Avoid placing any 4429 monitors near power ampliers or radiators that
generate large amounts of heat or in very humid or dusty places or in any
places exposed to direct sunlight. Place them on a rm, solid oor.
If you are using two monitors, install them by using a recorded sound source that has a distinct virtual center image. Find the center point between the monitors by measuring the distance between the left and right monitors. Adjust the distance between the listening position and the monitors, as well as the distance between the right and left monitors, to obtain a precise center image. We have designed these monitors to reproduce the stereo soundstage most accurately when the interior angle between each monitor and the listener is 40 to 60 degrees. Additionally, it is ideal to place the monitors approximately 50cm (20") or more from the left and right walls. The center of the monitor's sound image is in the vicinity of the HF (highfrequency) unit. Set the monitors to align the HF unit at ear level. To avoid
acoustical interference with the oor surface, we recommend that you place
the monitors on a sturdy base (cube or block shaped) with a thickness of 5cm – 20cm (2"– 8").
COnnECTiOn
CAUTIO N Always turn off the power before connecting the monitor to the am-
plier. Connecting the monitor while the power is on may damage the amplier or the monitor.
The monitor uses independent, continuous, variable attenuators to adjust the HF (high-frequency) and UHF (ultrahigh-frequency) levels to the monitors woofer level. Adjust the attenuators to the rooms acoustics and to your liking. Most monitors and other speakers take about one or two months after initial use for their vibration system to yield optimum performance. As the level balance is expected to change with use, we recommend that you readjust the attenuators accordingly.
ThE griLLE
We have shipped the monitor with the grille attached. The purpose of the grille is to protect the drivers. You may remove and reattach the grille as necessary.
MainTEnanCE
When doing any maintenance on the monitor, wipe the surface of its cabinet with a dry cloth to remove dust. Damp cloth or cleaning paper may dull the
nish on the cabinet surface. Do not use volatile liquids such as benzene,
paint thinner or alcohol, and do not spray insecticide nearby. If dust gets into the grille netting, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust. Adjust the suction power of the vacuum cleaner so that it does not suction too strongly. Furthermore, do not wash the grille in water. The grille may sag, or its colour may become uneven. If the surface of the monitor becomes dusty, carefully sweep the dust away with a soft, dry calligraphy brush or paint brush. Never use a damp cloth. The monitor is a durable consumer good. Nevertheless, the edges of its woofer, which support rapid movement of the paper cone, undergo a great level of stress, and there is a limit to the number of years of its practical use. Also, the effects of temperature, humidity or ultraviolet radiation may shorten a monitors lifespan. Please avoid exposing the monitor to lighting equipment, direct sunlight or sources of strong lighting, and avoid placing the monitor near an air conditioner, exhaust pipe, heat radiator or any other source of high temperatures.

The positive terminals of the monitor have a red ring, and the negative terminals have a black ring. Be sure to connect them without mistaking their polarity. We have designed the monitor for positive-phase operation; that is, when a positive signal is applied to the positive terminal, the woofer moves forward.
In order to connect to the terminals safely and securely, we recommend that you use the Y terminals or banana plugs on the cable ends.
