Walter Meier (Manufacturing) Inc., warrants every product it sells. If one of our tools needs service or repair, one of our Authorized Service Centers located throughout the United States can give you quick service. In most cases, any of these Walter Meier Authorized Service Centers can authorize warranty repair, assist you in obtaining parts, or

WARRANTY
JET products carry a limited warranty which varies in duratio n based upon the product (MW = Metalworking, WW = Woodworking).
WHAT IS COVERED?
This warranty covers any defects in workmanship or materials subject to the e xceptions stated below. Cutting tools, abrasives and other consumables are excluded from warranty coverage.
WHO IS COVERED?
This warranty covers only the initial purchaser of the product.
WHAT IS THE PERIOD OF COVERAGE?
The general JET warranty lasts for the time period specified in the product literature of each product.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED?
Five Year Warranties do not cover woodworking (WW) products used for commercial, industrial or educational purposes. Woodworking products with Five Year Warranties that are used for commercial, industrial or education purposes revert to a One Year Warranty. This warranty does not cover defects due directly or indirectly to misuse, abuse, negligence or accidents, normal wear-and-tear, improper repair or alterations, or lack of maintenance.
HOW TO GET SERVICE
The product or part must be returned for examination, postage prepaid, to a location designated by us. For the name of the location nearest you, please call 1-800-274-6848.
You must provide proof of initial purchase date and an explanation of the complaint must accompany the merchandise. If our inspection discloses a defect, we will repair or replace the product, or refund the purchase price, at our option. We will return the repaired product or replacement at our expense unless it is determined by us that there is no defect, or that the defect resulted from causes not within the scope of our warranty in which case we will, at your direction, dispose of or return the product. In the event you choose to have the product returned, you will be responsible for the shipping and handling costs of the return.
HOW STATE LAW APPLIES
This warranty gives you specific legal rights; you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
LIMITATIONS ON THIS WARRANTY
WALTER MEIER (MANUFACTURING) INC., LIMITS ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES TO THE PERIOD OF THE LIMITED WARRANTY FOR EACH PRODUCT. EXCEPT AS STATED HEREIN, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS ARE EXCLUDED. SOME ST ATES DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATIONS ON HOW LONG THE IMPLIED WARRANTY LASTS, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

Introduction
This manual is provided by Walter Meier (Manufacturing) Inc., covering the safe operation and maintenance procedures for a JET Model JBM-5 Mortiser. This manual contains instructions on installation, safety precautions, general operating procedures, maintenance instructions and parts breakdown. T his mac hine has been designed and constructed to provide years of tr ouble fr ee oper ation if used in accor dance with i nstructio ns set forth in t his manual. KEEP GUARDS IN PLA CE and in order.
REMOVE ADJUSTING KEY S AND WRENCHES. Form the habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting
wrenches are removed from t he tool before turning it on .
KEEP THE WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents.
DO NOT USE IN A DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. Don’t use power tools in dam p or wet locations, or expose
them to rain. Keep work ar ea well lighted.
KEEP CHILDREN AWA Y. All v isitors should be kept safe di stance fr om the work area .

DO N’ T FORCE THE TO OL. It will do the job bet ter an d safer at the rate for which it was designed.
USE THE RIGHT TOOL. Don ’t for ce a tool or att achment t o do a job for which it was not designed.
USE THE PROPER EXTENSI ON CORD. Make sure y our extension cord is in good conditi on. When using an
extension cord, be sure to use one h eavy enough to carry the curr en t your product will dr aw. An undersize cord will ca use a drop in the line voltage r esulting in loss of power an d overheating. For runs up to 25 feet, use a 16 AWG or larger gauge cord. For runs up to 50 feet, use a 16 AWG or larger cord. For runs up to 100 feet, use a 14 AWG or larger cord. If in doubt, use the nex t heavier gauge. The sma ller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
WEAR PROPER APPAR EL. Do not wear loose cl othing, gloves, neckties, rin gs, bracelets, or other j ewelry which m ay get cau ght in movin g parts. Nonslip foot wear i s recommended. Wea r protective hair covering to contain long hair.
ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust masks if th e cutting operation is dusty. Everyda y eyeglasses on ly hav e impa ct resist ant len ses, they are N O T safet y glasses.
SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold the work when it’s practical. It’s safer than using your hand and it frees both hands to operate the t ool.
DON’T OVERREACH. Keep pro per footing and ba lance at all ti m es.
MAIN TAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for best and safest perfor m ance. Follow
instr uctions for lubricatin g and changing accessories.
DISCON NECT TOOLS befor e servicing; when changing accessories, such as blades, bits cutters, and the like.
REDUCE THE RISK OF UNINTENTION AL STARTING. M ake sure the switch is in th e off posit ion before
plugging in the machine.
USE RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES. Consult the own er’s manual for recommended accessor ies. The use of impr oper accessories may cause a ri sk of i njury.
NEVER STAN D ON A TOOL. Ser ious injury could occur if the t ool is ti pped or if t he cutting tool is unin tentionally contacted.
CHECK DAMAGED PA RTS. Be fore furt her use of th e tool, a guard or other part tha t is damaged shoul d be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended functi on. Check for alignm ent of moving parts, bi nding of mov ing parts, breakage of parts, mounting, an d any other conditions that may affect it s operation. A guard or other part that is damaged shoul d be properly repaired or repl aced.
DIR ECTION OF FEED. Feed work int o a blade or cu tter against th e direction of rotation of the blade or cutt er only.
NEVER LEA VE THE TOOL RUNNING UNATTENDED. TURN THE POWER OFF. Don’t l eave the tool until it come s to a com p lete stop.
WARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other construction activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer , birth defects or other reproductive harm. S om e examples of th ese chemicals a re:
Lead from lead based pai nt.
Crystalline silica from bricks, cement and other masonry products.
Arsenic and chrom ium from ch em ically t reated lumber.
Your r isk of exposure varies, depending on how oft en you do t his type of work. To reduce your exposu re to these chemicals, work in a w ell-venti lated area and work w ith approved sa fety equipment, su ch as face or dust masks that are specifica lly designed to filter out microscopic particles.
