iTwin SecureBox Quick Start Manual

iTwin SecureBox Quick Start Guide
This Quick Start Guide will show you how to:
1. Install iTwin and Associate your iTwin device with your DropboxTM account
2. Secure your files using iTwin SecureBox
BEFORE YOU START:
iTwin SecureBox works as an add-on to the DropboxTM desktop application. Install DropboxTM on your Mac or PC and login to your account before you use iTwin SecureBox. You may download the DropboxTM desktop application from
www.dropbox.com.
Supported Operating Systems for iTwin SecureBox: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, OS X Snow Leopard, OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion.
ABOUT YOUR DEVICE:
Your iTwin device has two identical halves. Each half is a SecureBox key. The two SecureBox keys can be connected together via their special connector to form a
pair
, as
shown.
1 Install iTwin and Associate your iTwin device with your Dropbox
TM
account
1. Join together the two halves of your iTwin device, to form a pair, and then insert the pair into a USB port on your Mac or PC on which your DropboxTM account is in use.
On Windows, installation will start automatically if you insert iTwin into your computer. If the installation does not start, open “Computer” and you will see iTwin mounted as a CD-ROM device. Run “iTwin.exe”.
On Mac, insert the iTwin and open the Finder, in “Devices”, click the “iTwin” CD-ROM device and click on “LaunchiTwinMac” to begin installation.
For more detailed instructions on installing iTwin on your PC or Mac, please refer to the iTwin User Manual. It also has more detailed instructions on iTwin SecureBox and iTwin Remote File Access.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to initialize your iTwin device and associate it with your DropboxTM account.
During installation, you will also be able to name your iTwin device, for easier identification.
You will also have the option to set an iTwin password, for an additional level of security.
You will also have the option to obtain a disable code, which you can use in the future to
disable your iTwin device if either or both halves are lost.
2 Secure your files using iTwin SecureBox
Insert your SecureBox key into a computer on which your DropboxTM account is in use. An iTwin SecureBox folder will pop up. Note the
SecureBox icon in the bottom-right.
1. Drag or copy files/folders into the iTwin SecureBox folder.
These will be auto-encrypted.
The encrypted version will be auto-added to the Dropbox
TM
folder, in a folder named ‘iTwin SecureBox - <your device name>’, which was created during the association of iTwin with your DropboxTM account. All the filenames in that folder will be obfuscated.
You can see the contents of an iTwin SecureBox folder below. All files have a file overlay
with a lock symbol . This indicates that the file is encrypted and intact. Files can be edited, deleted and renamed in this folder.
2. DropboxTM will, as usual, sync the newly added encrypted files to your account’s cloud storage.
3. The encrypted files will also, as usual, sync downwards to all other Mac or PC clients using your DropboxTM account.
After the installation process, unplug the paired iTwin device and separate the two halves. These two halves will now act as your SecureBox keys. We suggest keeping one key in a safe place (refer to Notes below) and carrying just one key with you.
3 Access your secured files
1. To access your SecureBox files, insert your SecureBox key into a computer on which your DropboxTM account is in use.
2. If iTwin is not installed on the computer, follow the on-screen instructions to install it. After installation - or if iTwin was already installed, then upon plugging in the SecureBox key - the iTwin SecureBox folder will open and you will see the decrypted files.
3. When you unplug the SecureBox key, the SecureBox folder will close and only the encrypted files will remain in your Dropbox
TM
folder. No decrypted copies will remain on
your Mac or PC, after the SecureBox key has been unplugged.
Sometimes you will see that a file’s overlay is a red cross
instead of the black lock . The Red Cross indicates that either DropboxTM has not finished syncing that file completely or that the file was not encrypted using iTwin SecureBox.
If the latter case, it could be that the file was added directly to the ‘iTwin SecureBox - <your device name>’ folder (within your DropboxTM folder) instead of being added through the iTwin SecureBox folder (this is recommended against – refer Note 3 below). This means the file was not encrypted using an iTwin and so, it cannot be decrypted or read or deleted using iTwin. This causes the symbol.
If the ‘iTwin SecureBox - <your device name>’ folder was not directly manipulated, then a red cross over a file indicates that the file is busy being synchronized. Simply wait until DropboxTM completes the file sync and when the file is synced, the file overlay will be a
black lock .
4. If you want, you can copy a file from the iTwin SecureBox folder to your computer by dragging and dropping it into a location of your choice. iTwin will decrypt the file using the key stored in your device before copying it on to your computer. Any file in iTwin
SecureBox folder can also be directly edited, deleted, renamed, opened and saved using the appropriate application for the file.
NOTES:
1. The full paired device is intended to be plugged in
only
to do the association, during which the two halves generate and share crypto information, making them a “paired” set of keys. After this initial operation has been performed, the device should be unplugged and the two halves (aka keys) separated.
2. We strongly suggest keeping one of the SecureBox keys in a safe place, as a backup key. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF BOTH KEYS ARE LOST, THERE IS NO WAY TO RECOVER YOUR SECUREBOX DATA.
3. iTwin SecureBox creates a special folder in your Dropbox
TM
folder, to store the encrypted data. If you look in your DropboxTM folder via a browser or the DropboxTM desktop application, you will see the encrypted files/folders, with obfuscated names, within a folder named ‘iTwin SecureBox - <your device name>’. You should never modify, delete or in any way manipulate the folders/files within this folder. The contents of this folder are to be managed exclusively via the iTwin SecureBox folder (only visible when a SecureBox key is plugged in). Any unauthorized modifications to this folder via a browser or the DropboxTM desktop application will be detected and flagged.
4. After installation, to open your iTwin SecureBox folder at any time, look for the iTwin icon that will open up the iTwin Menu. The iTwin icon is located in the taskbar notification area for Windows and on the Menu Bar for Mac.
