Thank you for choosing a JL Audio Stealthbox® for your automotive sound system.
With proper installation, your new vehicle-specific enclosed subwoofer system
will deliver years of listening pleasure.
If you choose to perform the installation yourself, it is absolutely vital that the Stealthbox instructions. Failure to mount the enclosure properly presents two problems:
1) The sub-bass performance will suffer due to the movement of the enclosure caused by the force exerted by the woofer(s).
2) A loose enclosure presents a serious safety hazard in the event of a collision or sudden deceleration.

Lower both sides of the rear seating.
Remove the jack (A), jack tools (B) and the rear window sill plate (C).

With a Phillips screw driver, remove the two screws that secure the passenger’s side c-pillar to the rear wall.

JL Audio dealer. The installation professionals employed by your dealer have the necessary
tools and experience to disassemble and reassemble your vehicle properly. Also, keep in
mind that your warranty coverage extends to two (2) years if your system is installed
or approved by your authorized JL Audio dealer. If you prefer to perform your own
installation, please read this installation guide completely before beginning the process.

Pull off the passenger’s side rear door sill plate.

S T E P 4
With a Phillips screw driver, remove the two screws that secure the driver’s side c-pillar to the rear wall.
S T E P 5
Pull off the driver’s side rear door sill plate.
S T E P 6
Pop the c-pillars off the wall.
Stretch out the seat belts and carefully place both c-pillars into the bed of the truck, so they are out of the way.
S T E P 8 Passenger's side:
Grab the black plastic box(vent column) and pull it towards the front of the truck, until it clears the threaded stud(circled). No mounting hardware secures this vent column to the truck.
After the vent column is free from the threaded stud, lift up and pull the vent column out.
The vent that is mounted to the rear wall, needs to stay in place.
S T E P 9 Driver's side:
Grab the black plastic box(vent columns) and pull it towards the front of the truck, until it clears the threaded stud(circled). No mounting hardware secures this vent column to the truck.
After the vent column is free from the threaded stud, lift up and pull the vent column out.
The vent that is mounted to the rear wall, needs to stay in place.
S T E P 1 0 If the truck is not equipped with the folding floor extensions, go to STEP 13.
Remove the driver's side and the passenger's side folding floor extensions from the mounting bar (circled).

S T E P 7
With a T-45 socket and ratchet, remove both the passenger’s side and the driver’s side seat belt retracting units.
Remove the rear wall carpeting.
S T E P 1 1
With cut off wheels or a saw, remove both folding floor extension mounting bars from the rear seat mounting supports.
If you are to use cut off wheels, protect the interior from the sparks. Do not allow the sparks to shower upward. The sparks will cause cosmetic damage to the headliner.

S T E P 1 2
With cut off wheels or a saw, remove the four (two are circled) rear wall ledges. These support the folding floor extensions.
Cut as flush to the rear wall as possible.
S T E P 1 3
Remove the rear wall carpeting.
HD Series Only
With cutting wheels or a saw, cut the threaded studs from the rear wall(B). Cut as flush to the rear wall as possible.
1500 Series Only
With a set of pliers, work the threaded studs(B), until they break free from the rear wall. With an Unibit®, enlarge these holes to an 1/2-inch diameter.
S T E P 1 4
Spray the areas that have been cut with paint. This is to prevent any rust from forming.
HD Series Trucks Only S T E P 1 6
Place the pair of supplied wax square into place. Passenger's side(pictured): Place one of the supplied wax squares onto the lower left corner of the same emboss metal that the threaded stud was located on.
Driver's side(not pictured): Place one of the supplied wax squares onto the lower right corner of the same emboss metal that the threaded stud was located on.
HD Series Trucks Only S T E P 1 7
Thread the supplied pair of socket cup set screws into the Stealthbox®, leaving 3/4-inch of thread exposed. Position the Stealthbox® in the mounting location and press onto the Stealthbox® firmly.
Remove the Stealthbox® carefully, leaving the wax squares in place. The socket cup set screws will leave impressions in the wax.
HD Series Trucks Only S T E P 1 8
Note: Before drilling, make sure that you are not going to be drilling into any gas lines, electrical wiring or anything else that might cause a reduction in your weekly pay. Always wear eye protection when drilling!

Mount the driver's and the passenger's seat belt retracting units, c-pillars and rear door sill plates back into place.
1500 Series Trucks, go to STEP 19.
With a drill and a 1/2-inch drill bit, drill through the impression made in the wax square and through the cab wall.
Remove the wax squares, as seen in the picture at left.
S T E P 1 9
Place the rear wall carpet back into place.
Feel for both drilled holes in the rear wall through the carpeting. With an utility knife cut an X that is in line with these drilled holes. This is to allow the pair of socket cup set screws to pass through the carpeting, once the Stealthbox® is in place.

S T E P 2 0
If an amplifier is to be mounted onto the Stealthbox®.
Drill the mounting holes in the proper location. Apply silicone to the four supplied Phillip head screws before securing the amplif ier.
Run speaker wire from the amplifier location to the speaker terminals. Attach the speaker wire to the terminals.
Double check the woofers for proper operation.
S T E P 2 1 1500 Series Trucks
Thread in the pair of socket cup set screws into the back of the Stealthbox®, leaving 1-1/2" of the threads exposed.
HD Series Trucks Back out the pair of socket cup set screws, leaving 1-1/2" of the threads exposed.
S T E P 2 2
From inside the truck, position the Stealthbox® into the mounting location. From the outside of the truck(between the cab wall and the bed wall) place the supplied fender washer, flat washer, lock washer and then nut onto each exposed socket cup set screw. Use a long 3/8" open end wrench or ratcheting box end to secure the mounting hardware. If you have big hands and arms, time to get that smaller friend of yours to help out.
Note: For added protection it is recommended that you apply a bead of silicone between the vehicle and the fender washer. After the bolt assembly is tightly secured, it is also recommended that vehicle under­coating material is applied to the exposed assembly.

JL Audio recommends using a high quality amplifier such as the JL Audio 250/1. The diagram below shows the recommended crossover, infrasonic filter and equalizer settings for the 250/1 when being used to power your Stealthbox®.
The JL Audio 250/1 is a very versatile audio component. Please consult the owner’s manual for even more detailed information about installing and tuning this amplifier.
