Introduction
We would like to thank you for the confidence
you have placed in Jaeger-LeCoultre. Our
Maison has applied all its expertise and passion
to the creation of this model.
We invite you to consult the operating
instructions and hope your Jaeger-LeCoultre
timepiece brings you great joy.
Accuracy and precautions for use
MANUALLY WOUND OR AUTOMATIC
MECHANICAL WATCHES
The accuracy of watch models with mechanical
movements is determined by the balance
wheel. This oscillates at a rate of 21,600
vibrations per hour. Despite all the care that the
master watchmakers of the Jaeger-LeCoultre
Manufacture have lavished on building and
assembling your watch, its accuracy is subject
to the influence of gravity, magnetic fields,
accidental impacts, and the ageing of oils.
The accuracy of a watch is measured by its

22
regularity of rate in various positions.
Your individual activities could be the cause
of slight irregularities in the working of your
timepiece. If you observe a discrepancy in the
way your watch runs, we advise you to entrust it
to an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer who
will make the necessary adjustments. Watches
with mechanical movements must not be used
for sports involving significant risk of impact or
abrupt actions, such as golf or tennis.
Water resistance
Your Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is water resistant
up to 5 bar. Its water resistance can be identified
by the symbol engraved on the case-back.
This means that your model has been tested at
an overpressure of 5 bar, corresponding to an
immersion pressure of 50 metres (1 bar = ±10
metres).
In accordance with the ISO 22810/NIHS 92-20
standard, in order to guarantee the durability
of the watch’s characteristics over time, and
as water resistance may be affected by certain
activities, it is recommended that the user:

23
- have the watch’s water resistance checked
by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer at
least once every two years. It is essential to
have such a check carried out each time your
watch is opened, and before any period during
which it is liable to undergo prolonged and/or
regular immersions.
- check when making the purchase that the
bracelet is suitable for the intended use.
- avoid subjecting the watch to excessively
abrupt temperature changes.
- protect the watch from being dropped or from
suffering other accidental impacts, and have
the water resistance checked after any violent
impact.
- avoid the use of the controls, push-piece,
or time-setting crown while under water, or
outside the water, if the watch is not yet dry
after immersion.
- restore the time-setting crown and the pushpiece to their normal positions, or where
applicable, close the compression keys after
every manipulation.

24
- rinse the watch with fresh water after use in
sea water.
You may use your watch during short swims and
when jumping in from the edge of a swimming
pool, but not from a diving board. It must not
be used for scuba diving or for sports involving
significant risk of impact, such as windsurfing
or waterskiing. Also, note that leather straps are
not suited for aquatic activities.
“1000 Hours Control” test
Jaeger-LeCoultre submits all its watches to
its stringent “1000 Hours Control”, a battery
of comprehensive and rigorous internal tests
lasting a full 1000 hours.
The “1000 Hours Control” seal or legend
placed or engraved on the back of your watch
certifies that the timepiece has successfully
passed all the tests relating to regularity of
rate, temperature, atmospheric pressure, and
resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, as
well as water-resistance trials. Thus, your watch
is capable of withstanding the daily stresses

25
and strains that await it. The criteria of the
“1000 Hours Control” programme considerably
exceed the standards of official timing tests,
which deal only with part of the movement.
Jaeger-LeCoultre tests not only the movement
prior to being cased up in the watch, but also
the watch once it has been assembled.
Technical specications
- Manually wound mechanical movement,
Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 381 Dual-Wing
- 21,600 vibrations/hour.
- Power reserve of the regulator: approximately
50 hours.
- Power reserve of the functions: approximately
50 hours.

26
Movement
Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 381.
Important note regarding the power reserves
of the Calibre 381 Dual-Wing.
The Dual-Wing movement of the Duomètre
Quantième Lunaire watch model features two
barrels. The first barrel provides the watch’s
regulator (regulating organ) with 50 hours
of power reserve. The second barrel, which
is independent from the first, provides all the
watch’s functions with 50 hours of power
reserve. The functions, thus, do not cause any
loss of energy or isochronism in the escapement.
The regulator’s power reserve is indicated
by the blue triangle positioned between 7
and 8 o'clock. The functions’ power reserve

27
is indicated by the blue triangle positioned
between 4 and 5 o’clock.
In both cases, the power reserve is at its
maximum when the triangle is positioned
opposite the “50” symbol. As energy is
consumed, the triangle will gradually point
towards the “0” symbol. When the triangle is
opposite the “0” symbol (after approximately
50 hours for both the escapement and the
functions), this indicates that the power reserve
has been exhausted. This is the last chance to
wind up the watch without losing the settings.
Both barrels can be wound using Crown A, in
position 1.
To wind the escapement barrel (and consequently its power reserve), turn the crown
clockwise.
To wind the functions barrel (and consequently
its power reserve), turn the crown anticlockwise.
Important:
Although the two power reserves are
independent, it is vital that both are wound

28
before the timepiece can be used.
If one of the power reserves is depleted, the
movement will stop (no damage will be caused
to the movement). It will thus be necessary to
wind the two power reserves according to the
instructions to restart the calibre.
IDENTIFYING THE SECONDS HANDS
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch
features two seconds displays. The first is the
central hand, while the second is the jumping
seconds hand at 6 o’clock, which gives an
indication to 1/6th of a second.
Use
STARTING THE WATCH
Crown A in position 1.
The watch is started by turning the crown
clockwise to wind the escapement power
reserve and anti-clockwise to wind the
functions barrel. The watch is fully wound when
the two power reserve hands have reached the
“50” symbol. There is no stop to tell you that
the movement has been fully wound, as excess

29
winding is absorbed by a slipping spring. This
prevents damage to the gear-train.
SETTING THE TIME
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch features a unique resetting mechanism for the
seconds and jumping seconds hands, called
the “jumping stop-seconds”. This enables the
two hands to be reset by the crown and for the
time to be set on the watch once an hour signal
sounds to a precision of 1/6th of a second.
Pull Crown A out to position 2. The jumping
seconds hand returns to zero and stops in
preparation for the time-setting operation.
Note that the escapement continues to
function, thanks to its dedicated power reserve.
Its isochronism is undisturbed.
Pull Crown A out to position 3. The central
seconds hand returns to zero in turn and stops
in preparation for the time-setting operation.
Note that the escapement continues to
function thanks to its dedicated power reserve.
Its isochronism is undisturbed.
Release the crown, which returns to position 2.
The two seconds hands are locked at 0. Note

30
that the escapement continues to function
thanks to its dedicated power reserve. Proceed
to set the hours and minutes and, on the hour
signal, push the crown back into position 1. The
watch starts running again.
SETTING THE DATE
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch
displays the date with a hand positioned at 9
o’clock. It is corrected using a push-piece at 10
o’clock, which allows one-day jumps.
123
SETTING THE MOON PHASE AND
AGE OF THE MOON
The Duomètre Quantième Lunaire watch
indicates the moon phases of the northern

31
hemisphere in an aperture, and features a
dual hand display of the moon phases of the
southern hemisphere and the age of the moon.
In order to correct the moon phases, press
the moon phase corrector positioned in the
horn gap at 12 o’clock using the corrector tool
provided.
Each press moves the disc one day forward. In
order to correct the moon phases accurately,
calculate the number of days that have elapsed
since the last full moon using the calendar at the
end of this user manual and, using the corrector
provided, centre the moon in the aperture,
then move the disc forwards according to the
number of days that have elapsed since the last
full moon.
Note: Date correction should not be performed
between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. This is because the
automatic date-change mechanism is already
in action between these times.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Customer Service
A Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece is a high-precision instrument that operates 24 hours a day,
or 8,760 hours a year. Therefore, it is essential to have it serviced once every three years
in order to guarantee its good working order
and its durability. If significant variations occur in the settings, it may be necessary to
have the movement serviced.
It is also necessary to have the water resistance
of the watch checked once every two years, or
prior to any period during which it will be subjected to prolonged and/or regular immersion.
Maintenance and repair work must be entrusted to an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer,
a Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique, or authorised
Jaeger-LeCoultre Service Centre. The list of our
points of sale and service centres is available
on our website: www.jaeger-lecoultre.com. You
will also find this information at the end of this
document, under the heading “Where to entrust my timepiece for maintenance?”
Our authorised Service Centres are staed by

44
watchmakers trained at the Jaeger-LeCoultre
Manufacture, and have the workshops, tools,
and parts required for the repair and maintenance of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches and clocks.
In certain cases, especially for operations requiring special tools and parts, the Service
Centres will send your watch to the JaegerLeCoultre Manufacture in Switzerland to have
the necessary work carried out.
