Introduction
Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon
Over the past decade, the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre, building
on a longstanding tradition of inventiveness and unique expertise,
has displayed exceptional creativity, achieving technical performances that have enabled it to develop some of the most noteworthy
complications of the early 21
st
century.
Armed with exceptional horological know-how, Jaeger-LeCoultre
gladly starts with a blank page for each new creation in order to
combine aesthetic elegance, technical performance and unique
functions.
Today, the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux is propelling
watchmaking firmly into the third millennium. The Duomètre
à Sphérotourbillon unites peerless technical performance, elegance and a spectacular complication.
Le Sphérotourbillon :
A precision-adjusted tourbillon
Precision is the cornerstone of the Dual-Wing concept and was
the watchword for the Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmakers in their
reflection leading to the creation of the Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon. The result is a watch that can legitimately claim to be
the first tourbillon watch adjustable to the nearest second. For
what’s the point of precision if you can’t display it?
There are indeed very few tourbillon models with an extremely readable display of the seconds in a dedicated subdial,
and even fewer with a stop seconds device. Cer tainly none
until now had ever enabled the user to stop the seconds hand
and bring it back to zero in order to perform an ultra-accurate
time setting.
Using the Dual-Wing concept enabled the Jaeger-LeCoultre
watchmakers to create the first precision-adjusted tourbillon.
A push-piece at 2 o’clock serves to bring the small seconds
hand positioned beneath the tourbillon back to zero, according to the flyback principle.

One special feature of this flyback system is that it does not
halt the operation of the regulating organ. The small seconds
hand is reset to zero and begins running again instantly. This
means the watch maintains optimal precision even when
accurately adjusting the time to the nearest second.
A multi-axis tourbillon
Above and beyond its exemplary reliability, the chief characteristic of this Sphérotourbillon watch is its tourbillon.
The openworked dial provides a fascinating view of the tourbillon performing an extremely unusual rotation movement.
As well as revolving around the axis of its titanium carriage,
the tourbillon also spins around a second axis, inclined at a 20°
angle. The combination of these two distinct and fast rotations
(respectively 30 and 15 seconds per revolution) serves to free
the watch from the effects of gravity.
This spectacular tourbillon incorporates all the innovations
that enabled Jaeger-LeCoultre to win a brilliant victory in
the first official timing competition of the 21st century. The
carriage machined from a single block of titanium features a combination of lightness and extreme precision. The
cylindrical balance-spring with its two terminal curves beats
with a concentricity impossible to achieve with a traditional
balance-spring. The balance with its generous inertia oscillates at a cadence of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The balancespring stud-holder is protected by a screw-locking system
from the effects of shocks and vibrations to which the watch
is subjected.
An exceptional design
This technological complexity nonetheless remains extremely
beautiful. The innovative spirit of the watch merges with an
inspired design inspired by vintage pocket-watches and designed to endow it with a blend of elegance and refinement.
The level of finishing of the ébauches made in non-treated
nickel silver accentuates the sense of exclusivity exuded by the
Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature
“côtes soleillées”, clean-cut exterior and internal angles, harmonious shapes: the appearance of Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre
382 is the very epitome of the watchmaking art.
Demonstrating profound respect for ideal proportions and
watchmaking design codes, expressed through the sophisticated pink gold case, the restrained, highly readable dial, the
polished bezel and lugs, and the satin-brushed case middle, the
signature aesthetic characteristics of the Duomètre are meticulously preserved in this model and create a striking contrast
with the level of complexity of the movement housed within.

Accuracy
Manually wound or automatic mechanical watches
The precision of watch models with mechanical movements
is determined by the balance. The latter oscillates at a rate of
21,600 vibrations per hour. Despite all the care that the master watchmakers of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture have
lavished on building and assembling your watch, its accuracy is
subject to the influence of gravity, magnetic fields, impacts and
ageing of the oils. The precision of a watch is measured by its
regularity of rate in various positions.
Your individual temperament and your activities could be the cause
of slight irregularities. If you obser ve a discrepancy in the running
of your watch, we advise you to entrust it to an authorised JaegerLeCoultre retailer who will perform the necessary adjustments.
Water-resistance
Your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is water-resistant to 5 bar/atm. The
water-resistance of your watch is identifiable by the
symbol engraved on the back. This means that your timepiece has
been tested at an overpressure of 5 bar, corresponding to an
immersion pressure 50 metres (1 bar/atm = approx. 10 metres).
In accordance with the ISO 22810/NIHS 92-20 standard, in
order to guarantee the durability of the watch’s characteristics
over time and as the water-resistance may be affected by certain
activities, it is recommended that the user:
- have the water-resistance of the watch checked by an
authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer, in accordance with the
recommendations of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture
and at any event after each opening of the case, in which
case it is advisable to perform an air overpressure test;
- check when making the purchase that the strap or bracelet
is suitable for the intended use;
- avoid subjecting the watch to excessively abrupt temperature changes;
- protect the watch from being dropped or suffering other
shocks (have the watch checked after any violent impact);
- avoid the use of the controls, push-piece or time-setting crown
while under water or before the watch has dried after immersion;
- restore the time-setting crown and the push-pieces to their
normal positions (or, where applicable, close the compression key) after every manipulation;
- rinse the watch with fresh water after use in sea-water.
You may use your watch during short swims, and when jumping
in from the edge of a swimming pool but not from a diving board.
Your watch must not be used for scuba diving or for sports involving significant risk of impact, such as windsurfing or water-skiing.
Also note that leather straps are not suited to aquatic activities.
Furthermore, it is vital to have the water-resistance of your watch
checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer at least once
every two years, and at any event before any period during which
it is liable to undergo prolonged and/or regular immersions.
Jaeger-LeCoultre
“1000 Hours Control” test
Jaeger-LeCoultre submits all its watches to the stringent “1000
Hours Control” test, a unique battery of comprehensive and
rigorous tests lasting a full 1000 hours.
The “1000 Hours Control” seal or legend placed or engraved
on the back of your watch certifies that the latter has undergone this programme of observation in our laboratories
and has successfully passed all the tests relating to regularity
of rate, temperature, atmospheric pressure and resistance to
shocks and magnetic fields, as well as water-resistance trials.
Your watch is thus capable of withstanding the daily stresses
and strains that await it when worn on your wrist.
The criteria of the “1000 Hours Control” programme considerably exceed the standards of official timing tests, which
deal only with part of the movement.
Jaeger-LeCoultre tests not only the movement prior to its
being cased up in the watch, but also the watch as a whole.

Movement
Important remark regarding the power reserves of the
Calibre 382 Dual-Wing of the Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon
watch model.
The Dual-Wing movement of the Duomètre à Chronographe
watch model comprises two barrels. The first barrel provides
the watch’s regulator (regulating organ) with 45 hours of power
reserve. The second barrel, which is independent from the first,
provides all the watch’s functions with 45 hours of power reserve.
The power reserve of the regulator is read off by means of
the blue hand situated at 1 o’clock and marked “regulator”. The
power reserve of the regulator is read off by means of the hand
situated at 5 o’clock and marked “hour”.
In both cases, the power reserve is at its maximum when
the hand is positioned opposite the “+” symbol. As energy is

consumed, the hand will gradually point towards the “-” symbol. When the hand is opposite the “-” symbol (after approximately 45 hours for both the escapement and the functions), this
indicates that the power reserve has been exhausted. This is the
last chance to wind up the watch without losing the settings.
Both barrels can be wound using crown A, in position 1.
Turning the crown counter-clockwise winds the regulator bar-
rel, thereby increasing its power reserve.
Turning the crown clockwise winds the functions barrel, thereby
increasing its power reserve.
Important:
Although the two power reserves are independent, it is vital
that both are wound before the timepiece can be used.
If one of the power reserves is depleted, the movement will
stop (no damage will be caused to the movement). It will thus
be necessary to wind the two power reserves according to the
instructions to restart the calibre.

Use
Starting the watch
Crown A in position 1.
The watch is started by turning the crown counter-clockwise
to wind the regulator barrel and then clockwise to wind
the functions barrel. The watch is fully wound when the two
power-reserve hands reach the “+” symbol. There is no stop
to tell you that the movement has been fully wound, as excess
winding is absorbed by a slipping spring. This prevents damaging the going train.
Setting the hour and the date
- Setting the reference time-zone – 24-hour dial
The Duomètre à Sphértourbillon watch has a “reference
time-zone” display thanks to a 24-hour subdial at 12 o’clock.
This “reference time-zone” 24-hour subdial may be used to
indicate your “reference time” (the time in your home city)
when you are travelling, or to indicate the time in another
time-zone that interests you.
Pull the crown out to position 3. Set the hour and minutes of
the “reference time-zone”. The hours are read off on the 24-

hour subdial at 12 o’clock marked “time-zone”. The minutes
are read off on the main dial positioned at 3 o’clock.
- Setting the travel time-zone and date – main dial
The Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon watch has a “travel
time-zone” hour display (main dial positioned at 3 o’clock).
If you want the “travel time-zone” main dial at 3 o’clock and the
24-hour “reference time-zone” subdial at 12 o’clock to indicate
the same time, proceed to the step involving:
Synchronising the reference time-zone (24-hour subdial) and
the travel time-zone (main dial)
Return the crown to position 2. Adjust the travel time-zone
(main dial at 3 o’clock) in one-hour increments until it matches
the time shown on the 24-hour dial; the date will automatically
follow the time setting. The two dials (indicating the time in the
reference time-zone and the time in the travel timezone) now
show the same time. They are synchronised.
If you are travelling and wish to adjust the time on the main
dial to the time in the local destination, or if you have set
the reference time on the 24-hour subdial to a time different from your local time, proceed to the step involving:
Setting the time and adjusting the date of the travel time-zone
(main dial)
When you wish to change the time and date of the travel
time-zone (main dial), pull the crown out to position 2. Proceed to set the time and adjust the date of the travel timezone. The time-setting is done in one-hour increments, and the
date automatically follows the time adjustment.
Small seconds flyback system
The Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon features a unique small
seconds flyback system (subdial at 6 o’clock). The latter serves to reset the small seconds to zero by means of a pushpiece (located at 2 o’clock), thereby ensuring extraordinarily
accurate time-setting on stroke of the hour.
Pressing the push-piece at 2 o’clock brings the hand of the
small seconds display (subdial at 6 o’clock) back to zero
before instantly resuming its path. This function serves to
ensure time-setting of the timepiece on the stroke of the hour,
thereby enhancing the precision of the watch. This function
may also be used for short-time measurements (under 60
seconds). Also note that, thanks to the patented Dual-Wing
system, the escapement continues running during the small
seconds “flyback” operation.

International Guarantee
This International Guarantee applies to Jaeger-LeCoultre products sold or presented for guarantee repairs in all countries
except the United States of America and Canada (for those
two countries, see the Limited Warranty on pages 51 to 53).
The manufacturer’s International Guarantee applies only to
Jaeger-LeCoultre products purchased from authorised JaegerLeCoultre retailers. In addition, all maintenance and repair
works must be carried out either by an authorised JaegerLeCoultre retailer or by an official Jaeger-LeCoultre Service
Centre. If these conditions are not met, the manufacturer’s

Your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is guaranteed against all manufacturing defects for two years from the date of purchase,
subject to the following conditions.
Any par t found by our technical services to be defective as
a result of a manufacturing defect will, at the sole discretion
of Jaeger-LeCoultre, be repaired or replaced free of charge.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre International Guarantee is valid only if
the guarantee certificate enclosed with this booklet has been
duly completed, dated, stamped and signed by the authorised
Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer who sold your watch.
This Jaeger-LeCoultre International Guarantee does not cover
defects resulting from accidents, mishandling or incorrect
or abusive use (for example, knocks, dents, crushing, excessive temperatures, powerful magnetic fields), the use of or
effect of using batteries other than those designated by JaegerLeCoultre, unauthorised alteration or repair or the consequences of normal wear and ageing of the watch, the strap
or the glass, the loss of water-resistance after two years from
the date of purchase if your watch is water-resistant, or any
defect resulting from contact with water if your watch is not
water-resistant.
Jaeger-LeCoultre water-resistant watches may be identified by
the
symbol engraved on the back. Their water-resistance is guaranteed for two years from the date of purchase,
provided that the glass, the bezel, the back, the middlepart and
the crown have not been damaged. It is essential to have the
water-resistance checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre
retailer or an official Jaeger-LeCoultre Service Centre at least
once a year, and in any event, prior to any period of intensive use
(please refer to the operating instructions for further details).
For quartz watches, this guarantee does not cover the battery life.
As a consumer, you may have legal rights under applicable national

The liability of Jaeger-LeCoultre is limited solely and exclusively
to repair or replacement under the terms and conditions stated
herein. Jaeger-LeCoultre shall not be liable, by virtue of this Limited
Warranty or otherwise, for any loss or damage arising out of the
use of or inability to use this watch nor for any incidental or consequential damages relating in any way to this watch.
Some States, Provinces and Territories do not allow limitations on
how long an implied warranty lasts or the exclusion or limitation
of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations
or exclusions may not apply to you.
