GRINDING FACE OR FLUTES OF BITS
Place the bit to be sharpened on the plain stud on the
rocker arm of the fluting fixture, advance bit into the
wheel by use of the hand wheel at the front of the
fluting fixture until the correct angle for grinding is
obtained, then use the lever to rock the bit back and
forth into the wheel and at the same time turn bit with
left
hand until sharpened.
GRINDING GAUGE OF BIT
To grind the O.D. of bit screw bit on to the removable
stud in the rotary fixture spindle. Next set the fixture
to the correct angle or taper on bit which has been
found to give the best results; also position the bit in
relation to face of wheel by sliding spindle either way
and locking in place by use of hand nut screw provided.
Swing bit into the wheel by use of handle on top of
fixture and rotate the bit by turning the hand wheel on
spindle in the opposite direction to the wheel rotation
until
bit is ground to correct diameter. A stop is pro
vided on this fixture which permits duplication.
TRUING DEVICE
The external adjustable form wheel truing device,
directly above the flute grinding fixture, dresses the
“V” wheel. The dresser is adjustable for various angles
from 20° to 45°.
In using this wheel dresser, grasp the hand
top with the left hand and swing lo the left. A stop is
provided so that the desired angle can be obtained.
Then swing the pick wheel arm, which is provided with
handle, back and forth across one side of the form
wheel and then push the handle at the top to the
opposite side, or to the right, and repeat, until the
wheel is trued. Drawing the slide back by use of the
fluted hand wheel at (he rear of the truing device
attached to the screw enables the operator to dress ofl
as much wheel as desired. After dressing the wheel
swing the dresser arm up and on to
of the way.
