INSTALLATION GUIDE

Thank you for choosing a JL Audio Stealthbox® for your automotive sound system. With proper
installation, your new vehicle-specific enclosed subwoofer system will deliver years of listening pleasure.

If you choose to perform the installation yourself, it is absolutely vital that
the Stealthbox
instructions. Failure to mount the enclosure properly presents two problems:
1) The sub-bass performance will suffer due to the movement of the enclosure
caused by the force exerted by the woofer(s).
2) A loose enclosure presents a serious safety hazard in the event of a collision
or sudden deceleration.

STEP 1
Place the convertible top in the down position, keeping the
protective lid open.
Position the seats all the way forward.
Remove the pair of rear speakers.
STEP 2
Pull out the pair of plastic push-in retainers. These hold the
painted interior trim piece to the rear bulkhead.

We strongly recommend that you have your new Stealthbox® installed by your authorized JL Audio
dealer. The installation professionals employed by your dealer have the necessary tools and experience
to disassemble and reassemble your vehicle properly. Also, keep in mind that your warranty coverage
extends to 1 year if your system is installed or approved by your authorized JL Audio dealer. If you
prefer to perform your own installation, please read this installation guide completely
before beginning the process.
STEP 3
Remove the pair of Allen head screws from the top side of
the painted interior trim piece.
Remove the painted interior trim piece out of the vehicle.

STEP 4
Place a supplied wax s quar e o nto the p assen g er’s si d e o f
the rear bulkhead.
The mi ddle of the wax s quar e s hould measu re, 3 1/ 2- inches
from the top of t he rea r b ulkh ead and 3-inc hes fro m the
lef t o f the stand out, as seen i n the picture at left.
STEP 5
Place a supplied wax squares ont o the driver’s side of the
rear bulkhead.
The mi ddle of the wax s quar e s hould measu re, 3 1/ 2- inches
from the top of t he rea r b ulkh ead and 3-inc hes fro m the
right of the stan d out , as seen in the pi cture at left.
STEP 6
Fully thread in each supplied 3/8-inch hex head bolt into
each Stealthbox®.
STEP 8

to be drilling into any gas lines, brake lines, transmission
lines, electrical wiring, transfer case (4x4 vehicles)
or anyt hi ng e l se t h at m ig h t c au se a re d uc t i on i n you r
weekly pay. Always wear eye protection when drilling!
Wit h a drill and a 1/2- i nch dr i l l bit, dril l throu gh the
impressi on made i n the wax squa re and i nto the vehicle ’s
rear bulk head. R emove th e wax sq uares and cut the carpet
from the ar e a around the drilled hole , as see n i n the
picture at left .
STEP 9

STEP 10
Cut enough s p eaker w ire to al low the run from the each
Stealthbox® loca t ion to th e amplifier loca tion.

STEP 7
Position each Stealthbox® into their mounting location, with
the le g t o the mid d le of the vehicle.
Firmly press each Stealthbox® into the rear bulkhead.
Remove each Stealthbox® carefull y, lea ving th e wax sq uares
in place. The head of the bolt will leave an impression on
each wax square.
Remove the 3/8-inch hex bolt from each Stealthbox
®
.

Attach the speak er wir e t o the wire terminal on each
Stealthbox®. Check the woofe r f o r proper operati on.
Place each Stealthbox® into their mounting position.Br ing
the sp eaker w ire th rough t he factory speaker mountin g
holes.
STEP 11
Place a supplied 3/8-inch lock washer, supplied 3/ 8-inch
flat washer and supplied 3/8-inch fender washer onto each
supplied 3/8-inch hex head bolt.
Place each bolt assembly through the drilled hole from
STEP 8 & 9. This is fr om the back side of the rear bulkhea d,
into the threaded insert of each Stealthbox
®
, as seen in the
picture at left .
Using an 9/16-inch open end wrench or socket, secure the
bolt assembly. Do not over thighten the bolt assembly.

STEP 12
Place a supplied 5/16- inch lock washer and then a supplied
5/16-inch flat washer onto each 5/16-inch hex head bolt.
From i nside the tr im piece, place two of these bolt assembli es
through the holes that are on the back side of the trim piece.
Place a supplied 5/16- inch flat washer onto each exposed
5/16-inch hex head bolt. Hand tighten each supplied coupling
nut onto each 5/16-inch hex head bolt. Look to STEP 14 for
a cross section illustration.
STEP 13
Place the painted interior trim piece back into the vehicle.
Mount the painted i nterior trim piece with the allen screws
that were removed in STEP 3.
STEP 14
From the back side of the rear bulkhead, place the last pair of
bolt assemblies through the factor y holes.
Place a supplied 5/16-inch flat washer onto each hex head
bolt, between the painted interior trim piece and in front of
the rear bulk head.
Hand tighten these bolt assemblies to the coupling nut that
is attached to the painted interior trim piece.

JL Audio recommends using a high quality amplifier such as the JL Audio 250/1.
The diagram below shows the recommended crossover, infrasonic filter and equalizer settings for the 250/1 when
being used to power your Stealthbox®.
