1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this manual is to ease the installation, the operation and the routine maintenance activities of the SC side channel blowers and exhausters.
This manual must be completely read and understood by all operating and servicing personnel before beginning with the installation and the start-up of the machine in order to grant the correct functioning and personnel security.
This manual must be always available at the site of operation of the machine.
WARNING!
These instructions must be strictly observed. Any improper use carried out by unskilled and/or unauthorized personnel could cause serious damages to the machine and serious injuries to people, even death!
The Technical and Service Departments are available for any technical assistance or clarification you may need. Do not hesitate to contact us.
2. REVIEW OF THE SHIPPING DOCUMENTS
When receiving the goods, it is necessary to inspect and check them against the shipping documents. Make sure that no shipping damages are occurred to the equipment during transportation.
Accessories come loose and have to be mounted before start-up.
3. WARRANTY
The goods related with this instruction manual are free from defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty period is: twelve months from the date of their initial use or eighteen months from delivery, whichever expires first (“Warranty Period”).
The warranty covers those parts of the machine that are defective in either materials, construction or workmanship. The warranty does not cover wearing parts (e.g. bearings and lip seals), defects arising from chemical corrosion or galvanic action, from misuse or wrong interpretation of the instructions contained in this manual, or from modifications or repairs not expressly authorized in writing by I.VA.CO. SRL.
Any claims for defects must be made in writing and the purchaser is not entitled to withhold or delay any payments or cancel any contract as a result of those defects.

I.VA.CO. SRL wiII not assume any responsibility under the terms of this warranty for equipment which has not been paid according to the agreed conditions (which are stated in the sales invoice).
Within the warranty period, I.VA.CO. SRL will repair or replace, ex works his factory, those parts which are determined to be defective.
Within the warranty period, defective parts should be returned to I.VA.CO. SRL, carriage paid, and any parts repaired or replaced by I.VA.CO. SRL, will be shipped back to the purchaser, carriage forward. I.VA.CO. SRL wilI not be responsible for any costs arising from the removal and reinstallation of the equipment.
In the unlikely event that the repairs under warranty wiII be carried out in the field, I.VA.CO. SRL will provide the necessary skilled personnel. It is understood that such services will be charged according to the rates in force at the time. In such a case, the purchaser will provide I.VA.CO. SRL with all facilities and assistance necessary for the repair. The purchaser will take all the costs arising from the operations on the field. It is compulsory that all operations on the field are previously agreed in written with I.VA.CO. SRL.
Within the warranty period, for any product repaired or replaced by others than I.VA.CO. SRL or his representative, the warranty wiII become void and unenforceable and I.VA.CO. SRL shall not be liable for any damage, to anything or anybody, that could happen after any unauthorized operation or replacement.
I.VA.CO. SRL shall not be liable for any damage directly or indirectly arising in connection with the machine non-use during the repair under guarantee. I.VA.CO. SRL shall not be liable for any damage directly or indirectly arising in connection with the incorrect use of the machines.
In the unlikely event of a break-down due to the malfunctioning of the machine I.VA.CO. SRL should not be liable for any cost arising from the interruption of the plant process.
4. GENERAL NORMS FOR SAFETY
Before SC blowers and exhausters start-up it is necessary to activate all protection devices for people and things so that any possibility of hazardous risk is avoided during operation but also during routine maintenance of the machine and of its accessories.
SC blowers and exhausters shall be used exclusively for the specified duty and within the limitations stated in the technical-commercial documentation submitted at quotation stage or with the order acknowledgement.
For any use not covered by this manual, it is necessary to contact the Technical Department in order to get confirmation of the suitability to the new operating conditions in terms of performance, safety and duration.
Personnel must always wear suitable safety equipment while working near the side channel machine.
5. RESIDUAL RISKS

Improper use of SC blowers and exhausters can cause serious injuries.
Danger is due to:
- Suction: side channel blowers and exhausters have a very high suction power. Objects, clothing
and hair can be easily sucked into the fan and cause injuries.
- Discharge side: there is a very powerful stream of air from the discharge side. Foreign objects,
which might have been sucked into the fan, can be expelled at high speed and cause injuries.
- Temperature: when the machine operates the temperature of the housing can exceed 100°C. The
machine has to be protected from any contact in order to avoid burns.
- Rotating parts
- Over-pressure and vacuum
- Motor fan
- Defective or missing silencers
In case of failure, check that all protection and safety devices are functioning and activated, disconnect the electric power supply and inform the plat personnel responsible for operation.
6. TRANSPORT
SC blowers and exhausters must be transported by adequate equipment suitable to their weight and packing dimensions and in accordance with the safety standard on force. When transporting, installing and performing maintenance, it is important to grant a safe lifting of the machine; using serviceable lifting slings installed and operated by skillful personnel. Any eye bolt or lifting point designed for single part of the machine shall not be used to lift the complete machine.
7. STORAGE
All SC blowers and exhausters are dispatched with the main connections (like suction and discharge nozzles), closed by plastic plugs or adhesive disks.
Handle the packing with care avoiding shocks.
Avoid to place heavy loads on top of the boxes. If the machine has to be stored for a long period (several months) it is advisable to put it back into its
original packaging, which should be accurately closed and stored in a dry, protected and clean area.

Ambient temperature must be between -15°C and + 40°C. Humidity must not exceed 80%.
Roller motor bearings must be lubricated whenever the machine is stored for more than 2 years under proper conditions and 1 year under adverse conditions (high humidity, salty air or sand, or dust).
Before the new start-up, check the insulation resistance of the motor. With value ≤ 1 kΩ per volt of nominal voltage, the winding has dried out.
8. OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Side channel blowers and exhausters have been developed upon the theory of the regenerative downflow. Both suction and discharge air passages drive to a toroidal chamber, where the radial blade impeller is located, representing the core of the equipment. The fluid is forced inside the toroidal channel by the centrifugal energy given by the impeller and released towards the inner side of the impeller blades where a further acceleration provides the fluid with an helicoidally trajectory with a consequent progressive increase of energy. The pitch of the helicoidally trajectory changes in proportion with pressure variation between suction and discharge. The pitch is able to self-calibrate according to the load acting on the fluid. The gas is free of pollution and keeps a linear flow without pulsations. The absence of vibrations and a low noise level are further advantages and contribute to ease the installation.
9. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
All SC blowers and exhausters are made of aluminum alloy. Since there is no contact between the static and rotating components and bearings are life-pre-lubricated no lubrication is needed.
All SC machines are manufactured according to 2006/42/EC, 2006/95/EC, EN ISO 12100:2010 and EN 60204-1:2006+AC:2010 norms, and to EN-61000-6-4:2007 and EN61000-6-2:2005 compliant to 2004/108/EC norm.
ACCESSORIES - Recommended and supplied on demand.
A complete range of accessories is available for all machines: cartridge type filters for blowers, in-line filters for exhausters, flexible hoses, non-return valves, pressure relief valves for blowers, vacuum relief valves for exhausters, pressure and vacuum gauges, acoustic enclosures.

SC blowers and exhausters are used to suck, condensate and convey air and gas, or non-explosive, non­flammable, non-aggressive, gas mixtures in a not potentially explosive environment, in continuous operation.
SC blowers and exhausters are used in both industrial and standard applications. Is it prohibited to use SC blowers and exhausters:
- In non-industrial installations
- In places in which there are constantly or frequently explosive dust and/or gases
- To suck or convey explosive, inflammable, aggressive, corrosive and/or harmful fluids
- To suck up liquid
- To use the unit under conditions that differ from those indicated on the nameplate
- To operate with the suction and/or delivery openings closed.
It is also prohibited to carry out modifications to the machines.
11. INSTALLATION
SC blowers and exhausters must be installed in an aerated place where the ambient temperature is between -15/+ 40 C°, humidity 80%, at a maximum height of 1000 m above sea level. When installing at different conditions, it is necessary to consider the variation of gas characteristics (pressure and weight) and the downgrade of the motor’s efficiency. Surface treatments on the machine components are needed whenever humidity exceeds 80%.
If installed outdoors must be protected from sunlight and water stagnation by a protective roof.
Machines can be installed in different positions, as explained in the technical sheet. They are stable and do not vibrate, but it’s advisable to fix them through anti-vibration elements.
Make sure to leave at least 50 cm around the machine in order to operate freely.
11.1 NOISE
In standard construction SC blowers and exhausters, are equipped with suction/discharge silencers. In case of suction/discharge into the atmosphere, the noise can be reduced by additional silencer devices.
Do not install the machine on noise-conducting or noise-radiating parts (e.g. tanks, sheet-metal plates).

12. CONNECTIONS
WARNING All connections must be carried out by trained and specialized personnel.
12.1 CONNECTION TO THE PLANT
Connect the machine to the piping system by flexible connectors, avoiding rigid connections that may cause mechanical strengths and cause harmful vibrations. The connection pipes must not overload the silencers.
Only remove the sealing plugs immediately before connection.

Any foreign object, even very small, could enter the machine and cause serious damages, it is therefore advisable to install a filter.
It is necessary to dismount the flanges in order to connect the accessories.
Choose adequate accessories and correct size of pipes in order to avoid performance losses.
- It is not advisable to install pipes with a diameter smaller than the inlet/outlet connections, in order
to avoid obstructions and overloads;
- The manifold and the main piping must be adequately dimensioned when machines are installed in
parallel;
- High radius curved pipes should be preferred to elbows;
- Do not install valves with internal passage lower than port nominal diameter and spring mounted
check valves (performance losses are lower with clapet valves);
- In case of installation for air distribution, low resistance diffusers shall be preferred.
It is advisable to install a safety valve to avoid pressure overloads.
Connect the motor and check the rotating direction before piping connection.
The shaft direction of rotation is marked by an arrow on the fan guard of the electric motor.
The gas delivery direction is marked with arrows on both suction and discharge connections.
Pay attention not to confuse the suction and the discharge piping.
12.2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Electrical connections must be carried out by trained, specialized and authorized electricians only.
Check that the motor nameplate data matches with the local power supply in terms of voltage, frequency, phase and absorbed current. In case of three phase power supply, check that the voltage of all phases is identical.
Connect the motor earthing properly.
Remove the terminal box cover by loosening the fixing screws; connect the wires as indicated in the instructions or on the inside of the cover and then reposition the terminal box cover and fix it by tightening the dedicated screws.

Three-phase motor single phase motor
Three-phase motors have a rated voltage, AT 50Hz, of 230VΔ/400VY, and they can accept a ± 10% line voltage variation, according to IEC 38 specification.
The same line voltage variation is allowed for single-phase motors with a rated voltage of 230V at 50Hz.
According to IEC 34 specification a ± 5% line voltage is allowed for motors with any other rated voltage at 50Hz and for any voltage at 60Hz.
All SC blower and exhauster are equipped with a KLIXON thermal protector. (See attached specification), which must be connected to the main terminal box. Warranty will be void in case of either misconnection or wrong connection of the KLIXON.

The start-up must be in compliance with the indicated purpose of use, with the listed values and after having considered prohibitions, obligations and residual risks.
Make sure that the machine is not connected to the power supply before operating. Make sure that neither the inlet silencer nor the outlet silencer are clogged or dirty.
The electrical motor has been designed to operate at a maximum height of 1000 m above sea level and at an ambient temperature between -15 + 40 °C.
Always check that voltage and frequency on the plate are the same of the plant. Deviations from nominal values allowed is ± 10%.
When operating under different working conditions the motor cannot be run at full load. In this event the start-up may become difficult, particularly on single phase motors.
Connect the motor following the instructions on the terminal box.
Connect the ground cable to the relevant clamp and verify the grade of electrical leakage.
Fuses are not a protection to the motor but only to short-circuits.
In the event of a missing phase, frequent start-ups, excessive voltage variations, clogging of the rotor, the overload/overheat protection is compulsory in order to prevent overload.
Adjust the protective motor according to the nominal value on the nameplate as maximum value.
At machine start-up, it’s necessary:
- To check the operating pressure by a pressure gauge or a vacuum gauge;
- To check the calibration of the safety valve;
- To measure the power absorption and compare it with the value on the nameplate;
- To set the thermal motor protection accordingly.
After one hour, check that the absorbed power doesn’t exceed the accepted values.
SC blowers and exhausters are designed for continuous operation. In case of many starts (6 times per hour with regular stop) or inlet gas or ambient temperatures increasing, the max temperature of the motor winding can be exceeded. Stabilization valves with neutral phase should be used only under I.VA.CO. SRL advice.
13.1 ADJUSTMENT SC blowers and exhausters are self-adjusting on the differential pressure value generated by the working
conditions.
Piping losses are crucial to the differential pressure and should not be underestimated.
To decrease the flow rate do not throttle the suction or discharge but install a relief valve.

14 . MAINTENANCE
Usually SC blowers and exhausters do not require maintenance. Wearing parts service life (bearings and filters) depends on operating conditions. All machines have pre-lubricated bearing with a minimum service life of 12.000 hours.
Nevertheless, it is necessary that qualified personnel periodically check the machine in order to avoid possible failures.
CAUTION All maintenance activities must be carried out by authorized and specialized personnel wearing personal
safety equipment.
During usual operation (fluid inlet and ambient temperatures not exceeding 40°C, differential pressure as per nameplate data), the following routine maintenance activities have to be foreseen.
14.1 CLEANING
Make sure that the machine is shut down and locked against inadvertent start-up.
Clean the external part of the machine with compressed air. Deposit of dust on external blower surface avoid an adequate thermal exchange and can cause an overheating of the interior.
Clean the ventilation grid of the motor fan cover. Dirt on motor fan cover reduces the air flow and causes motor overheating.
Every 10/15 days during operation it is advisable to clean the filter cartridge. If the machine operate in a high dusty environment it is necessary to replace it frequently. A dirt cartridge increases the pressure differential, the absorbed power and the operating temperature.
If the machine doesn’t produce any differential pressure, or too low pressure, or gas flow decreases, it is necessary to clean the inside of the machine.
Dirt inside the machines can cause:
- Change of running performances
- Cloging due to clearance
- Rotor displacement
- Excessive vibrations
If it is necessary to clean the machine inside, follow the instructions here below:
- Loosen the screws (13) and remove washers (14) and o-rings (15)
- Loosen the screw (21) and remove the base (04)

- Remove the cover (02) hitting with a plastic mallet and use levers, if necessary.
- Remove the screw (06), the washers (07 and 08) and slide the ball bearing (09), if necessary using
an extractor.
- Remove the impeller (03) if necessary using release pincers.
For two stage machines after having removed the first impeller, remove the intermediate case (1.1) and the second impeller (03).
For machines from 601 be careful not to lose the spacers (33) necessary to size axial clearance of the machine.
Clean with compressed air and smooth with sandpaper if necessary.
Reassemble the machine, reversing the disassembly procedures.
14.1.1 SILENCER ELEMENTS REPLACEMENT
When the machine generates an excessive noise, it is necessary to replace the silencer elements, following the instructions here below:
- Remove the plastic covers (27)
- Unscrew the screws (45) holding the flange
- Unscrew the tie rod (26), remove the silencer, paying attention not to lose the flat gasket (22).
- Replace the net silencer (23) and the silencer insert (24) Reassemble the machine, reversing the disassembly procedures.
14.2 SEALING RINGS AND BEARINGS REPLACEMENT
The sealing rings lose the sealing capacity when exceeding their lifetime (max 2 years), thus allowing fluid losses. At that extend, sealing rings must be replaced.
Early wearing of sealing rings may be due to:
- Handling fluid polluted
- Running conditions over the limits of the nameplate causing temperature increase and lubrication
grease damage.
Malfunctioning occurs when the bearings exceed their lifetime (max 2 years) causing excessive noise. At that extend, bearings must be replaced.
Early wearing of bearings may be due to:
- Mechanical shocks during running or stop that can damage the ball rolling track.
- Running conditions over the limit of the nameplate causing temperature increase lubrication
grease damage.
15. OPERATING PROBLEMS AND TROUBLE SHOOTING

All actions carried out in order to recover from the malfunctioning problems reported in the next table (TAB. 2) must be performed in full safety conditions and, depending on the type of action required, in accordance with the procedures described in the dedicated section of this manual.

When a relatively long shut down period is foreseen (more than 2 months), or whenever required, it is necessary to: disconnect the machine from power supply, close suction and discharge line, release pressure, remove pipes and close inlet and outlet side with sealing plugs.

17. PUMP SCRAP AND DISPOSAL
When scrapping and tearing down the pump, it is necessary to apply the specific disposal procedures depending on the material of each part of the machine. It is mandatory that the machines internals are cleaned and drained from any hazardous and
polluting fluid which can be dangerous to people, to things and to the environment. As already stated in other sections of this manual, the handling and disposal of fluids as well as parts or any other item shall be performed in compliance with the local law and relevant standards on force.
18. REPAIR
Due to the accuracy required in performing disassembly and assembly procedures of SC
blowers and exhausters, they must be carried out only by trained and skilled personnel.
If necessary, the machine can be returned back to I.VA.CO. SRL for repair (recommended
action).
19. SPARE PARTS
To order spare parts necessary to repair, the following information are mandatory:
- Part description
- Item number
- Blower or exhauster model
- Lotto number
The first two data can be found on the section drawing attached to this manual and the others on the machine identification nameplate.
Original spare parts kits are available for standard construction machines.
Some items are buy out products and can be purchased either from original manufacturers or their distribution network.
