ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY OF DRILL AND POWER HEAD
When unpacking the components of your Jiffy® Ice Drill
make sure to check each component for damage.
Jiffy® E-Z Connect™ Collar
Connect drill assembly to powerhead by sliding E-Z Connect™ Collar down and pulling clevis pin out. Then slide drill assembly onto the powerhead output shaft. Line up the hole in the drill assembly to the hole in the output shaft and insert clevis pin through drill assembly and output shaft. Slide E-Z Connect™ Collar up over clevis pin and twist the collar counter-clockwise slightly to lock pin in place.
Note: Do not remove clevis pin from yellow collar tether.
CHECK BEFORE STARTING YOUR JIFFY® ICE DRILL:
1. Be sure the control switch is in the proper position for either drillin g position (counterclockwise) or hole clean out position (clockwise).
2. Inspect the machine for proper condition and operation, paying special attention to the throttle control assembly and drill assembly.
+ TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY FROM THE
TURNING DRILL ASSEMBLY OR FROM REACTIVE FORCES, THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AND REL ATED MECHANISM MUST MOVE FREELY AND RETURN IMMEDIATELY TO THE DISENGAGED POSITION WHEN RELEASED.
NEVER OPERATE YOUR JIFFY® ICE DRILL IF IT HAS
BEEN DAMAGED, IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED OR NOT COMPLETELY AND SECURELY ASSEMBLED.
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY FROM REACTIVE FORCES, THE OPERATOR MUST HAVE A FIRM GRIP ON THE MACHINE AND A GOOD FOOTHOLD ON THE ICE BEFORE STARTING THE DRILL AND OPENING THE THROTTLE.
KEEP HANDS, FEET, HAIR, DRAW STINGS, SCARVES,
HATS AND LOOSE CLOTHING AWAY FROM ANY MOVING PARTS OF THE UNIT.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
STARTING PROCEDURE:
1. Make sure battery is fully charged before attempting to start unit.
2. Slide the battery onto the power head. You should hear a click when it is fully seated.
3. While holding the right operator handle with your right hand, slowly squeeze the throttle with your left hand.
4. If unit does not start, check the following:
a. Make sure battery is fully charged. b. Make sure battery is fully seated in the power head. c. Make sure battery is not too cold – warm the battery if
necessary. One light on the battery will slowly blink if the battery is too cold.
5. To stop the auger, simply release the throttle control lever.
6. When the auger is not in use, remove the battery.
7. If the battery is left on the motor assembly, after more than 35 minutes of inactivity (throttle not activated, USB not being used, LED lights off), the battery will go into Sleep Mode. Press the Check Battery button on the battery to recover from Sleep Mode and operate.
Reverse Drill Operation
1. Make sure control switch is in the proper position (clockwise position) for clearing slush out of drilled hole.
2. Slide the drill assembly into the already drilled hole and then throttle up the power head while holding the unit in the hole (approximately 6-8 seconds). Repeat this procedure 2-3 times.
3. Throttle down the power head and remove drill from hole.
Note: While fishing, remove battery from power head and keep in warm place between drilling holes. This is especially important in cold conditions.
USING YOUR JIFFY® E6 LIGHTNING™ ICE DRILL:
NOTE: Remove blade protector from drill assembly prior to
drilling. Reinstall when drilling is complete.
NOTE: To minimize water splash back, throttle down when the drill
breaks through the ice, then raise drill slowly.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE:
1. When transporting or storing your Jiffy® E6 Lightning™ Ice Drill, always disconnect the battery.
2. If the battery will not be used for 3 months or more, fully charge the battery and store between 32°F and 100°F.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When transporting your Jiffy® Ice Drill on an ATV or snowmobile, it is extremely important to follow these instructions and use caution to avoid damage to the power head and transmission or related equipment.
There are many after-market ice drill carrier mounting systems to choose from. Make sure the carrier s ystem you purchase or use has the proper support for the power head. Many systems are designed to only support and mount to the lower drill assembly. This leaves the power head unsupported. This situation will result in major damage to the power head and transmission. Take the necessary steps to insure proper support of the power head as noted above. If the power head is not properly supported during transportation, this will void the limited warranty and all repairs or replacement costs will be the responsibility of the owner. Purchase the correct carrier mounting system and exercise extreme caution when transporting the auger.
NOTE: To further protect your power head when transporting, make sure the power head is covered to minimize any snow or ice build-up on any of the functional power head parts, such as the battery, throttle, or throttle cable assemblies. Jiffy® has an accessory power head cover (Jiffy® #4022) to protect the power head from these types of conditions and can be purchased at most sporting goods retail locations or online at www.jiffyonice.com.
