Chapter 1: Overview

The SkyeTek SkyeReader 300 is a versatile UHF desktop reader. With the SkyeReader
300 and SkyeWare software, you will be able to easily read and encode EPC C1G2 tags
from your desk in very little time.

This equipment complies with FCC radi ati on ex posu re li mits set forth for an uncontroll ed
envi ronmen t. This equi pm en t should be ins tall ed and operated wi th mi nimum dis tan ce

About This Guide

This guide contains al l of th e information you need to get started with y our Sky eTek
SkyeReader 300.

Chapter 1: Overview – Introduces the contents of this guide, describes SkyeTek’s
Advan ced Unive rsal Read er Archi tecture, an d li sts the benefi ts of working with Sky eTe k
readers.

Chapter 2: Setup and Installation – Lists the contents of the SkyeReader 300 kit and
guides you through i nitial setup an d confi gu rati on of your sys tem . Provi des ins tructi on s
for installing the SkyeR eader Demo Applica ti on that y ou will use to evaluate the
SkyeReader 300.

Chapter 3: SkyeWare Capabilities – Walks throug h each of the features of the Sky eWare
application, including read range, anti-collision, tag memory, and SkyeTek Protocol.

Chapter 4: SkyeWare Configuration – Shows the user how to update firmware and
configure dif f eren t types of tags.

Setting Up Your SkyeReader 300

To setup your SkyeReader 300, first you will nee d to install SkyeWare. Insert the CD th at
came with your kit, and an ins tal l ation wizard should run automaticall y. (If it does not,
open the mai n di rectory of the CD and run setup.exe.)

1. After the installation completes, run SkyeWare. This will display the home
screen.

2. Attach your SkyeReader 300 to your computer with the supplied USB Cable.

3. After a few moments your computer and SkyeWare will recognize the
SkyeReader and you are ready to go.

Note that any tags in the field will also be displayed.
Note also that under Readers , the di splay will read SkyeReader 300 USB.

4. To read a tag, place an EP C Class 1 Generation 2 tag directly on the SkyeReader.
The antenna i n th e SkyeReader 300 i s linearly polarized, which means that tag
orien tati on will have a signifi can t im pact on perf orm an ce . Ali gn the tag as shown
in the pictur e people.
