Jaeger-leCoultre GMT Navy SEALs User Manual

Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, and thank you for your confidence.
Produced in partnership with the elite divers of the American armed forces, the United States Navy SEALs, this new generation diving watch is distinguished by a case with extreme high-pressure water-resistance.
A genuine professional diving tool inspired by the equipment of this special unit, the Master Compressor Diving Chronograph GMT Navy SEALs offers perfect readability thanks to oversized and luminescent-coated numerals, hourmarkers and hands. The unidirectional bezel enables elapsed dive times to be calculated using its luminous reference triangle.
Please check through the operating instructions for your Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece: we hope that you will be very happy with it.
Accuracy
Accuracy is ensured by the balance, which completes 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Despite all the care with which the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre master watchmakers have made and assembled your watch, its accuracy is subject to the influence of gravity, magnetic fields, impacts and ageing of the oils. Watch accuracy is measured by rate regularity in a variety of positions.
The nature of your constitution or lifestyle may lead to slight irregularities. If you obser ve irregular running of your watch, you are advised to take it to an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer, who will make any necessary adjustments.
Water-resistance
Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are water-resistant to 3, 5, 10, 20, 30 or 100 atm, depending on the model (see technical specifications). This proper ty can be identified by the
symbol engraved on the case-back. This means that your timepiece has been tested to an immersion pressure equivalent to 30, 50, 100, 200, 300 or 1000 metres, according to the number shown beside the aforementioned symbol (1 atm = 10 metres).
Please also note that leather straps are not suited to water sports.
The «1000 Hours Control» test by Jaeger-LeCoultre
Jaeger-LeCoultre subjects each of its watches to the rigourous “1000 Hours Control” test programme. Unique in its kind, this programme consists of 1000 hours of comprehensive, stringent checks.
The criteria of the “1000 Hours Control” programme go far beyond the official timekeeping test standards, which concern only part of the movement.
Jaeger-LeCoultre tests not only the movement before casing it within the watch, but also the watch as a whole.

Compression keys
The compression key fitted on the crowns of Master Compressor line watches is a patented system enabling additional compression of one of the 4 crown gaskets, which boosts your watch’s long-term water-resistance.
The “open” or “closed” position of the compression key is indicated by the arrow symbols (viewed from the front):
- The compression key is in the compressed gasket position (“closed”) if the indicator shows only one arrow; the keys must be closed when you wear your watch and when you are taking par t in sports. You must not make any adjustments or set the time in this position, since this might damage the gaskets.
- The compression key is in the non-compressed gasket position (“open”) if the indication is represented by two arrows; in this configuration, you can start the watch and set the functions as per the explanations below.
The switch from «closed» to «open» position or vice-versa is made by turning the key using the wing-nuts in the direction indicated by the arrow(s).
Note
The water-resistance function of the compression key is separate from the operation of the crown itself. Even in the closed position, the key does not lock the crown. So in practice it is possible to operate the crown when the key is in the compressed gasket position. However, as mentioned earlier, it is extremely inadvisable to make adjustments in this position, since this might damage the gaskets. We recommend that you first turn the compression key to the “open” position before making any adjustments to your watch.
Master Compressor Diving, divers’ watches meeting the NIHS 92-11 (ISO 6425) standards
Master Compressor Diving line watches that bear the title “diving watches” satisfy the requirements of the Swiss Watchmaking Industry Standard (NIHS) 92-11, reproducing the European standard ISO 6425.
Warning
As a precaution, we draw your attention to the following two recommendations:
- You must not operate the crowns in water,
- You must not use Master Compressor Diving watches for deep dives (diving with a gas mixture, in which the diver spends alternating periods between the water and a pressurised chamber), or at a depth greater than that indicated.

Use
Star ting the watch
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Crown A will then be in position 1. A few clockwise turns of the crown will suffice to start the watch. It will then automatically wind up when you wear it. Please note that the crown does not lock on winding, even when the watch is fully wound.
Once the operation is complete, turn the compression key to the «closed» position in the direction of the arrows.

Setting the hour and minute
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Then pull crown A out to position 3.
The movement will be locked and the operating indicator will stop.
Operating indicator
The seconds hand completes one revolution in 60 seconds. This also shows you that the watch is running.
Setting the date
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Then pull crown A out to position 2.
This timepiece features a date display window at 3 o’clock and a rapid correction system. If you have to move the date one day forward, turn crown A (in position 2) anti-clockwise.
Repeat the operation until the desired date is displayed. For months of less than 31 days, follow the same procedure to move on to the 1
st
of the month.
Once the operation is complete, push crown A back into position 1 and turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
10.30 p.m. and 3.30 a.m. During this period the automatic date-change mechanism is already in action.
Setting the second time-zone
Crown A
Turn the compression key to the “open” position in the direction of the arrow. Then pull crown A out to position 2.
Turn crown A (in position 2) clockwise. The second timezone hour hand will make one-hour jumps. This mechanism actuates the day/night indicator at 12 o’clock. Move the hand forward to the desired time, taking into account the day/night indicator.
Once the operation is complete, push the crown back into position 1. The watch will star t running again. Then turn the compression key to the “closed” position in the direction of the arrows.
Chronograph operation
The central seconds hand on the Master Compressor Diving Chronograph GMT Navy SEALs watch displays the chronograph seconds with an eighth-of-a-second definition. A counter located at 3 o’clock tallies the minutes up to 30 minutes (after 1 revolution it will start counting another 30 minutes).
Another counter at 9 o’clock tallies the hours up to 12 hours (after one revolution it will start counting another 12 hours).
- Push-piece at 2 o’clock: this push-piece starts and stops the
chronograph function.
- Push-piece at 4 o’clock: this push-piece resets the counters
and the central seconds hand. When timing is in progress, pressing this push-piece has no effect.
Each of these 2 push-pieces features a wing-nut with patented compression system. This enables additional compression of one of the 3 push-piece gaskets, to ensure optimum waterresistance. Another benefit of this system: it enables the pushpieces to be locked in the closed position, thereby preventing any unintentional operation of the chronograph.
To enable use of the chronograph functions, move the pushpieces into the “open” position by turning the wing-nuts a quarter-turn downward. The non-compressed gasket position (“open”) will be indicated by an arrow (front view of watch).
Timing
Timing
- The chronograph is activated by pressing the push-piece at
2 o’clock once. The central seconds hand will turn, and the minute and hour timing counters will run. Pressing the pushpiece at 2 o’clock again will stop the chronograph, enabling the timing measurement to be read.
- Reset by pressing the push-piece at 4 o’clock to make
another timing measurement.
- It is possible to add together several timing measurements
by pressing the push-piece at 2 o’clock again (without resetting the counters).
Timing is re-star ted, and is added to the previous measurement. Once the timing operation is complete, move the push-pieces to the compressed gasket (“closed”) position by turning the wing-nuts a quar ter-turn upward, in the direction shown by the single arrow.

Diving bezel
Your Master Compressor Diving Chronograph watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel (i.e. one that can only be turned anti-clockwise), with a mark every minute.
It can measure a particular time using the luminescent white triangular marker as a reference point in relation to the hour hand or minute hand.
To move the diving bezel, you need only grip it with two fingers and turn it anti-clockwise to the desired position.
Adjusting the wristlet
Note: the wristlet illustrations below may not correspond to either your wristlet or your watch, but the demonstration illustrated is completely identical and valid.
Adjusting the clasp
The clasp on metal bracelets and articulated rubber straps is fitted with an adjustment system enabling you to lengthen or shorten your wristlet by 4 mm on either side, for greater wearer comfort.
Using the fine adjustment system
Switch from the long position to the short position:
Remove your watch.
Hold your clasp open between the thumb and forefinger of one hand, with the wristlet section in your other hand (fig. 1).
Fig. 1
Lift up the clasp cover so as to release the hinged part of the wristlet section from its groove (fig. 2).
Fig. 2 Long position
Push down the hinged part of your wristlet section and place it in its groove, facing the opposite way to its initial position (fig. 3).
Fig. 3 Shortened position
The switch from the short to the long position is made in the same way, but in reverse order (fig. 4).

Removing and refitting wristlets
To alter the wristlet of your Master Compressor Diving, you can remove and refit the wristlet sections.
Removing the wristlet
Refitting the wristlet
Hold the case in one hand, with the watch placed crystal down on a support.
With the other hand grip the “fork” tool supplied with the watch, and slide it between the horn and wristlet, in order to grip the wristlet bar between the teeth of the fork.
Make sure that the tool is correctly positioned on the bar, on the retractable end of its spindle.
The bar is equipped with a spindle mounted on a spring, which needs to be released. To do so, press the tool onto the bar’s retractable end, sliding it on laterally (from the opposite side of
the horn) to move the spring.
Once the spring has been released, take out the bar, and pull the wristlet section towards you to extract it.
Bar retractable
end
Insert one end of the bar into the hole in the horn of the case, and hold it firmly.
Take the tool supplied, and position it on the free retractable end of the bar. Holding the tool in this position, press sideways (from the opposite side of the horn) to push the spring back inside the bar.
Move the retracted bar to over the housing hole in the horn, and release it so as to engage the spring.
Make sure that the wristlet is properly fitted by pulling gently
on the section.
