INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL
All relevant codes and regulations laid down by the Gas Supply Authorities, Uniform Building Regulations and requirements of Local Municipal Authorities must be adhered to.
ONLY a registered gas installer, whom must be accredited by JETMASTER, can perform the installation.
All gas installations must comply with the requirements of the national standard SANS 10087-1
Installation and use of this fire must be in accordance with these instructions.
Any appliances incorporating a live fuel effect and designed to operate with luminous flames, may exhibit slight carbon deposition.
CLEARANCE DISTANCES AND MATERIALS
Heat is radiated from the fireplace. It is therefore important to take special care that no combustible material is placed close to the fireplace. No combustible materials e.g. wooden furniture, cupboards and fittings should be placed within the following dimensions:
Long sides Short sides Above
700mm 700mm 1200mm
The platform into which the unit will be fitted must be constructed of a non-combustible material and must conform to all National Building Regulations.
NOTE:
The hot air that rises from the unit can cause damage to heat sensitive materials like plastics and electronic appliances. Any item placed directly or indirectly above the unit must be protected against the heat generated.
VENTILATION
Fire uses oxygen to burn; thus it's important to provide enough fresh air for the combustion process. In addition to that fireplaces without a flue release all combustion products back into the room. This increases the need for adequate ventilation.
As part of the combustion products released into the room moisture is also released into the room. This will raise the humidity of the room.
NOTE: Should excessive moisture be noted in the room, additional ventilation must be provided and mechanical drying might be required.
To ensure efficient performance of the unit, and the safety of the occupants in the room ensure that at least the following aeration is provided in the room. These openings must be of a permanent nature.
Ventilation must be provided both on floor level as well as on ceiling level, to allow for fresh air to move in through the floor level opening, and out through the ceiling level opening.
Both floor and ceiling level openings must be at least 300cm2. For instance a opening of 25cm x 12cm.
These ventilation requirements are applicable for all rooms including bedrooms, living areas kitchens etc.
NOTE: This appliance may not be installed in a separately enclosed bathroom or any other separately enclosed room.

Revision 02 @ 04/09
GAS SUPPLY PIPE INSTALLATION
The nature of a drop in gas fireplace is such that for most applications it would be necessary to route the gas supply line through the floor. All relevant codes and regulations laid down by the Gas Supply Authorities, Uniform Building Regulations and requirements of Local Municipal Authorities must be adhered to. This must comply with the requirements of the national standard SANS 10087-1
It is recommended that the installation of the gas supply line be completed before attempting to install the gas burner.
INSTALLING THE FRAME
NOTE: Before starting preparations for installing the frame, the position of the unit should be planned. Do not start any installation until the complete manual has been studied. Special attention should be paid to:
Clearance distances.
Routing of gas supply pipes.
An example of a typical installation into a bricked platform is used to explain all installation requirements. The same distances and guidelines apply to all other installation layouts.
STEP 1
Prepare the structure to allow for a cavity of at least the dimensions specified in the table below:
Length Width Depth
Minimum 910 300 200
Maximum 970 330 N/A
The structure into which the unit is installed must be equipped with an air opening to supply fresh air to the base of the burner. A minimum opening of at least 2cm3 must be provided. (E.g. a round hole of Ø50mm)
FAILING TO PROVIDE A FRESH AIR OPENING TO THE BASE OF THE BURNER WILL RESULT IN THE BURNER PRODUCING TOXIC FUMES INTO THE ROOM.

Revision 02 @ 04/09
STEP 2
Centrally locate the frame, into the hole provided. It is recommended that clear silicone be used to glue the frame onto the surface. This will allow for removal of the frame at a later stage, without damaging of the surface or the frame.
NOTE: The Infra red sensor for this unit is located at one of the short sides of the burner. This should be located at the same side as the electronic control board. It is thus important to make sure that the tray is placed with the control module on the side that would be best suited to have the IR sensor.
THE GAS CONNECTION
STEP 1
The gas supply line must now be connected to the appliance. The following components must be connected as illustrated below:
8mm copper pipe to the valve inlet
In line test point to the 8mm copper pipe
The 8mm copper pipe which is the gas supply line to the unit.
After connecting the gas supply line, a leakage test must be performed. It is the responsibility of the gas installer to ensure that a leak testing method, suitable for the specific installation is being used.
NOTE: Before commissioning, gas leaks can be detected only between the supply point and the inlet to the appliance. Once the appliance is operational, and additional check must be done for leaks inside the appliance.

STEP 2
Before fitting the rest of the components, it is advisable to verify that the unit functions acceptable.
Connect all electronic components as indicated in the wiring diagram.
The battery for the unit must be placed on top of the bracket holding the control module.
NOTE: For initial tests the IR sensor will have to be placed some ware accessible to establish a line of sight between the sensor and the remote control handset.
Air can be purged from the gas supply line, by temporarily removing the sealing screw of the test point fitted before the gas valve.
Thereafter follow the following steps:
Connect a pressure gauge (manometer) to the inlet test point
Switch on the burner (on initial ignition the process might have to be repeated before all air is purged from
the burner itself)
Check for gas leaks on all the joints of the burner itself.
Set the burner to its maximum flame setting.
Verify that the inlet gas pressure is 2.8 kPa while the unit operates on maximum flame setting.
If necessary make adjustments to the gas supply until the 2.8 kPa is maintained at maximum flame setting.
Switch off burner.
NOTE: At this stage of the installation the flame pattern will be different from the final flame. Flames that lift drastically from the burner tube are normal at this stage.
THE BURNER TUBE AND OTHER COMPONENTS MIGHT
BECOME VERY HOT DURING THIS PHASE. DO NOT TOUCH
WITH BEAR HANDS

STEP 7
Place a row of pebbles directly above the burner opening between the front and back V-board panels. These pebbles must be spaced 10mm – 15mm apart. Pay attention to the pebbles placed in front of the pilot flame, so that the pilot flame will not be obstructed by any pebble.
Now cover the rest of the panels with pebbles in a visually acceptable manner.
NOTE: The pebbles must always remain on one level only. Do not place any pebble on top of any other pebble, except for the edges of the fray where flames cannot reach.
COMMISIONING
At this stage of the installation the unit have already been tested for any gas leaks and for the correct dynamic gas supply pressure to the unit. Should there be any doubt about leaks or the supply pressure, remove all pebbles, & V-Board panels and repeat the checks as described in this manual.
INCORRECT PEBBLE PLACEMENT WILL RESULT IN
UNACCEPTABLE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS.
