perform charging in an environment with normal temperature (0ºC to 45ºC).
Use the indicating lamps of the battery charger to check the charging status.
Use in winter
The battery is susceptible to temperature, and when the temperature drops in winter etc., the riding distance may become short.
For use in cold weather in winter etc., store the battery indoors and install it on the bicycle before riding. Do not use it in an environment of 0ºC or lower.

and experience to adjust and lubricate such
hidden moving parts as the steering head and hubs; his hands, eyes and ears also allow him to make a timely diagnosis of small imperfections! Good maintenance is also important in connection with the guarantee. You should carefully read the terms of guarantee further on in this booklet!
Tools
A simple set of tools will suffice for the
limited work. You will be well on your way
with a set of flat key's (8 to 15 mm),Allen
keys, screwdriver, pliers, a small bottle of bicycle oil and maybe a punc- ture repair kit. Ensure that whenever parts
are replaced, the replacements fitted are
original or the equivalent.
Important
Because pivot points with bearings are
water repellent but not watertight, it is not advisable to use a garden hose or high-pressure jet cleaner. The alloy
and chrome parts of your bicycle (for ex-
ample, rims, cranks, hubs and handlebars) should have preventive treatment with acid-free petroleum jelly or special grease
to prevent oxidation.
Cleaning
First use a soft brush to remove the dirt. A plastic soft spiral brush (often used during the cleaning of central heating radiators) can be really useful for places
that are difficult to reach (the inner sides of mudguards). Next go to work with warm water mixed with a mild liquid soap (NO
strong chemicals such as bleach, ammonia or soda) and a soft cotton cloth.

Do not pass it exclusively through the front
wheel!
