Introduction

We congratulate you on the purchase of your Jaeger­LeCoultre watch and thank you for your confidence.

A genuine innovation, the Master Compressor Extreme
W-Alarm watch offers the two additional functions which,
until now, globetrotters could only dream of having in the
same watch : world-time display to find their way through
the various time zones, and an alarm mechanism featuring
unprecedented functionalities.

We invite you to consult the operating instructions and we
wish you great pleasure with your Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece.

Accuracy

Mechanical models with manual or automatic
winding

The precision of the mechanical models is determined by the
balance. The latter performs 21,600 or 28,800 vibrations per
hour depending on the model (see technical characteristics).

Despite all the care that the Jaeger-LeCoultre master­watchmakers have lavished on making and assembling your
watch, its accuracy is subject to the influence of gravity, mag­netic fields, shocks, as well as ageing of the oils. This accuracy is
measured by its rate regularity in various positions.

The nature of your temperament and of your daily activi­ties may cause slight variations in timekeeping. If you were to
notice that your watch is running slow or fast, we advise you
to take it to an approved Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer, who will
make any necessary adjustments.

Quartz models

The quartz models are accurate to within 2 to 3 minutes
per year.

Jaeger-LeCoultre quartz watches contain a battery
and electronic components. When performing
maintenance, your official Jaeger-LeCoultre Service

Centre or your authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer
will take charge of their recovery and disposal in accordance
with the standards in force.

Water resistance

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Automatic watches are
water-resistant to 5 bar/atm. This proper ty is identifiable by
the

symbol engraved on the case-back. This means
that you can use your watch for short swims, and when diving
from the poolside, but not from a diving board. It must not
be used either for scuba diving or for sports where there are
significant risks of hard knocks, such as windsurfing and water­skiing. Please also note that leather straps are not suitable for
aquatic activities.

It is also essential to have the water resistance of your watch
regularly checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer
at least once every 2 years, and definitely before any period
in which it will undergo prolonged and / or regular immersion.

The «1000 Hours Control» test
by Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger-LeCoultre subjects its watches to the rigorous “1000
Hours Control” test programme. Unique in its kind, this test
consists of 1000 hours of comprehensive, stringent checks.

The «1000 Hours Control» seal or marking, affixed or
engraved on the back of your watch, cer tifies that it has
undergone this observation programme in our laboratories
and has successfully passed all tests. The latter include rate
regularity checks, reactions to changes in temperature and
barometric pressure, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields,
as well as water-resistance tests. Your watch is therefore
capable of withstanding the trials of everyday life when you
wear it on your wrist.

The criteria of the “1000 Hours Control” programme go far
beyond the official timekeeping test standards, which concern
only part of the movement. Jaeger-LeCoultre tests both the
movement and the fully cased-up watch.

Compression keys

Equipping the crowns of the Master Compressor line models,
the patented compression key system can apply strong com­pression to one of the 4 crown seals, thereby ensuring impec­cable long-term water resistance.

The “open” or “closed” position of the compression key is
indicated by the arrow symbols (viewed from the dial side) :

- The compression key is in the compressed seal position
(“closed”) if the indication is a white arrow; the keys must
be closed when you wear your watch and when you are
taking part in spor ts. You must not make any adjustments
or set the time in this position, since this might damage the
gaskets.

- The compression key is in the non-compressed seal posi­tion (“open”) if the indication is represented by two red
arrows; in this configuration, you may proceed to start the
watch and adjust the functions according to the indications
below.

The transition from the “closed” to the “open” position, or
vice-versa, is performed by turning the key using the wing­nuts in the direction indicated by the arrow(s).

Note
The water-resistance function of the compression key is sepa­rate from the operation of the crown itself. Even in closed
position, the key does not lock the crown. It is thus in practice
possible to handle the crown when the key is in the com­pressed seal position. However, as mentioned earlier, it is
extremely inadvisable to make adjustments in this position,
since this might damage the seals. We recommend that you
first turn the compression key to the “open” position before
performing any adjustments on your watch.

Adjusting the bracelet

You can adjust your steel bracelet yourself. However, if you
have a gold model, we advise you to entrust it to the nearest
approved Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer, or to contact one of our
official Service Centres listed at the end of the guarantee
booklet.

Adjusting the steel bracelet

Place the watch on your wrist. You can thus see how many
links need to be added or removed.

Remove your watch by simultaneously pressing the pushpieces
on either side of the clasp.

Hold the bracelet near the clasp. Using the adjustment tool,
press the end of the bar (fig. 1) and lift up the link (fig. 2).
Avoid the 2 links on either side of the clasp.

Proceed in the same way for the following link (fig. 3) if you
want to remove a single row of links (or the 2

nd

, 3rd, etc. if you

want to remove 2, 3... rows of links).

Take out the two bars (fig. 4).

Remove the row(s) of links (fig. 5).

Place the 2 ends of the bracelet back together and insert a
bar (fig. 6).

Tip over the link, press on the end of the bar pivot and push
your link down until it clicks (fig. 7).

Adjusting the clasp

The clasp of your watch is fitted with a length-change system
enabling you to lengthen or shorten your bracelet by 4 mm on
each side, for enhanced wearer comfort.

Using the fine adjustment system

Transition from the long position to the short position:

Remove your watch.

Hold your clasp open between the thumb and forefinger of
one hand, with the bracelet section in your other hand (fig. 1).

Use

Starting the watch

Crown B

Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direc­tion of the arrow. Crown B is then in position 1.

A few clockwise turns of the crown are enough to set the
watch running. It is then automatically wound when you wear
it. Please note that the crown does not lock on winding, even
when the watch is fully wound.

When the operation is completed, turn the compression key
to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.

Note on crown A : in position 2, two operations are pos­sible :

- Turn clockwise : adjusts the date in increasing order.

- Turn counter-clockwise : sets the alarm time.

Time setting

Crown B

Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direc­tion of the arrow.

Then pull crown B out to position 2.

Move the hands forward until the desired time, making sure
to move them past 12 o’clock if making this setting in the
afternoon.

When the operation is completed, push crown B back into
position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” posi­tion in the direction of the arrows.

Setting the date

Crown A

Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direc­tion of the arrow.

Then pull crown A out to position 2.

Move the date forward by turning the crown clockwise. Per­form the required number of turns until the desired date is
displayed.

For months with fewer than 31 days, follow the same proce­dure to move forward to the 1

st

of the next month.

When the operation is completed, push crown A back into
position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” posi­tion in the direction of the arrows.

Setting the alarm

Winding

Crown A

Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direc­tion of the arrow. The crown is then in position 1.

Winding is performed by turning the crown clockwise. The
watch is fully wound when the crown locks.

When the operation is completed, turn the compression key
to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.

Setting the time

Crown A

Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direc­tion of the arrow.

Then pull crown A out to position 2.

This operation actuates both the alarm mobile
discs simultaneously - the hour and minute discs ­and displays the desired alarm time below the refer­ence bar at 9 o’clock.

The hour disc indicates the hours from 1 to 12.

The minute disc has a 5 by 5-minute graduated scale for each
hour, with the quarter-hours identified by numerals.

To set the alarm time, turn the crown counter-clockwise until
the time when you want it to ring (displayed on the simulta­neous mobile discs) is displayed below the reference bar at
9 o’clock.

When the operation is completed, push crown A back to po­sition 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” position
in the direction of the arrows.

Once the alarm has been activated using the procedure
below, it will sound when the alarm display time next comes
up on the watch (every 12 hours if you wind the alarm up
again).

Starting and stopping the alarm

The Master Compressor Extreme W-Alar m watch is equipped
with a double push-button for activating or deactivating the
alarm function. This double push-button is at 10 o’clock, either
side of crown C (which moves the city disc for the world time
function, explained below).

- To activate the alarm, press the upper part of the push-but­ton. The alarm will sound whenever the desired time comes
up on the watch, i.e. every 12 hours if you wind up the alarm
again.

- To deactivate the alarm, press the lower part of the push­button. This position disables the alarm chime.

- The chime may be stopped at any time by pressing the
lower part of the push-button. This operation stops the
chime and simultaneously deactivates the alarm function.

World time operation

Your Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm watch has an
ingenious world time display system, enabling it to indicate the
time in 24 of the world’s cities simultaneously.

Instant reading of the time in the 24 time zones of the world
is thus possible thanks to the city disc and the 24-hour rotat­ing ring. This reading requires a pre-setting, which consists of
setting the local time by positioning the corresponding city
at 6 o’clock. The time in the city selected corresponds to the
mechanism reference time.

How to proceed

- Set the hour and minutes on your watch as per the instruc­tions above (local time).

- Crown C (only one position, not pulled out) moves the city
disc : turn the crown in one direction or the other to bring
up the city corresponding to your local time opposite the
numeral “6” on the dial (i.e. 6 o’clock position).

- The 24-hour ring then indicates the same time as your
local time opposite the numeral “6” and hence opposite
the reference city that you have placed in this same posi­tion.

Once this pre-setting has been performed :

- The 24-city disc no longer moves.

- The 24 hour ring will turn along with the local time ring
(time in your reference city), but completes one turn of the
dial in 24 hours. It updates the time for each of the cities at
the same time as the local time.

- You can thus at any moment read the time in any city indi­cated on the city disc, by putting together the hour dis­played on the 24-hour ring opposite the city in question
with the minutes on your central hands.

- If you travel to another time zone, you will need to repeat
the operation to bring up the new reference city corre­sponding to the new time zone at 6 o’clock.

Nota bene : the few regions in which the official time differs
by a fraction of an hour (India, Iran, Nepal) do not appear
on the city disc.

Case shock-absorber system

Your watch has a novel case system which allows it to absorb
the shocks sustained, and thereby protects the watch move­ment. The case is built in two parts :

- The central part, in titanium, is a water-resistant case which
protects the movement.

- The external part consists of the lower support.

The case containing the movement is housed in the support
and can move vertically. In case of an impact, an airbag system
dampens the force.

Interchangeable strap system

The base of your watch case is fitted with an integrated inter­changeability system allowing the strap to be changed easily.
It consists of a pushbutton which shifts part of the space
between the lugs to release the strap’s spring bar from its
housing in the lugs.

Removing the strap sections from the case

- Hold the back of the watch case between the thumb and
forefinger of one hand (A).

- Hold the strap section between the thumb and forefinger
of your other hand (B).

If setting is performed at 5 o'clock, you

observe that the 24-hour ring indicates

"5" opposite the city at 6 o'clock.

Two hours later, at 7 o'clock, you

observe that the 24-hour ring has

also moved forward, to indicate "7"

opposite the city at 6 o'clock. The time

in all time zones can be read instantly.

Closed position

- With the thumb of hand B, push the button firmly against
the case, and still maintaining the pressure, pull the strap
section toward you to remove it.

- Proceed in the same way for the other section.

Fitting the strap sections on the case

- Hold the back of the watch case between the thumb and
forefinger of one hand.

- Hold the strap section between the thumb and forefinger
of your other hand, and position its spring bar in the lug
housings.

- While maintaining the strap parallel with the case, insert
the spring bar firmly into the housings.

If you change strap, you can fit the folding clasp on your new
strap :

Removing the folding clasp

- With one hand hold the strap section, and take the tool in
the other hand. Position the tool ver tically on the end of
the visible spring bar. Press vertically, and the spring bar will
be released.

- While maintaining pressure on the spring bar, tilt the strap
section outward to release it.

Refitting the folding clasp

- Place one end of the strap section spring bar in the appro­priate clasp housing.

- With one hand hold the strap section in the housing, and
take the tool in the other hand. Position the tool vertically
on the other end of the bar. Press vertically.

- While maintaining pressure on the spring bar, bring the
strap section back against the clasp. Release the pressure
on the bar at the last minute so that the spring has time to
insert the bar in its housing.

Your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is guaranteed against all
manufacturing defects for two years from the date of
purchase, subject to the following conditions.

Any part found by our technical services to be defective as a
result of a manufacturing defect will be, at the sole discretion
of Jaeger-LeCoultre, repaired or replaced free of charge.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre International Guarantee is valid only if
the guarantee certificate enclosed with this booklet has been
duly completed, dated, stamped and signed by the authorised
Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer who sold your watch.

This International Guarantee does not cover defects resulting
from accidents, mishandling or incorrect or abusive use (for
example, knocks, dents, crushing, excessive temperatures,
powerful magnetic fields), the use of or effect of using
batteries other than those designated by Jaeger-LeCoultre,
unauthorised alteration or repair or the consequences of
normal wear and ageing of the watch, the strap or the glass,
the loss of water resistance after two years after the date
of purchase if your watch is water-resistant, and any defect
resulting from the contact with water if your watch is not
water-resistant.

Jaeger-LeCoultre water-resistant watches may be identified
by the symbol

engraved on the back. Their water
resistance is guaranteed for two years from the date of
purchase, provided that the glass, the bezel, the back, the
middle part and the crown have not been damaged. It
is essential to have the water resistance checked by an
authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer or an official Jaeger­LeCoultre Service Centre at least once a year, and in any
event, prior to any period of intensive use. Please refer to the
operating instructions for fur ther details.

For quartz watches, this guarantee does not cover the battery
life.

As a consumer, you may have legal rights under applicable
national legislation governing the sale of consumer goods;
those rights are not affected by this guarantee.

The movement of a mechanical watch requires regular
maintenance (servicing, lubrication, etc.) to ensure a long
operating life. Should your watch need servicing or repairs, please
send it, together with its guarantee certificate, to the authorised

years from the date of purchase.

The liability of Jaeger-LeCoultre is limited solely and
exclusively to repair or replacement under the terms and
conditions stated herein. Jaeger-LeCoultre shall not be
liable, by virtue of this Limited Warranty or otherwise, for
any loss or damage arising out of the use of or inability
to use this watch nor for any incidental or consequential
damages relating in any way to this watch. Some States,
Provinces and Territories do not allow limitations on how
long an implied warranty lasts or the exclusion or limitation
of incidental or consequential damages, so the above
limitations or exclusions may not apply to you.

This Limited Warranty grants you specific legal rights, in
addition to which you may have other legal rights which
vary from one Country, State, Province or Territory to
another.
