Introduction
We congratulate you on the acquisition of your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, and thank you for your con dence.
We invite you to consult the operating instructions and hope your JaegerLeCoultre timepiece brings you great enjoyment.
Accuracy and precautions for use
Mechanical manually-wound or automatic watches
The precision of watch models with mechanical movements is determined by the balance. The latter oscillates at a rate of 21,600 or 28,800 vibrations per hour. Despite all the care that the master-watchmakers of the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre have lavished on building and assembling your watch, its accuracy is subject to the in uence of gravity, magnetic  elds, impacts, as well as ageing of the oils. The precision of a watch is measured by its regularity of rate in various positions.
Your individual temperament and your activities may result in slight irregularities. If you were to observe a discrepancy in the running of your watch, we advise you to entrust it to an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailers who will perform the necessary adjustments. Watches with mechanical movements must not be used while practicing sports which may involve impacts or abrupt actions, such as golf or tennis for example.
Quartz models
Quartz models are accurate to within 2 to 3 minutes a year. Jaeger-LeCoultre quartz watches contain a battery and electronic elements. When performing
a maintenance service, your Jaeger-LeCoultre authorised Technical Assistance Centre or your authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer will recover such components and ensure they are eliminated in accordance with the prevailing standards.
Water-resistance
Your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is water-resistant to 10 bar/atm. The water-resistance of your watch is identi able by the symbol engraved on the back. This means that your timepiece has been tested at an overpressure of 10 bar, corresponding to an immersion pressure of 100 metres (1 bar/atm = approx. 10 metres).
English
28
In accordance with the ISO 22810/NIHS 92-20 standard, in order to guarantee the durability of the watch’s characteristics over time and as the water-resistance may be affected by certain activities, it is recommended that the user:
- have the water-resistance of the watch checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer, in accordance with the recommendations of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture and at any event after each opening of the case, in which case it is advisable to perform an air overpressure test
- check when making the purchase that the strap or bracelet is suitable for the intended use
- avoid subjecting the watch to excessively abrupt temperature changes
- protect the watch from being dropped or suffering other shocks (have the watch checked after any violent impact)
- avoid the use of the controls, push-piece or time-setting crown while under water or before the watch has dried after immersion
- restore the time-setting crown and the push-pieces to their normal positions (or, where applicable, close the compression key) after every manipulation
- rinse the watch with fresh water after use in sea-water.
You may use your watch during short swims, and when jumping in from the edge of a swimming pool but not from a diving board. Your watch must not be used for scuba diving or for sports involving signi cant risk of impact, such as windsur ng or waterskiing. Also note that leather straps are not suited to aquatic activities.
Furthermore, it is vital to have the water-resistance of your watch checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer at least once every two years, and at any event before any period during which it is liable to undergo prolonged and/or regular immersions.
“1000 Hours Control” test
Jaeger-LeCoultre submits all its watches to the stringent “1000 Hours Control”, a unique battery of comprehensive and rigorous internal tests lasting a full 1000 hours.
The “1000 Hours Control” seal or legend placed or engraved on the back of your watch certi es that the latter has undergone this programme of observation in our laboratories and has successfully passed all the tests relating to regularity of rate, temperature, atmospheric pressure, resistance to shocks and magnetic  elds, as well as water-resistance trials. Your watch is thus capable of withstanding
29
the daily stresses and strains that await it when worn on your wrist. The criteria of the “1000 Hours Control” programme considerably exceed the
standards of of cial timing tests, which deal only with part of the movement. Jaeger-LeCoultre tests not only the movement prior to its being cased up in the
watch, but also the watch as a whole.
Compression keys
Equipping the crowns of the Master Compressor line models, the patented compression key system can apply strong compression to one of the 4 crown seals, thereby ensuring impeccable long-term water resistance.
The “open” or “closed” position of the compression key is indicated by the arrow symbols (viewed from the dial side):
- The compression key is in the compressed seal position (“closed”) if the indication is a white arrow; the keys must be closed when you wear your watch and when you are taking part in sports. You must not make any adjustments or set the time in this position, since this might damage the gaskets.
- The compression key is in the non-compressed seal position (“open”) if the indication is represented by two red arrows; in this conguration, you may proceed to start the watch and adjust the functions according to the indications below.
The transition from the “closed” to the “open” position, or vice-versa, is performed by turning the key using the wing-nuts in the direction indicated by the arrow(s).

Note The water-resistance function of the compression key is separate from the
operation of the crown itself. Even in “closed” position, the key does not lock the crown. It is therefore possible, in practice, to handle the crown when the key is in the compressed seal position. However, as mentioned earlier, it is extremely inadvisable to make adjustments in this position, since this might damage the seals. We recommend that you rst turn the compression key to the “open” position before performing any adjustments on your watch.
Adjusting the clasp
The clasp of your watch is  tted with a length-change system enabling you to lengthen or shorten your bracelet by 4 mm on each side, for enhanced wearer comfort.
Using the ne adjustment system
Transition from the long position to the short position:
Remove your watch.
Hold your clasp open between the thumb and forenger of one hand, with the bracelet section in your other hand (g. 1).

Lift up the clasp cover so as to release the tip-over part of the bracelet section from its groove (g. 2).
Fig. 2 Long position
Push the tip-over part of your bracelet section and place it in its groove, facing the opposite way to its initial position (g. 3).
Fig. 3 Shortened position
The transition from the short to the long position is done in the same manner, but in the opposite direction (g. 4).

Use
Starting the watch
Crown A Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the
arrow. Crown “A” is then in position 1. A few clockwise turns of the crown are enough to set the watch running. It is then automatically wound when you wear it. Please note that the crown does not lock when winding, even when the watch is fully wound.
When the operation is completed, turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
33
Time setting
Crown A Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Then pull crown A out to position 3. The movement is thus locked (“stop seconds” function). To enable precise time setting in seconds, stop the seconds hand at 60. Move the hands forward clockwise up to the desired time and, on the hour
signal, push the crown back to position 1. The watch starts running again. When the operation is completed, turn the compression key to the “closed”
position in the direction of the arrows.
Setting the date
Crown A Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Then pull crown A out to position 2. Move the date forward by turning the crown clockwise. Perform the required
number of turns until the desired date is displayed.

34
Note: Date correction should not be performed between 10:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. During this period the automatic date-change mechanism is already in action.
When the operation is completed, push the crown back to position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
Chronograph operation
The central seconds hand on the Master Compressor Chronograph displays the chronograph seconds to the nearest quarter of a second. A counter located at 3 o’clock totals the minutes up to 30 minutes (after one turn it continues to count another 30 minutes). Another counter located at 9 o’clock totals the hours up to 12 hours (after one turn it continues to count another 12 hours).
- Pushpiece at 2 o’clock: this pushpiece enables the chronograph function to be started and stopped.
- Pushpiece at 4 o’clock: this pushpiece resets the counters and the central seconds hand. When timing is in progress, a press on this pushpiece has no effect.
Each of these two pushpieces is tted with a patented wing-nut with compression system. This permits strong compression of one of the three pushpiece seals, ensuring optimum water resistance.
Another benet of this system: it enables operation of the pushpieces to be locked in the closed position, thus preventing any unintentional handling of the chronograph.
To be able to use the chronograph functions, move the pushpieces into the “open” position by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn upwards. The noncompressed seal position (“open”) is then indicated by an arrow (front view of watch).
35
Timing
- Pressing once on the pushpiece at 2 o’clock activates the chronograph. The central seconds hand turns and the minute and hour totaliser counters are in operation. A second press on the pushpiece at 2 o’clock stops the chronograph and enables reading of the time measured.
- Reset by pressing the pushpiece at 4 o’clock to be ready to perform another timing operation.
- It is possible add up several timing operations by pressing again on the pushpiece at 2 o’clock (without having to reset the counters).
Timing starts again and is added to the previous measurement. When the timing operation is completed, move the pushpieces into the
compressed seal position (“closed”) by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn downwards, in the direction shown by the arrow.
The tachometer on the xed inner bezel ring
The tachometer is an instrument for measuring speed. The inner bezel ring on the Master Compressor Chronograph is equipped with a scale which enables the speed to be read in km/h, using the seconds hand between two points one kilometre apart.

36
Use
- Move the two pushpieces into the “open” position by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn upwards. The non-compressed seal position (“open”) is then indicated by an arrow (front view of watch).
- Reset the seconds hand by pressing the pushpiece at 4 o’clock to be ready to perform another measurement.
- At the starting point, press once on the pushpiece at 2 o’clock. The central seconds hand turns (the minute and hour totaliser counters are also in operation but are not used for tachometer measurement).
- At the point of arrival one kilometre away, press again the pushpiece at 2 o’clock to stop the chronograph.
- Read the speed which is now indicated by the seconds hand on the scale of the tachometer inner bezel ring.
37
- Move the pushpieces into the compressed seal position (“closed”) by turning the wing-nuts a quarter of a turn downwards, in the direction shown by the arrow.
Interchangeable strap system
The base of your watch case is tted with an integrated interchangeability system allowing the strap to be changed easily. It consists of a pushbutton which shifts part of the space between the horns to release the strap’s spring bar from its housing in the lugs.
Removing the strap sections from the case
- Hold the back of the watch case between the thumb and forenger of one hand (A).
- Hold the strap section between the thumb and forenger of your other hand (B).
Closed position
Position when the strap is released
English
38
- With the thumb of hand B, push the button rmly against the case, and while maintaining the pressure pull the strap section toward you to remove it.
- Proceed in the same way for the other section.
Fitting the strap sections on the case
- Hold the strap section between the thumb and forenger of your other hand.
- Hold the strap section between the thumb and forenger of your other hand, and position its spring bar in the lug housings.
- While maintaining the strap parallel with the case, insert the spring bar rmly into the housings.
If you change strap, you can t the folding clasp on your new strap:
Removing the folding clasp
- With one hand hold the strap section, and take the tool in the other hand. Position the tool vertically on the end of the visible spring bar. Press vertically, and the spring bar will be released.
39
- While maintaining pressure on the spring bar, tilt the strap section outward to release it.
Retting the folding clasp
- Place one end of the strap section spring bar in the appropriate clasp housing.
- With one hand hold the strap section in the housing, and take the tool in the other hand. Position the tool vertically on the other end of the bar. Press vertically.
- While maintaining pressure on the spring bar, bring the strap section back against the clasp. Release the pressure on the bar at the last minute so that the spring has time to insert the bar in its housing.
