PREVENTING SMEAR AND BLOOMING

Blooming ia a hazy halo of light around a bright light source. and smear ia a vertical line of light extending from a bxight light course. CCD chips are inherently very reMant to blooming. but having an extremely bright light against a dark background may cause either of these to occur. To avoid smear and bkmxning. try to in&all the camera 80 that intense bright lights are not in the field of view.
MECHANICAL FOCUS (BACK FOCUS) ADJUSTMENT
The mechanical focus ia set at the factory before the camera i.9 shipped. but Borne lenses require that the mechanical focus be readjusted. To determine ifmechanical focusing is requked. try to focus on a distant object with the aperture of the lens completely open (set to the canallest f - stop). If 8ati&tory focus ia not attainable, adjust the mechanical focus of thecameraaafollows.UseS~1.2and3forfixed-focal-lengthlenses;useallfour ntepn for zc0m lenses.
-12-
@ Direct the camera at a scene with good contrast and detail. then open the lena aperture
completely and set the focus to infinity (-1. If a zoom lena is installed, set the zoom adjustment to maximum telephoto (narrowest angle of view).
0 U&g the Allen wrench supplied with the camera, lcemen slightly the two set screws on
the lena mount ring. Refer to Figure 3.
@ ‘Tbrn the lena and mount assembly in either direction ta obtain the ahaqeat picture on tlie
monitor. and tighten the two ecrewa.
