Machine Specifications
COLUMN — Heavy cross-sectioned, gray iron with rounded and smooth corners. An
ample coolant tank with removable sludge pan and handy base clean-out plate.
WATER PAN — This pan is of generous capacity, rounded at the corners and finished
with a very smooth surface for quick and complete cleaning.
GUARDS — Made of heavy
cast
iron with hinged covers
and
adjustable spark protectors.
PUMP — Centrifugal motor-driven ball bearing type. All bearings well above the water
line. The coolant is pumped through regulating valves to grinding wheels.
SPINDLES — Are of high carbon steel — machine turned and ground.
BALL BEARINGS — Of the “
deep grooved
” type, carefully fitted in the motor end-
shield housing, where no grit can enter or oil get out.
GRINDING REST — Is of exclusive Blount design which incorporates a coolant ejector.
At the face of rest there is a series of holes or jets through which the water is forced
against the grinding face of wheel. This feature not only keeps the tools cooler but
cleans the wheel as it grinds. Entire rest assembly is adjustable for wheel wear.
MOTOR AND STARTER — Motor is totally enclosed and has a manually operated
switch with overload motor protection. (Magnetic starter with overload and low voltage
protection furnished at slight additional cost.)
FOOT TREADLE SWITCH — This feature is furnished at extra cost on all models.
Treadle operated switch has spring release and machine is kept running only while
operator has foot “
down
” on treadle. As soon as foot pressure is released the machine
will automatically stop.

The general specifications of the above grinder are
Cup wheel grinders of this type are recommended for the grinding of flat face tools
such as, planer tools, chisels both for wood working and metal working, and others
requiring no curvature of grinding surface.
Grinders for special applications similar in general design to those previously described,
can be furnished for specific grinding operations, either with special adjustable tables
or with special fixtures. The cut shown on the following page is one of the semi-special
grinder combinations, utilizing cup type wheels together with built-in diamond wheel
dressers and sliding tables, for the notching of short bars of heat treated steel, pre
paratory to sample testing for hardness. This particular application is used in con
junction with sample testing of 30 and 50 calibre rifle barrels.
