DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE

DESIGN
The JBL Differential Drive Design is an
important advancement in subwoofer motor
technology
. This design enables each GTi
subwoofer to use a pair of smaller 3"-diameter
voice coils. This dual-coil configuration provides
significantly higher power handling through
increased surface area, and maintains the
low-moving mass not possible with larger coils.

IMPREGNATED-
PAPER WOOFER CONES
Using this combination has been chosen for its
high strength-to-weight ratio, and is formed
using a proprietary manufacturing process. Its
stiffness relieves stress concentrations that may
accumulate at the base of the cone in highpower and high-pressure applications.
NITRILE-BUTYLENERUBBER, ONE-PIECE
SURROUND AND
GASKET
Using this material results in an optimal blend
o
f elasticity and internal damping. The size of
the roll is optimized to offer good long-throw
linearity with the proper amount of control
and stability at excursion limits.
PROGRESSIVE SPIDER
This allows better control at excursion limits
than a linear spider
. The benefit is reduced
distortion at high output levels.
VENTED POLEPIECES
Additional cooling is provided to the motor
structure. The subwoofer’
