Jbl WRKW1000 User Manual

Two powered speakers/receivers
One transmitter unit
Thanks for buying JBL’s
WRKW1000
wireless
speakers.
Your WRKW1000 is essentially your own radio station and receiver. Its operation is bound by the same limitations as any radio reception. For example, other equipment that may emit radio frequencies such as computers and cordless telephones may affect your WRKW1000s operation. In such cases, increasing the distance between your WRKW1000s transmitter or receiver and this other equipment will reduce or eliminate interference and improve performance. Metal surfaces may also limit or impede transmission of radio frequencies. Keeping your WRKW1000s components from metallic surfaces will ensure the best possible performance. Do not set up your WRKW1000 transmitter or receiver on top of a metallic surface (such as the top of some audio equipment). Buildings with metal structures may also reduce your WRKW1000s operating range.
Setting up your wireless system.
Getting the WRKW1000 up and running is simple! Just follow these instructions:
One male-to-male stereo RCA cable
Two AC adapters for the speakers
Make sure that all of the following items were packed with your WRKW1000 system:
Use this system and listen to
high-quality music wherever you are,
without complicated wires or hookup.
On the porch, by the pool, in the garage,
in your bedroom, in your home theater...
the possibilities are endless!
Connect the transmitter to your audio system.
1. Take the smallest of the three AC adapters and plug it into the DC IN jack on the rear of the transmitter.
2. Plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet.
3. Using the supplied RCA cable, connect the left and right inputs of the transmitter to the left and right outputs of your sound source. A sound source is the equipment from which you wish to transmit audio. This source needs to be connected to the WRKW1000 transmitter. If the WRKW1000 speakers are in a different room than the transmitter or if the WRKW1000 speakers will be the only ones used with your selected source, it is suggested that you use the tape monitor or tape out or other xed-level output. A xedlevel outputs volume does not vary with the volume control setting. After completing setup, you can check for having selected a xed-level output by conrming that the WRKW1000s volume does not change
along with changes to the volume control on your audio source connected to the WRKW1000. If the WRKW1000 is used along with other speakers simultaneously and in the same room (such as using the WRKW1000 as the rear surround speaker in a home theater system), or if you wish to use the volume control of one audio source (such as TV), a variable audio pre-amp signal should be connected to the transmitter. This type of output level is adjustable through the volume control on your TV or other source. In this case, turn up your TV or other source’s volume as high as you would for normal listening before proceeding to the next stage. In the event that your sound source has a single stereo minijack output instead of a pair of RCA jacks, purchase a stereo miniplug-tomale stereo RCA cable from your JBL dealer or electronics store.
Note: At this time the Frequency Selector Control on the back of the transmitter should be left in the factory-selected setting.
One AC adapter for the transmitter
Problem: No audio or very low volume level. Solution:
Check that the slide switch on the back of the speaker is set to the correct position.
Make certain both channels from your audio source are connected to the inputs of the transmitter.
Check that the speakers are receiving power. The LED should glow when the power switch is pressed in.
Make certain the Level Control on the transmitter is set correctly.
The distance between your WRKW1000 transmitter and speaker(s) may be farther than the systems maximum range for your specific usage and environment. See the opening paragraph of this owners manual regarding some of the many conditions that may reduce your systems operating range. In such instances, you will need to use the WRKW1000 speaker(s) in a location that is closer to the transmitter and then repeat the steps above.

What to do if your system isn’t working.
Problem: The light on the powered speaker is always orange and, despite turning the TUNE knob, signal cannot be locked onto.
Solution:
Make sure that the transmitter is connected to its AC adapter, and the adapter to a working AC power outlet.
To verify that the transmitter is receiving power, increase its level control while playing music through the system. The LED should ash red at some point, indicating that the transmitter is powered. Reset the control to its original position after the test.
Slowly adjust the tuning dial until the tuning light glows green.
Adjust the Frequency Selector Control on the rear of the transmitter.
Reposition the speakers slightly.
Remember that slight changes (even a few inches) in speaker placement can affect system performance.

Problem: Sound is distorted. Solution:
The transmitter may be getting too much volume. Make sure that the red LED on the transmitter only ashes brightly on loud musical passages.
Slowly adjust the tuning dial until the tuning light glows green.
Reposition the speakers slightly.
Remember that slight changes (even a few inches) in speaker placement can affect system performance.
Adjust the Frequency Selector Control on the back of the transmitter.
Re-adjust the TUNE knob on the powered speaker after having performed either of the two steps above.
If none of the above works, you may have to raise the physical location of the transmitter or the receiver, or both, to clear obstacles and then re-check the steps above.

Adjust the level control on the back of the transmitter.
1. Turn the level control counterclockwise all the way.
2. Play music through your audio system while turning this control clockwise in small increments, until the red LED on the front of the transmitter ickers brightly
only during the loudest passages. Wait a few seconds between changes to allow the transmitter to recognize the new setting.
Note: If the LED doesnt glow during the loudest passages or it glows all the time, the sound may be distorted. The setting is correct when the LED ashes brightly only during the loudest passages.
Connect the speakers to the system.
Position the speakers where they will be used. Play music through your audio system while doing the following:
1. Plug the two large AC adapters into the DC IN jacks on the back of the speakers.
2. Turn the Volume Control to a ten oclock position and the Tone Control to a twelve oclock position.
3. Plug the AC adapters into a wall outlet.
4. Set the slide switch located on the back of each speaker. If both speakers are to be used in the same room in stereo, designate one of them as the Left speaker and the other as the Right speaker, and set the switches on the back accordingly. If only a single speaker is to be used in a room, or if both speakers are intended for use in a monaural application, set the switch(es) in the Mono position.
5. Push in the power switch of each speaker. Slowly adjust the tuning knob on the front of each speaker until the tuning light glows green. You should then hear your program material playing through the speakers. Fine tune the reception by slowly turning the tuning knob slightly to the right and to the left for best reception. In case you cannot get clear reception, move the speaker slightly to the right or left until reception improves.
6. Adjust the Volume and Tone controls to the desired listening level and enjoy your WRKW1000s.
Note: The speakers (receivers) may require slight re-tuning from time to time due to changes in surrounding temperature, humidity, etc. This is normal.
Wall-mounting your WRKW1000.
The WRKW1000 speakers may be wall-mounted. The customer is responsible for proper selection and use of mounting hardware available through hardware stores to properly and safely wall-mount the WRKW1000. This product is not intended for ceiling mounting.
