Accuracy
Mechanical models with manual or automatic winding
The accuracy of the mechanical movement models is determined by the balance. This makes 21,600 or 28,800 vibrations per hour, depending on the model (see technical characteristics).
Despite all the care with which the Jaeger-LeCoultre masterwatchmakers have made and assembled your watch, its accuracy is subject to the influence of gravity, magnetic fields, impacts and ageing of the oils. The accuracy is measured by its rate regularity in various positions.
The nature of your constitution or lifestyle may lead to slight irregularities. If you observe slow or fast running of your watch, you are advised to take it to an approved JaegerLeCoultre retailer, who will make any necessary adjustments.
Quartz models
Jaeger-LeCoultre quartz watches contain a battery and electronic components. In service operations, your official Jaeger-LeCoultre Service Centre
or authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer will be responsible for recovering them and disposing of them in accordance with current standards.
The quartz models are accurate to within 2 to 3 minutes per year.
Water resistance
Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are water resistant to 3, 5, 10, 20, 30 or 100 atm, depending on the model (see technical characteristics). This proper ty is identifiable by the symbol engraved on the case-back. This means that your timekeeper has been tested to an immersion pressure equivalent to 30, 50, 100, 200, 300 or 1000 metres, according to the number of atmospheres shown beside the aforementioned symbol (1 atm = 10 metres).
Please note also that leather straps are not suitable for aquatic activities.
It is essential to have your watch’s water resistance checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer on a regular basis and definitely before any period in which it will be subjected to prolonged and/or regular immersion.
The “1000 Hours Control” test by Jaeger-LeCoultre
Jaeger-LeCoultre subjects its watches to the rigourous “1000 Hours Control” test programme. Unique in its kind, this test consists of 1000 hours of comprehensive, stringent checks.
The “1000 Hours Control” seal or marking affixed or engraved on the back of your watch certifies that it has undergone this observation programme in our laboratories and has passed all the tests : rate regularity checks, temperature and atmospheric pressure tests, resistance to impacts and magnetic fields and water resistance tests. Your watch is therefore capable of withstanding the trials of everyday life when you wear it on your wrist.
Compression keys
The compression key fitted on the crowns of Master Compressor line watch models is a patented system which enables additional compression of the 4 crown gaskets, which boosts your watch’s water resistance in the long term.
The “open” or “closed” position of the compression key is indicated by the arrow symbols (viewed from the front) :
- The compression key is in the compressed gasket position (“closed”) if the indicator shows only one arrow; the keys must be closed when you wear your watch and when you are taking part in spor ts. You must not make any adjustments or set the time in this position, since this might damage the gaskets.
- The compression key is in the non-compressed gasket position (“open”) if the indicator shows two arrows; in this configuration, you can then start the watch and set the functions as per the explanations below.
The switch from the “closed” to the “open” position, or viceversa, is made by turning the key using the wing-nuts in the direction indicated by the arrow(s).
Note :
The water-resistance function of the compression key is separate from the operation of the crown itself. Even in the closed position, the key does not lock the crown. So in practice it is possible to handle the crown when the key is in the compressed gasket position. However, as mentioned earlier, it is extremely inadvisable to make adjustments in this position, since this might damage the gaskets. We recommend that you first turn the compression key to the “open” position before making any adjustments to your watch.
Master Compressor Diving, diver’s watches satisfying the NIHS 92 -11 (ISO 6425) standards
Master Compressor Diving line watches, which bear the title “diving watches”, satisfy the requirements of the Swiss Watchmaking Industry Standard (NIHS) 92-11, reproducing the European standard ISO 6425.
Notice
As a precaution, we draw your attention to the following two recommendations :
- You must not adjust the crowns in water,
- You must not use Master Compressor Diving watches for deep dives (diving with a gas mixture, in which the diver spends alternating periods between the water and a pressurised chamber), or at a depth greater than that indicated.

Movement
Use
Starting the watch
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Crown “A” will then be in position 1.
A few clockwise turns of the crown will suffice to start the watch. It will then automatically wind up when you wear it. Please note that the crown does not lock on winding, even when the watch is fully wound.
Once the operation is complete, turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
Setting the time
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow.
Then pull crown A out to position 3.
The movement will then be locked (“stop seconds” function). To ensure accurate time setting in terms of seconds, stop the seconds hand at 60.
Move the hands forward clockwise to the desired time and, on the hour signal, push the crown back to position 1. The watch will start r unning again.
Once the operation is complete, turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
Setting the date
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow.
Then pull crown A out to position 2.
Move the date forward by turning the crown clockwise. Make the required number of turns until the desired date is displayed.
NB : Date corrections must not be made between 22.30 and 03.30. During this period the automatic date-change mechanism is already in action.
Once the operation is complete, push the crown back into position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
Chronograph operation
The central seconds hand on your Master Compressor Diving Chronograph watch displays the chronograph seconds with an eighth-of-a-second definition. A counter located at 3 o’clock times the minutes up to 30 minutes (after 1 revolution it starts counting another 30 minutes). Another counter located at 9 o’clock times the hours up to 12 hours (after one revolution it starts counting another 12 hours).
- Pushpiece at 2 o’clock : this pushpiece starts and stops the chronograph function.
- Pushpiece at 4 o’clock : this pushpiece resets the counters and the central seconds hand. When timing is in progress, pressing this pushpiece has no effect.
Each of these 2 pushpieces is fitted with wing-nuts with a patented compression system. This enables additional compression of one of the 3 pushpiece gaskets, ensuring optimum water resistance.
Another benefit of this system : it enables the pushpieces to be locked in the closed position, thereby preventing any unintentional adjustment of the chronograph.
To enable use of the chronograph functions, move the pushpieces into the “open” position by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn downward. The non-compressed gasket position (“open”) will be indicated by an arrow (front view of watch).

Timing
- Pressing once on the pushpiece at 2 o’clock activates the chronograph. The central seconds hand turns, and the minute and hour totalising counters will be running. Pressing the pushpiece at 2 o’clock again will stop the chronograph and give a time reading.
- Reset by pressing the pushpiece at 4 o’clock to make another timing measurement.
- It is possible to accumulate timing measurements by pressing the pushpiece at 2 o’clock again (without resetting the counters). Timing starts again and is added to the previous measurement.
Once the timing operation has been completed, move the pushpieces into the compressed gasket (“closed”) position by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn upward, in the direction shown by the single arrow.
Pulsometer
The pulsometer indicates the heart beats per minute of the watch wearer.
The inner ring of the Master Compressor Diving Chronograph watch is equipped with a heart rate reading scale, on the basis of 30 observed beats.
Using the pulsometer
- Set both the chronograph pushpieces to the “open” position by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn downward. The non-compressed gasket position (“open”) will be indicated by a single arrow (front view of watch).
- Reset the seconds hand by pressing the pushpiece at 4 o’clock to be ready to make another measurement.
- Put your hand on a part of your body where you can easily feel your heartbeats.
- Press the pushpiece at 2 o’clock once and count your beats. The central seconds hand will turn (the minute and hour totalising counters will also be running, but are not used for this measurement).
- When you feel the 30
th
beat, press the pushpiece at
2 o’clock again to stop the chronograph.
- Read the number of beats per minute indicated by the central seconds hand on the pulsometer ring scale.
- Set the pushpieces to the compressed gasket position (“closed”) by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn upward, in the direction shown by the arrow.
Operating indicator
The aperture at 6 o’clock reveals a two-coloured luminous disc which completes one revolution every 60 seconds. This function, known as the operating indicator, indicates that the watch is running.
Diving bezel
The Master Compressor Diving Chronograph watch model is equipped with a one-way rotating bezel (can only be turned anti-clockwise), with a mark every minute.
It can measure a particular time using the luminous white triangular marking as a reference point in relation to the hour hand or minute hand.
To move the diving bezel, you need only grip it with two fingers and turn it anti-clockwise to the desired position.

Movement
Functions and displays
The Master Compressor Diving GMT watch model features a double set of hands which enables the local time on the main display to be changed rapidly by moving the corresponding hand forward or backward in 1-hour jumps, while maintaining a reference time by means of a second hour hand.
The watch offers the following functions :
- Local time, with 2-way independent quick setting.
- Date synchronised with local time; 2-way adjustment.
- 24-hour reference time (2
nd
time zone).
- Minutes.
- Operating indicator.
You can use the local time and reference time displays at your convenience, according to the options listed below. Whichever one you choose, the local time function enables you to move the hour hand of the main display rapidly in 1-hour jumps in either direction, while driving the date.
- Display the same time on the local time display and reference time display. In this configuration, when you are travelling, you will have your travel time displayed on the main set of hands, while the reference hands (2
nd
time zone) will keep track of your home time. On returning from your trip, you can restore your home time to the main display just as quickly.
- Set the time of another time zone on the reference time display, so as to keep permanent track of the time there, with day/night indicator (24-hour display).
- Show the official GMT time on the reference time display, so that any time zone can be deduced from its difference from the time in the second time zone, and can then be displayed with the local hands.
Use
Crown A (at 3 o’clock) is used for :
- Winding the watch if it has not been worn for over 48 hours (position 1).
- Setting local time and date (position 2).
- Setting the time in the 2
nd
time zone (or reference time)
(position 3).
The settings must be made in the order indicated below, as per the following instructions :
1) Reference time (2
nd
time zone), and minutes.
2) Date.
3) Local time.
Setting the reference time (2nd time zone)
This setting drives all functions : reference time (time in the 2
nd
time zone), local time, minutes, date. It firstly enables you
to set the reference time (second time zone), and also to make an accurate minutes setting.
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow.
Then pull crown A out to position 3.
The movement will then be locked (the operating indicator will also stop).
Move the reference time (second time zone) hour hand and minute hand forward in either direction to the desired time, taking the 24-hour display into account.
NB : During this operation, the local time hour hand (and the date) is driven, maintaining its difference from the reference time. The local time will be set independently, as indicated below.
Once the operation is complete, push the crown back into position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.

Setting the date
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow.
Then pull crown A out to position 2.
You may turn the crown in either direction, as the main hour hand and the date are driven either forward or backward depending on the chosen direction. Note that to correct the date by one day, the local time hand must complete two revolutions of the dial. The minutes hand keeps running, maintaining an accurate watch setting. The hour hand moves in 1-hour jumps.
Turn the crown forward or backward (depending on the closest distance between the date indicated and the desired date), and turn the hour hand as many times as necessary until the desired date is displayed.
Setting the local time (main display)
After setting the date, move the local time forward or backward past midnight to bring it to the desired time, in order to take account of the date indicator :
- You have turned the crown clockwise : if the date moves forward when the hands pass midnight, you are moving into the morning.
- You have turned the crown anti-clockwise : if the date moves backward when the hands pass midnight, you are moving back into the evening.
Once the operation is complete, push the crown back into position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
Operating indicator
The aperture at 6 o’clock reveals a two-coloured luminous disc, which completes one revolution every 60 seconds. This function, known as the operating indicator, indicates that the watch is running.
Diving bezel
The Master Compressor Diving GMT watch model is equipped with a one-way rotating bezel (i.e. one that can only be turned anti-clockwise), with a mark every minute.
It can measure a particular time using the luminous white triangular marking as a reference point in relation to the hour hand or minute hand.
To move the diving bezel, you need only grip it with two fingers and turn it anti-clockwise to the desired position.
